Are there any habits that I should have included that assist in your gentleman’s journey. Let me know in the comments.

My tailor is a Russian seamstress with a no nonsense attitude as to what will work and won’t work. Her pinning skills are amazing. I have never had cause to complain. I take to her, good quality, but second hand garments, and she transforms them into perfectly fitting suits and jackets. Thank you Svetlana.

A stylish man knows that he should unbutton his jacket/blazer when seated. Our host's attractive ensemble looks rumpled, because he's neglected to unbutton his jacket. There's an easy mnemonic: 1) Whenever standing, do up one's jacket. 2) Whenever seated, undo it. Simple. One will always look better.

As a Florida resident I cannot express the enormous practicality of a pocket square,tie,or boutonniere for a splash of color. I don't have great skin tone so I tend to stick to earth tones. So to wear a paisley tie in green, teal, and pink with a pocket square with just one complimentary color and a boutonniere to bring it together is huge.

Sadly over here a real tailor is seldom to find and very expensive. 'Regular' tailors for simple alterations such as trouser lengths are no problem. I have that book and studying it. One habit I learned is to prepare my attire the day before if there is an important occasion coming up. This avoids stress on the next day and you have time to examine better what would be the best to wear and how.

Thank you very much for the advice. Good habits take time and effort to implement but your investment in both will pay dividends in looking stylish and longevity of your purchases, as I have learned the hard way. Now, it is time for me to be a rebel......bring out best brown suit and get ready to go into town for dinner with my wife. ~ Cheers!

I don't know if this has been covered but clarity of speech, cleanness of diction and care in the choice of words are things I appreciate, especially as I get older. Behind these, the foundation, if you like, lies preparation - mastering your text and practicing what you have to say. This is something increasingly lacking among television presenters, including, unforgivably, those presenting the news. Full marks to you on that - I do believe I detect a slight Welsh lilt? The Welsh are particularly adept in this area.

As someone entering into my 50s soon, I truly appreciate your channel for its information and genuine integrity. Your content and overall video production seem to be improving each time. I really like the unpretentious and non-shouty style you have. Keep up the great work. On an aside, I will be headed to London/Paris in December so I definitely plan to visit some ateliers. Maybe you can do a video of your favorite or most recommended shops in London for men's style.

Thank you for the kind words. I would love to make a video on my favourite London stores and hope to get back to the capital in the very near future. But as a rule of thumb, if you walk the length of Jermyn Street ( and Burlington Arcade) you will see most of my favourite mens stores. Have a great time!

@@TheChapsGuide Thanks for the heads up. St James and Jermyn Street are definitely on my list. I also plan to stop by and see the Glasgows at George Cleverley to check on my commission. Great video. I particularly appreciate your last point, care of self. I just turned 80, so "formal" dress tends to be Sunday's church, but I still enjoy doing my best there. And I agree that trying to look like a youth is silly. After all, reaching 80 is a victory! And I dress classically, so my wardrobe will be appropriate forever.

I am hard pushed to add anything to this list (but that won't stop me adding my 10 penneth). You called it about right and did not let us down by incuding your final crucial point. The need to look after ones self. It can be difficult at times to apply this, especially when you have a family to look after and lots on. Looking upon you yourself as 'The Old Clothes Horse' is an apt analogy. You would not overwork, malnourish and fail to groom a horse. Then expect it to last the distance. So do take the time to invest in yourself. Exercise regularly. Eat well. Ensure you prioritise this, as well as allowing enough time for sleep. Plan ahead for the next day. Maybe one 11th bonus I could add to the list is, be prepared. Bring a brolly, a small flask, a hat, a torch, spare power bank for your phone, a packet of mints. You get the gist. E.g. some general chap paraphernalia which could come in handy on your journey through life. Stay safe everyone and wish this Chap Community good health as we draw towards the close of 2021!

Excellent advice, Ash, on avoiding items that do not play up to one's strengths. -I've always wanted to wear a bow tie, but with a bullish, seventeen-and-a-half inch neck, and a rather broad face, this particular sartorial choice just doesn't look flattering on me.

I have found that the secret about a mirror shine is that once you invest the time in acquiring it on your shoes, maintaining it is really quick. A dusting with brush and cloth, followed by a dab of polish leaves you gleaming. A minute or two and you are done. At this point, I can get a mirror shine in about a half hour if the leather is good.

I used to have my suits made, but I discovered that I am a perfect stock size, so I bought off the peg. Now I'm retired I don't need as much and having owned almost everything for between 20 and 60 years, but because I look after them, most are still as god as new. As for fashion, I set my own, but classical style remains acceptable.

Additional item: Same as your tailor, find a good, trusted barber to take care of your hair style and make it a habit of grooming (finger and toe nails) every so often. I am sure you covered this on different videos but I'd add them as good habits to have.

15:51 I must say I am a great fan of a signature style just take the Kingsman for example I just find a test something to always be wearing the same suit every day. It must be the same attire but this one component that always stays the same in my opinion can have something like a steel point in a very quick flowing river could also be the Thai but just having one part of your outfit that doesn’t change I somehow just like the idea of that I personally have a double breasted pin striped suit which I really just about to wear every dayas long as it’s not too warm or too cold for it
@JonasM.M.Ай бұрын
10:24 I understand what you’re trying to say one should not try to forcefully look young if one isn’t and you would probably say that one shouldn’t try the other way around either though I think it’s really a lot about how one pull it off like for example, I am still quite young and quite far away from your magical 35 as well just in the other direction but I love to wear the kind of suits someone in his 50s or 35 would probably wear someone like Sean Connery or a Jenner Branagh or even his Majesty, but if I try to dress fitting for my age, it will probably end up being quite casual and not nearly as sophisticated and elegant as I adore it

King Charles does not wear a pocket square when he wears his medals on his suit. Of course, no pocket square with a uniform. Ash, I think your dress is right up there with Charles‘s. Difference in budget, of course. I am sure all his suits, shirts and shoes are bespoke. And probably a huge array of clothes.
@JonasM.M.Ай бұрын
7:03 it’s no real critique but I’d like to disagree. Actually there are a few addresses where you would always get the best product of every category. Just look at Rhodes wood a little shop somewhere in Britain which I found on KZbin and I don’t see anything they don’t offer or Hawes And Curtis a German Street shop who you’re also going to buy practically everything from you need to dress well that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make sense to look elsewhere to see if the shop you so very often buy from still has the best pricing and price quality in comparison to other ones, but in general yes I think they are a few shops who actually do offer a pretty much all the gentleman needs of course except things like food but I think you know where I’m heading

@TheChapsGuide2 жыл бұрын
I think you will find that The Chap magazine does not hold the rights to the word 'Chap'. The content of that magazine is entirely vintage focused - this channel is very much focused on the contemporary chap. All content is cyclical on any social media platform, it is merely the interpretation of the topic from another viewpoint. And if you want to talk 'cringy' I suspect that you do not actually hold a peerage 'Lord' Caruthers - now that is cringy!
