@conors4430

RA my favourite band and have been since 2006. A few facts. This song almost didn’t make the album, the band didn’t particularly like it, their booking Agent told them they were idiots to not include it. So they did, and it became their biggest song. Tim would also be cool to get an interview with. He’s one of the nicest guys in rock ‘n’ roll and up until 2017, nine years after this song was released. He had never had a singing lesson, but his voice started to play up, and he started to Get issues on an off stage. He got vocal training in between their album, wolves and their latest album nowhere generation. The difference in his voice between those two albums is crazy, because he has found a way to bring the grit back into his voice without destroying his voice. And that’s basically 20 years into his career. Anything from the albums, revolutions per minute, siren, songs of the counter culture, the sufferer and the witness or Appeal To Reason is basically solid gold. And the latest album, Nowhere Generation is brilliant because he has been able to let loose vocally in a way he wasn’t able to sustain for a good few years. Because of vocal lessons.
@InjectTheWaste
@InjectTheWaste 7 ай бұрын
Yeah when she was mentioning that his voice sounds like its almost about to break, its because it was, no training and screaming like he was was unsustainable but produced such a raw emotionally driven sound that resonates in such an awesome way. the nowhere sessions of the classic songs show how big the change in his voice was after vocal training, the songs are completely different.

The producers are Bill Stevenson (also the drummer for The Descendents, ALL, and at one time Black Flag) and Jason Livermore at the Blasting Room. This is one of my all time favourite bands. I love Tim's voice, I love how they play with tempo shifts, I love their lyrics, their energy, all of it. But more than anything else, I love how every part of their music speaks to me from a place of deep, deep compassion and thoughtfulness. And I think no song encapsulates what I mean better than "Tragedy + Time" and I would love to see you react to it. The song, to me, is about the importance of acknowledging and accepting sadness and grief as a necessary part of life, in order to be able to overcome and grow out of it. It makes you feel seen, it gives you hope and perspective and it is one of those songs, that has probably saved thousands of lives already. This song kinda triggered something in me many years ago. It wasn’t a new song to me, I had been listening to it since it came out and seen them live a couple times. It just didn’t really hit me until I was in a certain situation and happened to hear it. That day I made a choice to make a change and walk away from someone and something that I had put many years of my life into up to that point, trying desperately to make it work despite all the bullshit. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I realized that the mental toll it was taking on me wasn’t worth what I was getting in return, so I walked away. It’s weird how you can hear a song countless times and then when you hear it at the right time and place it can have a completely different and profound effect on you like that. Either way, I’ve never looked back since I made that choice, and the only thing I’d go back and change is that I wish I had done it sooner.

I looooooved this band in high school. Haven't listened to it in years but it still brings me back. They have a lot of really good songs I would just listen to on repeat for hours. Hope you do another video on them at some point. Saw them live back in 2010 and they were great. I never realized at the time how much symbolism they put into their music. I think they're the only band I've seen where the audience at one point sang an entire verse for them.

Elizabeth, thanks for introducing me to another great artist. I suggest everyone check out your library of videos, as they will likely learn of a new favorite. My new favorites are The Warning, a power trio of 3 sisters from Mexico and Angelina Jordan, a self taught jazz singer who can sing just about anything. I have no doubt at all, both will be creating awesome music for decades to come.

If you're dipping your toes into punk my I recommend a few songs from on of my favorite bands, Against Me!: Pints of Guinness Makes You Strong (I prefer the version from The Acoustic EP but its a fantastic early song of theirs), 8 Full Hours of Sleep (This is the song that made me fall in love with Laura Jane Grace's voice there's a comfort to in it), Black Me Out (More of what you would think a punk song to be) and I'll stop with the songs Thrash Unreal and Stop from the album New Wave (These are probably Against Me!'s most recognizable songs I know when i was going through their discography they stood out as songs I heard before knowing them)

Saw them at Louder Than Life a couple years ago and he sounded amazing, but some songs are difficult for singers to perform after so many years. David Draiman is a good example, he's an amazing vocalist but some songs he just doesn't have quite the same voice as he use to 20 years ago.

@@TheCharismaticVoice I'm excited for that. In that case I'll give one more suggestion from a more personal place that I have wanted you to do since I discovered you years ago. Leon Russell is a local legend here in Tulsa. He greatly inspired a whole generation of artists in the 70s including Elton John and Eric Clapton. I don't feel he gets the recognition he deserves among the rock gods of the past. He has a song called "A Song For You" that he puts so much emotion into that it hurts. The song has been covered by artist ranging from Willie Nelson and Ray Charles to Whitney Houston, Michael Buble and Amy Winehouse. Unique and emotional voice.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but the way you highlight the production aspect of this song has helped me understand the role of a producer in making music. The musicians perform the song with their instruments and voices, the producer uses the band as an instrument. Definitely adds another element to the way I think about the music I constantly listen to.
