I'm so glad you enjoyed it. 💜💜 It is a very powerful story and the MV is a work of art. I liked what you were talking about hope. When you think about, a lot of the BU storyline is about hope really. If you ever get to read the webtoon and The Notes (and then all the MVs will make sense. I promise you), you'll see. There's a line from The Notes, when they are talking about their dreams (and most of them say they don't have any), and they look up the word "dream" in the dictionary, and then Yoongi says "That's weird. How can something that you want to achieve most in your life and something that is unlikely to come true both be called a dream?". Your talking about hope reminded me of that quote. 💜☂️

The clock in the laundry room is also stopped at the time the ferry began sinking. There was a lot of media black out and anyone who talked about it was black balled. Journalists were fired and news stations deterred. Someone even volunteered in the search and rescue and brought an expensive equipment for the search and was turned away. So even musicians had to be careful with what they said. BTS 100% made this for those who endured the tragedy, they just found a creative way to tell it. Winter = grief Spring = moving away from grief, I think it is a very relatable song for anyone to hear. Truly the Queen of their discography 💜

RM wrote the song while walking in a park. He was thinking of Suga and his friends. You were probably told to watch this as a part of the storyline and the explained only gave you the Sewol Ferry theories. I want to explain to you the parts that pertain to the story because even though it's not officially BU the guys have mentioned that there are storyline elements in it. Remember the overarching theme of the storyline is growing up: leaving childhood for the uncertainty of adulthood. Also that the guys are happiest when together. Snowpiercer is also about stagnation and how you have to keep moving forward in life. There were many who were fine staying in the back of the train but the protag knew for any change to happen they must leave what they know for a world of unknowns. Like leaving the comfort of childhood for the world of grownups. Omelas: The boy in this instance is Jin. Remember he is forever apart from them. He suffers trying to fix everyone's life. He is at the bottom of the stairs while the guys run from him and he is viewing them like always thru his "camera" (his hands making the camera shape). The cake throwing scene is like a passage in The Notes (the album notes that gave further insight into the story). They were having a party, happy to be together but eventually something happens and they split apart. Jungkook is running, looking for everyone. Once he finds them he is happy and they are together running towards something now. What they come to is the train with the versions of themselves now heading towards adulthood. Finally not riding in a loop, allowed to finally press forward (like snowpiercer). The clothing mound they sit on represents all the clothes and things they are going to have to leave behind when they finally embrace adulthood. There are probably some I'm forgetting but I finished the storyline so long ago not every thing remains in my head. Oh aspects of the song: when we saw JHope on the train it was Jin singing then Jimin. Live versions of this song give that part to Hobi, along with RM's sorta vocal part in the beginning. Hobi did a lot of background vocals for this song so for lives they gave him parts from the others so on stage he has parts.

If you ever want to know more about the sewol ferry tragedy there's this video on youtube that I thought was good, but be prepared to cry: "What Went Wrong in the South Korean Ferry Disaster?" by The New Yorker. You will get so angry with how the government dealt with the situation, how they lied and faked everything, and how it led to the president being impeached. You just feel so bad for the families. I remember a part where they mentioned that some of the kids could have been surviving in the air pockets of the sinking ship, but no one was doing anything to save them. And the civilian divers who tried to help were so traumatized by the experience. It's all so tragic. The youtube channel, Italian Army, also had a good video that goes deeper into the symbols spread throughout the music video: "What you STILL DON'T KNOW about BTS SPRING DAY MV".
@shiene.4 жыл бұрын
The reason why they made it look like a fun scene and they made the whole mv not obvious is because at that time they release the song and mv.. It is not allowed or it is illegal to have songs about sewol ferry tragedy and make songs that criticizes the government in korea because if so.. The artists who made songs like that will be banned. But bighit and bts did something amazing. They made an mv and song that criticize the goverment without the goverment noticing it. It really shows that bts always ready to help even when they know they will get banned. Fun fact: Bighit once stated that bts themselves said that they want to donate $85,000 to those victim's families silently.
@lux32264 жыл бұрын
It wasn't that it wasn't allowed, and it wasn't illegal. The government (at the time - the Korean president ended up getting impeached) was black listing any artists who spoke out on the tragedy. And it wasn't that BTS somehow did something that the rest of Korea and the world noticed, but somehow, the government didn't have a clue - it was because there were no direct references other than some POSSIBLE symbols. By that time, BTS had enough clout, and the president was under enough backlash, for anyone in the government to do anything about it - and if they had, it would only have made things that much worse. And it wouldn't have been a silent donation, if BigHit made an announcement about it. Not to downplay the song, music video, or the empathy and generosity of BTS and BigHit - but I don't think it's necessary to stretch the truth when praising our boys. The truth of them is just as beautiful, if not more so.

