Suran mentioned that when she was having hard times Yoongi reached out and helped her to get through depression. She said working with him (he was the producer of her song "Wine") gave her motivation to continue making music and she received a lot of strength and energy

Yoongi said “If you have a dream chase it, if you don’t it’s okay just live the rest of the year happily” -new year message (for 2018?) a lot of people ask you what your dreams are and they pressure you to go to university and get a job when a lot of us don’t kbow what we want to do in life. It’s depressing when you don’t know what to do with life, he’s message is that “its okay, just live your life happily while figuring it out”

I really, really feel "I live because I can't die". There have been so many times when I looked into that abyss and just... couldn't follow through. Too broken to live, too scared to die. There are so many days where it feels like I'm just waiting for the numbers of my days to count down. And on so many of those days, I put BTS on and they really keep me going. On a (slightly) brighter note, try some hot water with lemon juice and honey for your throat! That stuff does wonders, hope you feel better soon

Such a beautiful song, really love it. The version with Suran is good, it really is, but the one with Jin & JK? It sounds so perfect! And yes, part of it is because Yoongi sing it with his members but... In my opinion, it feels like Jin and JK add more emotion in their parts, the adlibs are gorgeous, and the difference with the instrumental adds so much rawness and deepness to the feel of the song. This version hits differently. First version speaks to your heart, the second one touch your soul...

you are right they flipped sides in the 2nd chorus so Jin was doing the run. In BTS I think Jin and JK have collaborated the most and their voices really blend well together. I love it and when they are harmonizing with each other. it just really feels different when these two are harmonizing. it just always takes me away to another place, especially in this song. also, I really like your explanation. I feel like I understand a song much better after your reaction to it.

Suran is a soloist (she was on an idol girl group for a little while). She doesn't have a large discography but she's got collabs with several rappers (SUGA produced a song for her called Wine, and she also have a song with ZICO) and quite a few OST songs for kdramas. You should check Wine!

The festa version with jin and jk, is mixed with first love, so it feels different and yoongi said that he took the time to fix some mistakes in writing. However! Yoongi contacted suran when she was going through some really hard times mentally, and they connected through this feeling, so rather than saying one is better than the other, i like to think of them as two songs because the feeling i get from each are different in nuance. I love both. Also like to point out that this Is the song for BTS's introvert line. 😌

Like you I had a bad time in my life when I had leukaemia, and my kids were still young. People would ask me how I felt, but I soon realised they didn't want to hear my honest answer. So I learnt to say I was doing OK, and kept it sll to myself. Exhaustion, fear, pain, despair, anxiety about what would become of my kids if I died. I kept it all to myself. That is why I feel so close to Suga who suffered for such a long time in pain and exhaustion.

So Far Away and First Love (Suga’s solo) are connected. So Far Away ends by repeating “First Love” and at the end of the concert performance for First Love, the instrumental from So Far Away plays. You can hear it in your review of the performance and you mentioned the instrumental at the end was great and should be in the studio version, that was So Far Away! I get wrecked every time I hear it when I watch his performance of First Love💜

This is one of the first songs I checked out when I first discovered BTS, I think it was the 2nd day, and I had loved this song since and it's in my bed time playlist. Jin and Jk's voices are so soothing. I also listened to the Suran version back then, but I never even finished the song.

From my interpretation of why Suga added the "first love" lyrics in the JK+Jin version is because Suga's first love, which is the Piano/music, that has saved him from his depression (which is also why Suga said the lyrics for this version is more accurate and the "don't fall away" part as well)... Highly recommend you to react to his "First Love" song in which he cried while recording as he talks about his love for the piano

Suran’s voice went perfect with the song. I’ll always prefer the boys version though. Although it’s a bit unfair to compare because the boys were allowed to do a lot more ad libs which enhanced the song 10000% The First Love part was a reference to Suga’s solo First Love. I love how honest the song is, but I love more his wish in the chorus that keeps repeating until the end. It’s a wish for himself and the listener. May everything work out in the end. Love it.

I've listened to this song hundred times already but for some reason while watching you dive into the lyrics, it pierced my heart even more and got me emotional. God Yoongi is such a genius, him and RM have different styles of getting into your feels but Yoongi's is more on the aggressive yet comforting side. It's like he's slapping you hard with reality and then he'll embrace you with his words of encouragement. Oh and fun fact, the last part where JK was singing "First Love"....it was like a teaser or hint to Yoongi's first solo song in their WINGS album as BTS with the same title. This is one of my favourite songs from Yoongi's first mixtape. Both versions of it. I never noticed until you pointed out the intros are different, but the Jin/JK version has the melody of so far away layered over the beat from first love. It makes sense since they reference it at the end (that change is one of my favourite things of the Jin/JK version over the Suran version).

