You know, when I was a teenager, I used to listen to Helloween a lot, the singer was already Andi Deris, and many people would say they preferred Kiske, because those were the golden years for the band, and because Andi sometimes would have a hard time singing Michael's songs by himself (which I totally understand, cause I do too when I try) and I would always say I loved them both, 'cause the songs from the Deris era are amazing too. When I first heard Kiske was not only coming back to the band, but also Deris was staying AND Kai Hansen, which is the guitarrist and first Helloween singer, that blew my mind. Then I saw an Andi interview, where he says they didn't know each other and they had to meet first to see if it worked. They spent a week or sth like that getting to know each other better and they became very good friends which, as we can see, adds a lot to the chemistry on stage. My teenage self inside of me was filled with joy, cause we can see in rock and metal such huge egos here and there, that even in my wildest dreams I would imagine this working so perfectly. This is a demonstration of how we can stop being so competitive when it comes to art, because cooperation is way better than competition. I really love this band's phase.

Deris and Kiske were meant to singer together forever. Both of them have great voices and are very different from each other. It's a perfect mix. Kiske has that angelical thing on his voice. Deris is more aggressive and has a deeper voice. Andi is my favourite and I think that's why he's still in the band after 27 years. He doesn't pretend to be Kiske. For more Helloween: A young Kiske would be interesting. They filmed a show in London in the early 90s (92, I think), which might be on KZbin. *A Tale That Wasn't Right* is my recommendation for that one. It's a ballad and shows Kiske in terrific form. Also, hearing Kai Hansen, their original vocalist, sing might be interesting. He improved a lot from his early days in Helloween to his later singing in Gamma Ray. For A Helloween Kai song: *Ride the Sky* (never listen to that one in the car. You WILL break the speed limit!). For a Gamma Ray song with him I'd recommend *Rebellion in Dreamland* . There's a great live version of that one on youtube. Other Helloween songs with Kiske: *Save Us* - a less well known song and nobody ever recommends it, but I think it's awesome. His highs on that one are crazy! *Twilight of the Gods* *Eagle Fly Free* Other Helloween songs with Deris: *Perfect Gentleman* - a super fun and slightly silly number :) *The Dark Ride* - Probably best to pick the album version. There's live footage of that one but from what I remember the band wasn't on top form there. Again, a song, and album, that many people tend to overlook. Personally, I think it's one of their best. Slightly darker than what we're used to from the band

When you mentioned not hearing the vocal backups, they are definitely there, it's just hard to tell without knowing what you're listening for - Kai Hansen is an absolute legend and has an extremely distinctive voice, you'll be able to pick him out of a crowd any day as soon as you know it's there and what he sounds like. Helloween is arguably the best metal band EVER in my opinion. They aren't only stunningly talented in playing but in writing and actually revitalized and kept both the speed of metal and German metal flying. The late 80's were a really difficult era for metal and without Helloween we wouldn't have had bands like Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica and Nightwish keeping metal a bit more energetic and fast in the 90's and 2000's. The metal community owes so much to Helloween Edit: NOT EVEN MENTIONING that Helloween LITERALLY started a metal subgenre with power metal and from that spawned an entire new generation

@@peterlane6895 If we're going fully honest, he does not sound the "same" as 1987-88, anyone claiming this is either writting/saying without being objective or is just not listening, while he is still a top performer, he singing has changed thru the years and i don't mean this as a bad thing, just as a fact, he sounds different, more mature (obviously) and adds a lot more vibrato. The whole tour had the songs for all 3 singers convenience tuned 1/2 step down, have no doubt he can sing the songs in the original tuning, after all, he did that with Unisonic, March Of Time is particularly a breath taking song and he did amazing with that one, but those were shorter shows. In a way we should be thankful he "retired" when he parted ways with the pumpkins in 93 because that helped him a lot to keep his voice almost intact for us to be blown with his voice again in the "modern" age. And to be clear this is not bashing him, i'm a Kiske fanboy myself, just keeping it real.

I normally don’t watch vocal coaches on KZbin because they tend to focus only On the vocals and not the performance. HOWEVER, you are different which is a great surprise I’m glad you enjoy everything about the performance I love Helloween is my second favorite band in the world. Loved this reaction I’m subscribing ! :)

Fan-tas-tic. There it is. Fantastic reaction to a fantastic song, which still keeps me focused, even if I´ve been enjoying this masterpiece from the very beginning. Andi and Michael together with three guitars makes this even better than original version. At the moment Helloween may be the best thing, especially live, what comes to heavy music. Keep 'em comin' , there´s plenty to choose. How Many Tears next, maybe ?

Another epic music piece for the month of spookyness and creepyness: Dark Moor - Devil in the Tower Neoclassic/symphonic metal straight from Spain and an amazing one minute middle section of this very song which is very much Elizabeth's guilty pleasure of all time!! Dark Moor is one of those European Neoclassic/symphonic metal bands who are criminally underrated and almost forgotten. Their high time were the late 90s and 2000s years.

I saw Helloween on this tour, it was truly a great gig! There are actually three voices in the band, as solo-guitarist Kai Hansen was the bands original singer. When I saw them he did a couple of songs from their first EP and full length album, plus backup vocals throughout. Michael Kiske was recruited for their second album "Keeper of the seven keys part 1", which this song is on. All three vocalists are featured on the self-titled album Helloween released this summer, with some pretty awesome vocal harmonies prominently featuring all three voices. I´d also suggest you check out Kai Hansen's second band Gamma Ray with original vocalist Ralph Scheepers, Kai Hansen later took over the vocal duties in that band as Ralph Scheepers was recruited by Primal Fear. That guy also has an amazing voice, reminiscent of Rob Halford's. Kai Hansen is more of an acquired taste vocally speaking.