The Sewol disaster is truly heartbreaking. There are actually voice recordings of students calling their parents in panic and you can hear the crew on speakers in the background telling them to go back to their cabins and not evacuate. Meanwhile the captain and many crew steadily snuck off the ship. The few passengers who survived were actually rescued by commercial fishing boats because the crew hadn’t even alerted the coast guard that the ship was capsizing until they were already away from the scene on the life boats! It’s like a modern day titanic, where the lower classes are locked below while the upper classes are up top getting the life boats. The captain and many crew did eventually get convicted.

This video is so depressing in so many ways. You can attribute it specifically to losing someone in your life, whether too early or when it's simply their time, and you can also take it wholeheartedly as specifically for the Sewol Ferry issue. For me specifically, I lost my best friend in a horrible car accident (on 8/31 it will have been 3 years) and every time I listen to this song, especially Suga's part where he says pretty much "I hate you because you're gone, but I miss you so, so, SO much".

RM wrote Spring Day while sitting in a park one day. He was reminiscing about old friends, specifically, a painful experience he and Suga had in their past. He wrote the song as a way to help listeners cope with the pain of having lost loved ones, and a reminder that despite the darkness, light will one day come again, winter will eventually turn to spring, and happiness will once again be a part of your life. All it takes is time, and the determination and faith to wait for it to happen. The music video pays homage to Korea's Sewol Ferry tragedy, which had happened a few years prior to this music video, as it was still a very current pain for all Koreans, so it became a balm to help ease that pain. It is a very special song in Korea to Koreans, which explains why it stays at the top of Korea's music rankings, as it is a very beautiful song, but the "meaning" of it is simply what I said previously, to speak of lost loved ones, and the hope for joy to return. At the risk of sounding waspish - why do people immediately think "omg, suicide!" when they see a person put their ear to train rails? Maybe because I'm a bit older than most ARMY, but I remember that people used to put their ear to train rails to feel the vibrations of the rails and hear if there is a train rumbling on its way on that line (a bit like the 2 paper cups on a string concept - amplifies sound and carries it along the line). I'm happy this is no longer a thing, as it was dangerous, but it was never about suicide. And while suicide makes the news article of the survivor that much more impactful, that wasn't the intention when Tae put his ear to the rail. JUST as poignant would have been to think he did it because he wanted to hear the train of those who'd been lost, but knowing he'd never hear it again.

Reading is a good way to teach someone indirectly, it's even better than the kind of teaching that mostly occurs in school because it's a journey where you asks yourself the questions and see the answers for yourself, there's no one telling them to you (at least good writers do that, and there's a lot of good writers out there). I don't know how old your son is, but you could even read the books you find appropriate to him, and make that moment a time you spend together reading and asking yourselves questions about it. When I was very young, my dad did that with me and that's how I became to love books before I learned to read. My dad isn't into reading at all though, he did that because he didn't want my first experience with books to be the one schools offer and he loved reading them to me. Thanks to him I discovered a world that has given me so many priceless things, it opened me as a person. This tragedy was really a tragedy... but one that could have been avoided so easily... I saw a documentary about it and... oh boy, was it infuriating to see the incompetence of everyone involved. If the students had jumped out of that ferry, they would be alive, but instead they were told to wait and they did, because you believe that the person in charge has your best interest in mind. Some even texted with their parents, and the parents themselves told them to listen to their teachers and well, that's such a heartbreaking burden to have with you for the rest of your life. It's not the parents' fault, of course, but the mother that said "If only I had told her another thing" in the documentary broke my heart. Also, most of the messages the students sent their parents were saying "I'm afraid" and "I miss you", the whole thing is heartbreaking.

They never really said anything about the tragedy through this mv but the theory were really almost on point with all of the msgs that they showed us in the song. They also quietly donated to the survivors of the tragedy. They have always been the ones to stand up for the youths of today and ppl have been respecting them slowly as artists (not idols) because of the positive messages that they have always given to us. The captain of the ship actually committed suicide after the tragedy because he felt too guilty and the rest went to jail.

If you are not to sensitive, there are actually two series , Japanese :Alice in borderland and korean Sweet home, action and fantastic series but the scenarist have made an amazing job about relationship and how deal between survival and helping others. It’s the best part of these series for me, better than the effect, the events etc...and If I have one drama to recommend about human relation , it’s : it’s okay to not be okay. Four exemple of relation, the romance, the brotherhood, the friendship and the manipulation one in a very particular way for all these relations. . Don’t worry, I have to pause too to read the explanation. That’s to fast to process. 😁

Although the gist of the story has been mentioned here, the effect of feeling the emotions while reading is so much more powerful. Especially, you mentioned you wanted to touch on this subject with your child. The book leaves you thinking. This song amazes me with the layers of storytelling. There is the sewol tragedy, the snowpiercer movie references, the Omelas. But the most powerful factor is the message of Hope.