When you said some times it feels like you almost want some one who is doing a little worse than you as a friend, then you said you should cut that out. I am glad you did not cut that out because that is honest and you are not the only one who thinks that way some times. I usually read the lyrics of the songs when I first listen to them but for some reason I didn’t until a few months after first listening to this song. I guess that was sort of fate because I did end up coming across a lyric video of this song when I needed it most. Going through a bout of depression and the lyrics resonated with me so much. Was definitely at a point where I didn’t think anyone understood. Seeing something physically written out that was describing almost word for word what I was feeling kind of helped pull me back out of the hole I was falling into, even if just a little bit.

Both versions are great but I prefer the one with Suran in it. Maybe because I heard it first and got immediately attached to it or because of contrast between make and female energies/ voices that suits the song really well. Jungkook’s voice is everything to me ( my favourite vocalist in the whole world next to Dimash) and he was simply exquisite on this track, breathtakingly beautiful and soothingly gentle. Jin’s silver clear voice was absolutely phenomenal too and I am not surprised one bit the two were selected to cover the song with Suga. When Jin and Jungkook voices start to blend it sounds like heavens opening and calling you home. Perfection!! I think though that Suran version is better in my books because of its instrumental arrangement and those incredibly great electric guitars in it. It floods you with emotions but also hope and energy that in the end all will be ok. So far away is everything to me. Everything. No song has ever effected me on such a deep personal level.It has become my personal prayer when everything is dark, hopeless and I feel like I am drowning. 💜

I may be biased, too but I also like the boys version a little more, too. To be honest, I cried a little when I first this song, I also feel for Yoongi and relate to what he's saying. I'm so glad you didn't cut that bit about half-wanting someone else to be left behind with you or even behind you. I've felt that, too. 11:09 I think most people if not everyone feels that way at times. I'm out of high school and I do feel like that most of the time. But there is a song called Awake about accepting your fate and your pace. It reminds me that I have my own pace and my path of life is different from everyone. In Awake Jin talks about how he might not be as good as the other members but he accepts that his pace is his own and he will reach his end at his own speed and strength. This thought just keeps me going and not get stressed. (Please ignore my grammar mistakes if there are any as English is not my native language).💜

I didn't search deep into the comments to see with anybody else interprets the part he says "Dream" 2:14 to 2:54 in a more critical tone but, from the start, this part never felt like August D's words but his parents/society's instead. Like... whatever you do, you have to dream, you have to accomplish something and no matter how much you suffer, in the end, it'll be worthy. I literally imagine his mother (although I neither know her or know if she was mean with him) saying this stuff pressuring him to be successful and for me he's just repeating it that convincingly because he probably believed her for most part of his life. Honestly, this is even more painful to listen alongside with "I only live because I can't die"

As a little background of when this song was performed. It was during the 2017 Wing Tour The Final, after Suga finished singing his solo, First Love. The melody melded into the music for So Far Away and Jin and Jk appeared from understage and sang this with Suga. So that's why you noticed the arrangement was different right off the bat. I understood your comment about how Jin and Jk add a little more depth to this song, but you couldn't really put words to it. I think because parts of the song talk about how he didn't feel like he could talk to friends about his depression, seeing his bandmates there singing alongside him kinda adds a symbolic view of them being there for him through this. (But yes hearing Jin and Jk as ARMY is also a tad more exciting haha)

From what I've read and remember that the Yoongi, Jungkook & Jin version was part of the 2017 Festa. Yoongi also corrected a lyric from the Suran version, 'don't far away' was suppose to be 'don't fall away', it was included in the 2nd version. The 2nd version of the song was closer to the style he had in mind originally.

"First love" makes reference to Suga's song "First love" in the Wings album. His first love was his piano and his dream had always been music although for some time in his life he couldn't freely pursue it because he was pushed to focus on his studies.To cut a long story short, this combined with the shoulder injury he had before he debuted probably set the grounds for his depression and gave birth to these songs. If you read a bit about his life, you will be able to understand more about his songs. Thanks for the reaction. I totally agree with you and personally enjoy more the second version with JK and Jin.
