The BTS narrative begins from their first debut songs and continues to this new album coming out. They have been telling the same story since the beginning but the narrative evolves as they do. Think of it like a book series or TV series over many seasons. Sure you can appreciate each individual song and performance as you do so well but if you want to know the full “story”, you got to “read the whole book” from cover to cover. Still one of the best reactors out there!

I've noticed how people have a certain prejudice with metal music fans. Masculine, tattooed... a tough guy. Such a misconception. I have lot of friends amongst metal musicians AND fans and honestly many of them are fluffy af themselves! Real teddy bears. So it's not a type of people but just regular people who love listening metal music. Just like people who like pop music don't all look like Britney Spears or Justin Bieber. I wish more people would understand that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking or anything. Just saying 😉

Persona, who am I. Do I deserve the praise I get even though I feel I wear a mask? Shadow, I am you, sometimes this fact will clash and you will be afraid. Your strength and weakness is all one. Ego, then I’ll trust myself. These choices all led me here and I’m okay with that.

I got serious vibes from Daydream. There he talks about how he daydreams of a normal life, were he can just behave like a normal dude. And in this song, when he talks about the one truth: time moving forward, no maybes or what ifs... it brought me to that, then he actually mentions a life where he isn't J-hope and how he saw it at the time as a life full of regret 'till he died with his dance chasing impossible dreams that turn to ghosts, because they haunt him. I also love the little touches of the video, like him driving a car in the opposite way of "THE WAY", which enforces the meaning of the song "Trust yourself and your choices" instead of following what everyone says is "THE WAY". The whole song is just SO Hobi, like I can't imagine anyone else doing this song, it has Hobi's energy all over it.

It's summer in Jhope's kingdom: South America ^·^ Brazilian army started carnaval (carnival) 2~3 weeks early after Ego released.

So basically, the song represents the integration of the Persona (part of our consciousness; what we want the world to see, as discussed through RM's intro) and the Shadow (part of our unconscious; our deepest, darkest fears, as presented through Suga's interlude) within one being in order to stabilize the Ego (one's personal identity, the integration of every little piece that makes us, us. Ego's origin in Latin translates to "I"/"me".) That is why Outro: Ego is so hopeful and celebratory. Because the process of individuation (the achievement of self-actualization through a process of integrating the conscious and the unconscious) has been created within the self. There is no more over-identification with the Persona/"the idol mask"(like in RM's intro Persona where the persona had literally become a overwhelming being, towering over RM) and the shadows which have been let free after the self created an imbalance between different sides of one's inner world, are so longer drowning out the self (as seen in Suga's interlude). By the Shadow addressing the self at the end of Interlude: Shadow and letting the self know that the individual must stop repelling the dark part of himself, the change for the better started. Outro: Ego represents the restored balance between the Persona and the Shadow, the acceptance of everything we experience and feel as a part of ourselves, making up the constellation of our inner world, our own individual Mikrokosmos.

The intro is the intro from their debut. The 2kool4skool album. Besides the Carl Jung symbolism, there are a bunch of hints to the BU storyline. For instance, his ‘narcolepsy’ and ending up in the hospital is exactly from the storyline. There’s a lot of parallels with his Wings short film. Indeed the fake world he’s walking through may represent him hopped up on drugs “the drugs he’s seen taking in the storyline,” and you see the doctor use a defibrillator on him, which could mean he overdosed. The MVs usually have 2 sides. The one that has to do with the album concept itself, and the one that has to do with the storyline.

MOTS: 7 is an introspective album... I have a feeling it will show the group's journey from how they were to who they are now. So it concludes with this song where they finally have accepted who they are and their destiny - in other words, accepting themselves. RM said in interview with James Corden that 7 means a lot to them, as it has been, among other things, 7 years since their debut. Last year Jin mentioned when receiving an award how a year before that they considered disbanding, and by the reaction of other 6 one could see that it was really hard on them. So it might mean 7 year since their debut. Or it might mean 7 years after him joining BigHit as trainee, as their popularity started rising dramatically fast in 2017, after getting their first Billboard award, I believe.
@cora74805 жыл бұрын
So, this is gonna be long. Sorry in advance. 💜☂️ The more I read these lyrics, the more I think about the boys talking about the time when Hobi left BTS pre-debut and then RM and the members convinced him to get back. I don't know if I'm reaching out here, but I'm starting to think the lyrics might have some references to that. Some parts of the lyrics that made me think of that: "I go back every day to myself of back then, to the life WHERE I CHOSE TO GIVE UP", "The memories of those days come flooding back, Touch of the devil, and fateful recall, I STILL WONDER WHY THEY BECKON ME/CALLED ME AGAIN". Then, next verse, he starts imagining what it would be like life as Jung Hoseok, not J-Hope (maybe thinking what it would have been like if he had actually left and not returned?): “The life of Jung Hoseok who is not J-Hope flashes across my mind/It must have been full of REGRET with no hope till I die, with my dance chasing a ghost, with me blaming my dream, and casting doubt on why I live and breathe”. The use of “regret” here makes me think a lot it must have to do with that. Then, next part, another verse that is more subtle, but may relate to how he said he only came back because he trusted the other members “Into my heart are the answers from those I trusted the most”. So yeah, I’m not crying. You are crying. (I'm using doolsetbangtan translation here) NOW about the Jungian thing: the lyrics bring the idea of memories, beliefs and sense of identity behind the Ego concept. Both the MV and the lyrics seem to portray the Jungian indivuation process from Ego perspective. In the MV, for the non-chorus verses ("Almost forgotten memories return" - when he falls and wakes up in a hospital // "Life not of J-Hope but Jeong Hoseok flashes by" - when the pictures of little Hobi appear in a dark-foggy-thought box), it seems as if it is Ego in contact with the unconscious part of the self. The shots get a little blurry, like when movies portrays memories or thoughts. The recognigtion of the unconscious by the Ego is part of the individuation process. And as Jung points out, Individuation is a process that involves suffering: "Individuation is an heroic and often tragic task, the most difficult of all, it involves suffering, a passion of the Ego: the ordinary empirical man we once were is burdened with the fate of losing himself in a greater dimension and being robbed of his fancied freedom of will. He suffers, so to speak, from the violence done to him by the Self.” That idea is also portrayed in the end of the lyrics: "As difficult as it was, As sad as it was, but [the struggles] became my comfort, and I became to know mySelf, just trust mySelf".