I think people tend to forget that Spring Day was never technically confirmed to be about the Sewol tragedy, though it is true that many people interpreted it that way! There are definitely a ton of things that point to it as that “explained” video showed, as well as BTS and BH privately donating towards the tragedy. Yoongi’s verse, however, was about his own personal story with someone he used to be friends with (see: the same lines used in his D-2 track “Dear My Friend”), and Namjoon has said that the song in general is about missing friends and comforting people. He wrote most of it while at a park watching leaves fall and later changed “leaves” to “snowflakes” falling in the lyrics. I personally think it’s really cool that BTS can bring so many different meanings together for a single song, allowing even more people to feel a connection with it. Glad you enjoyed it even if it wouldn’t normally be your cup of tea!

Like any great art it can be done about a personal feeling of the artist but be speaking to people for their own feelings. That is why I like that BTS don't give explanation.

I do love this song, i perfer Italianarmy's explanation more its more extensive but i can understand why its not as popular since its in Italian with English subs. She brings up alot more facts and links and explain more i find this explanation video is more emotional (and Italianarmy picks up on more details like the clock in the laundrymat showing the time the ship went down). for those interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKO3ZZSVe9xppqc (that fairy tale btw "Little Match girl" is one sad sad story... about a girl seeing her dead loved ones each time she strikes a match and at the end of the night they find her dead with a smile on her face... old fairy tales were not the disney kind :P )

So many connect this song mv to the ferry tragedy.. but for me its related to their HYYH BU storyline. its about how they missed each other when they being apart especially after jhope left the village. if u read the notes u can really relate to it. anyway thank u so much for this reaction video. Definitely watch the live version! Preferably the class of 2020 performance from this year ♡ Also highly recommend Fools- Jungkook and RM. RM sings throughout the song and its sooooo good
@blaublaubeere4 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly the song itself doesn't refer to the tragedy, but RM wrote it about his friends (Yoongi in particular, I feel like he mentioned), but seeing it with the MV kinda changes the meaning more towards the tragedy - at least all the Koreans I've seen reacting to it/telling about it immediately saw the connection between them. Also yeah there's already a comment about the storyline elements in this, so Im not gonna dive into that. But it is one of my favourites of their MV's and songs regardless, and people can relate to it in many different ways which is just beautiful. I personally I'm not religious at all, but what you said about hope and faith was something I feel like I can understand too

6:04 is Jin singing. J-hope had no lines (major lines like the others) instead he did the backing track/backing vocals. In the live performances however, he sings RMs part (2:20 - 2:46) then RM does the rapping.

RM wrote this when he was thinking of the friends who he no longer speaks to or can get together with. The fact it was adopted for the Sewol Ferry tragedy is similar to when Enya's "Only TIme" was adopted by the U.S after the Twin Towers were hit. The song though written about something personal is used as the soundtrack for something everyone is feeling on a national level.
@fruehlingsbotin4 жыл бұрын
I believe this was only his official explanation. It's pretty clear it was about the tragedy. But they weren't allowed to make songs explicitly about the tragedy and had to hide what it was about.
@erinnickerson96044 жыл бұрын
@@fruehlingsbotin I believe the actual song is about missing friends, whether they are no longer in your life or they had passed away, and the mv was done in a way that could address the tragedy and/or suicide, both of which are topics that are somewhat taboo in Korea. I've seen explanation theories of this song regarding both topics.

How to not lose all your personal time? Maybe line up some related videos (I'd suggest sticking to one artist each time) so maybe MV, (DKDKTV/xCeleste) Explain Vid, Dance Practice, Live/Comeback/Award Performance and do it as a live stream ... do it as is, raw and cut our the editing time factor .... I'd be careful around the live aspects (as you know) but there are ways to group songs together logically. I don't know how much time you spend editing but this might help? re how you teach your children to not focus on their needs? wow it's so hard ... my main teaching points with mine is .. loving themselves (given), always taking responsibility for their actions even if it means they get in trouble and finally, treating others as they want to be treated so I guess this means that their happiness and successes can not and should not ever ever be at the expense of others. Mine are 8 & 10 so conversations are still fairly tame but I stick to the same points. It's hard teaching them resilience and responsibility so young and it's been hit and miss over the years but eventually I hope they will be self reflecting and aware adults who consider the needs of the many over their personal needs. COVID19 has actually been a huge teaching point for the last part in the family. Considering how our actions impact others etc. Thank you for the video, it is emotional to understand what it all means and it's why Spring Day is our Queen and has been on Melon charts since release. There is a live performance at an awards show that shows other idols reacting to the song .. it is such a powerful emotive song (I can't recall which one though). Take care.
