This is an old Russian folk song. I do know “Folk, Native American,” and what’s called “Mountain Music” here in the Appalachians...THIS beautiful young lady is a very special GIFT to the rest of us. Two things in this world bring people together...the sharing of food, and music. Music is simply “storytelling.” If she were to be an ancestor of the same lineage as myself, she’d be a “shaman,” or an “oracle.” A holy person to be taught the history of her people through song... and storytelling. Whew, definitely blew me away...her young age be damned lol.

They also sang a lot of those sad weeping ritual songs at a wedding because it was genuinely a bad transition for many brides in traditional Russian village culture. The girl was often abused by both her new husband and by the rest of his family who would treat her as a slave. There was genuine reason for the emotion in the weeping rituals. Keep in mind that it's not like that in a lot of other related Slavic cultures- this is a reflection of how particularly awful Russian village life was for women compared to other neighbor slavs. (My sources are family members who were folklorists in the Soviet era, as well as their equivalent of academic anthropologists. Those family members gave me a set of Melodia (Soviet record label) field recordings of those kinds of songs at some point in the late 80s, along with q huge treatise on what the context was)

You're very expressive and very intense feeling as well. To us, Russians, intensive, quite often dramatic perception of the world is someting traditional Russian. By the way her chanting in that song has nothing to do to eiher Middle East or West Indian. It's more a mixture of folk Russian manner of singing and Tyva or Buryat shamanic troat singing. Tuva and Buryatia are Russia's regions. Diana [di'ana], not [dai'na]. She was 14 at that Song Contest in 2018. By the way she's an adopted girl. He real mother almost killed her in the bathtub when she was 3 years old. And then she threw Diana in the street in winter time. So then Diana spent 2 years in an orphanage, she didn't say a word, that is lost an ability of speech. When she was 5, she was adopted by an employee of this orphanage and on the advice of her friends she took her to a vocal teacher and so, and Diana first restored her singing, and then began to speak again. As you see, she has a special fate. She sings first and just then she speaks. In other words she needs to sing to just talk. So you can hear the results of her soul trauma in her manner of singing though she has actually overcome it and transforms it into something genious.

Performed: 1) Derniere Dance 2) This is a Mans' World 3) Rechenka 4) Tomorrow is a Lie - won the season Next year they organized a Superseason, gathered finalists of the previous two seasons. Diana performed: 1) Blizzard 2) Wicked Game 3) Human. Diana won Grand Prix.

I'm honestly living for your reactions to Diana's performances! I love your enthusiasm, you're just HERE FOR IT and I guess I can relate to that a lot. I'm not much of reaction videos fan, but since I first saw Diana, I couldn't stop looking for new first reactions over and over again, because honestly? Diana just gets inside your head, coaxing her way under your skin with those tribal sounds of her voice, and moves, and just _everything,_ making you feel something so achingly, distinctly familiar, like a long-forgotten primal call from your ancestors crossing that time bridge somehow through her? Can you feel me? Anyway, yeah. I love that in your reactions I see the reflection of my own. With lots more of professional insight, of course lol. And I love your little excited laughs there as well! Personally, I'd recommend doing a reaction to Diana's «It's a Man's World» next, shows a new side of her as an artist. And I think that «Snowstorm/Blizzard» («Вьюга» in Russian) is really underrated, please check it out. There's, of course, «Human», but maybe save it for later, or at least give her other songs a chance, too. They're all too good. WHOOP, this took too long. Can't wait to see new reactions from you! I love your reaction to Diana! I love how Diana at such a young age can make the audience feel the "mood of the music"! I feel that everytime I see her perform! She is a "narural at this"! There are some people that were "born to perform" and Diana is one of those people! I cried when Michael Jackson died because I never thought I would see or hear in my life again,a musical talent like he possessed!
