This explains where the "girl disguises herself as a boy to get into a boy's school and falls in love with a boy there" trope that we see in dramas comes from!

When I was a child visiting my dad in China, we had a nice neighbor who also had a young girl about my younger brother's age. She invited us over once to have a play date and they showed us this animated movie. The story was so moving and so beautiful that we finished it even without understanding a word of Chinese and no subtitles, and the storyline stuck with me. That story was of The Butterfly Lovers. Truly timeless.

There r also many bad stories like 朱定伯捉鬼 about a boy tricking a ghost and selling it(even tho the ghost did nothing to the boi) 南阳宋定伯年少时,夜行逢鬼。 (here it is)

That's why I don't like Xu Xian. If Bai Su Zhen had wanted to harm him, why hadn't she done it earlier on? Why wait till she had a child with him?? After all that time they've spent together, that meant nothing to Xu Xian in the end when compared to the fact that she's a snake monster. That doesn't sound like true love to me. If you hadn't already, I would suggest watching The Sorcerer and the White Snake 2011. It's a movie, and the Xu Xian in that movie isn't as much of a wimp.

These are really cool stories.....very romantic. But something puzzles me - all of these stories show the couples as very much in love and weren't afraid to profess and show their love. In present day, it seems that Asian couples are more stoic - well...maybe more my parent's generation, do you see this. I typically do not see Asian couples as "lovey-dovey." I wonder why this is the case?
@TheFeyRa8 жыл бұрын
Sue Duong they're not that lovey-dovey, I think. The people in these stories show their love through action rather than words, which is maybe how your parents would act? Note that these people were undergoing some sort of tragedy, which would have forced them to be more demonstrative than they otherwise would be.

This is a drama series about the story of the Cow Herder and the Weaving Maiden. The Little Fairy 2005. A very touching drama series with a similar story about a mortal man and an immortal maiden being in love. The Butterfly Lovers: Leon and Jo. This is an animated film based on the legend of the Butterfly Lovers. The Sorcerer and the White Snake 2011. This is a film about the legend of white snake. I think there are English subs for The Little Fairy, The Butterfly Lovers: Leon and Jo, and the Sorcerer and the White Snake, but I'm not sure about the others.

Maybe the Japanese based it on that tale? As far as I am concerned these tales are ancient and many Japanese people are ethnically Chinese
