I loved today’s video with all the different snippets: the gas tank installation, the bat stalking, the new herbs regimen, the family history with those amazing animated photographs 🥰, the visitors, the table decoration and the new lamps, Nick’s return, 🎭 and you, Stephanie cooking in the kitchen, making salads to appease Philip’s China addiction, solving the turnip glut and making pancakes for Shrove Tuesday! Well done and I agree, that’s it’s wonderful that you’re enjoying more of everyday life and cooking Stephanie! 🥰🥰

Heating fuel tanks such as yours dot the American rural landscape, especially noticeable when traveling by train as the tracks often run along the back gardens of properties. Bless the French and their commitment to aesthetics (and historic provenance?). As Isabelle observed she had never seen the greenhouse beds so full, I thought back to several years ago when she spoke anxiously about how far behind the small staff was in keeping up with the garden and not using the harvest efficiently enough. How gratifying to see how reassured she is by the current staff and volunteers' terrific skills and garden management system. (And how lovely to see Isabelle's desire to please Percy by dressing nicely for him. She deserves a day of play clothes and hairclips.)

I don't really like turnips but my mother does, and every Thanksgiving I make them for her. My go-to recipe is to cut them into cubes, boil them in water infused with three or four chamomile tea bags and cook until tender. Then drain them and toss with salt, pepper, olive oil and honey and roast in a hot oven until browned and caramelized.

When Stephanie was in the dining room with her mother looking at the photos, the color combination of her jumper, scarf and the red Oriental dining room wall paper was amazingly beautiful! Turnip greens can be cooked with bacon and eaten as well, as long as they aren't the thorny kind! You can make Scottish Bashed Neeps and Cock-a-Leeky Soup! And Haggis! So much digging going on at LaLande. Very interesting! Any archaeological finds? I love Wrens, also known as Troglodytes, it seems! I wish Isabelle and Gerry could have stayed longer. 🙏🏻🌷⚜️💗⚜️🌷🙏🏻

Hi Stephanie. In the Southern USA, we cook turnips (peeled and cut into uniform chunks) in a pot with some water, salt, pepper, butter, and sugar to taste. The sugar removes the "harsh' taste that turnips can have. They are yummy. Sometimes people mash them like potatoes also.

@karenniehues4786 That's how we ate them growing up, turnip greens flavored with bacon or ham hocks and small turnip bits. (Mostly about the greens.) In fact, you can order turnip greens in some restaurants in the south where I grew up, still. I love them! Unfortunately, most grocers chop off and waste the greens, just like with beet root. Beet root greens are delicious and extremely healthy because they help the body get rid of toxins. Such a waste of excellent nutrients, too. Eat the greens! 🤗