It would be great to see you explore some performers you have never reacted to. For the following I suggest album versions as I am unaware of any high quality live performances: Gojira - One of the greatest metal bands. I recommend "Flying Whales" since it is one of their best. You need to do "Art of Dying" at some point. I think it is their best song just not a good choice for someone's first time hearing the band. Death - A pioneering force in Death/Progressive/Melodic metal. Their early stuff is more intense and thrash and becomes more melodic as the albums progress. For that reason I recommend songs off the final album "The Sound of Perseverance." My personal favorites on that album are "Story to Tell" and "Spirit Crusher." You should also react to "Voice of the soul" as a sort of double reaction with one of the prior ones. It is a short instrumental song but amazing. Just not long enough to warrant a solo reaction.

Another great Video. No doubt that "How many tears" , "March of time" or the new album song "Skyfall" (13mins version) are a must listen tracks. Ps, and "we got the right", if high notes had metal song, it would be We Got The Right! About Kiske, with Amanda Summerville or "Exceptional " from Unisonic are really great. They frequently use this battle with th evil cause they are Christians in a way, one of the reasons that Kiske leave the heavy metal for years was cause he just get tired of the inhumanity and darkness "wave" that was very strong in the 90's. You can listen from him in some interviews. In fact I believe that he's a really great guy for one of your next "tea's" , would be a awesome interview. Cheerzz

The solo parts you thought sounded like they were taken straight out of a Beethoven concerto are actually excerpts from the Hungarian Dances by Johannes Brahms, though sped up and obviously alienated. (Helloween also mentioned this themselves in an interview back in 1987.) The part starting at 27:37 sounds somewhat similar to the beginning of Hungarian Dance no. 5.

Andi wanted Kiske in the band since 2006. He said he wanted to collab with him on Keeper of the seven keys: legacy, but Weikath wasn't so sure and Kiske was angry with him at that time. Andi is a great guy and so is Kiske.

Keep up the stellar work!

Loved how you noted the Dickinson influence and you commenting on singing over blastbeats, although this is a power metal song, I've always thought that the more aggressive the music the more aggressive the vocals so it just makes sense that when you get to death metal, vocals turn to growls. Your reaction to the high notes in the chorus was great and I loved it too. Since you reacted to Iron Maiden's Writing on the Wall, it would be nice if you react to Helloween's Skyfall. Although it's a shame that the video is an edited "short" version compared to the album's original, I think you'll like the sci-fi element in it, you'll get a chance to hear Kai Hansen sing on it too and it's just a great song. Also, I'd recommend listening to some Rhapsody or Angra to listen to Fabio Lione, I think he's a great singer that often goes overlooked in reaction channels.

Someone might have already mentioned this. Deris, Kiske, and Hanson got along so well during Pumpkins United that Kiske and Hanson both rejoined the band for the new Helloween album. The new album is probably my favorite Helloween album since Master of The Keys, maybe even since Keeper of The Seven Keys part 2. If you want to hear Deris on his own I would recommend pretty much anything from Master of The Keys through Rabbit Don't Come Easy. I actually really like the Deris Era of Helloween. Some Helloween fans only like the first 3 albums.

Andi is great. He really did 'save' the band. His songwriting is really exceptional and his tenure allowed Helloween to do what they do better than any other band (power metal) while still managing to grow. "Rings", "Raw", and "Dark Ride" are a great trio that shows the progression under Andi and the new album is a triumph.

When i hear this song, i am almost speechless, it is a masterpiece in my opinion. And wow they are so amazing live and all of those high notes, i can never get enough of high notes. It is funny, the only version i had heard before hearing the original version of this song, it was actually a cover from a band called Reinxeed, which is a swedish band co-founded by Tommy Johansson from Sabaton and his other band Majestica. That cover is amazing as well, because Tommy can do it all so damn well. Low notes no problem, high notes easy and all of the other in between as well. :)

Actually, if you listen carefully (watch the video ;o) ) you can hear Kai Hansen singing the part "oh, it's Halloween". So it is actually 3 voices there and they are all in sync - simply amazing. I saw this concert in the best concert hall in Europe for live performance and Helloween really outdid it - better than the studio version.

Fun fact (maybe?): Way back in the late 80's (I was in high school), I ordered the record (that's right, a vinyl record) of Keeper pt 1. The only reason I did so was because I liked the album artwork. Never heard of Helloween or what type of music they played. It goes without saying that that was one of the best music purchases of my life. Been listening to them ever since (Kiske era Helloween is my favorite though). On a side note, did the same with Megadeth's Peace Sells album. Only bought it because I like the artwork. Also a wise investment.
@jackbears44073 жыл бұрын
Me too, Keeper pt2 was my first Helloween album because of the artwork, since then, Keeper pt1, Walls of Jericho and a lot more. I've bought the two Keepers later as picture discs, then as CDs and, thank God, came Spotify, because none of them records is yet playing, I've ruined them all by listening to them over and over again. Today, after almost 40 years they're still a milestone in my playlist :D

It's considered to be the absolute Power Metal Anthem, the song that influenced millions of people and turned them into power metallers and of course it has one of the most epic endings of all time. And Michael was 18 years old when they recorded the song. If you listen to the ending, you will undeerstand what i mean :)

To clarify (I haven't read all the comments) as a 30 year drummer who's done all kinds of metal, blast beats consist of (and it varies) rapid succession of kick-snare-kick-snare-kick-snare, usually along the 32nd notes or 16th notes. They basically trade off, like hyperspeed punk beats. What you are referring to was an increased tempo standard power metal double kick pattern where the snare hits on the 2 and 4 but 16th notes are completely filled in by kicks. You're getting into all of my favorite bands of all time this month. Elizabeth, you are my favorite KZbinr. It's been settled. You're hitting me in the childhood with all of these.
