I'm 25 and am going to start med school at 30 because I will only have my permanent residency then. Sometimes I get discouraged seeing all these young amazing future doctors, but I have to remind myself that I'm not them and I'm doing this for me! 👍🏼 for the All Walks Of Life

I really enjoyed watching this video and it confirmed to me that none of the things you guys said could keep me away from medicine. It just that I gave up medicine last year because of my learning disability and feeling overwhelmed. People were amazed that I gave up after times I was persistent in my studies but, it was hard because I knew what my purpose was and I stop. I don't feel like a failure because I didn't give up 100% as I thought. Just that God has redirected my focus and showed me that medicine is still my purpose.

~LONG REPLY ALERT~ I read a lot of comments from a younger crowd that’s still in high school and I want to encourage you all to continue to be amazing! I get so much inspiration from y’all. I have been dragging my feet on taking MCAT and I’m a ED to ICU RN transitioned during COVID-19 over time (actively working ICU the last 5 months). I want to be a physician to further my practice and I’m older... I went into health care as a medic 20 years ago, kept up my national registry of paramedics while in nursing for 12 years... I realize by putting myself out here on KZbin people are calling me out for being a older person wanting this! I’m not able to stop myself from this journey... I have BSN and I went back to a university 2016-2018 to fight through all of the required sciences and was laughed at by fellow RNs and If I talk about wanting to become a Physician... I get( these comments all the time with laughter to my face)you’re too old (become a NP or CRNA) you’re never going to make it. Lots of jokes from folks; and it saddens me to Strength of determination to follow through with the journey...I have something in my soul to offer to medicine...

Congratulations my love!! I'm proud of you!! Please Don't listen to the negativity. If being a physician, and serving the public is your passion, then do it!!!! Age doesn't define your determination, wit, character, and your overall ability to accomplish your goals. KEEP GOING!!!! Just imangine the look on your colleagues faces when you do become an M.D. All that laughter is going to turn into praise. (Also Thank you for being on the front lines during the pandemic 💕)

Thanks so much for this video! I'm in my senior year of high school, and I'm already having nightmares about medical school, so this vid reassured me that it is a place where I am really interested in attending. Being a doctor is an occupation that I've been passionate about since a kid, but now that I'm closer to university and basically going to be in a new realm of schooling, I'm beginning to stress a lot more about medical school in general. Do you have any advice for productive activities or volunteer opportunities that I could take part of to reduce some of this worry? I was also wondering about your support system when you would struggle in school: what kept yourself motivated to continue if you were failing?
@TheChocolateDocs4 жыл бұрын
Hey love! Try not to be stressed right now. You have so many exciting years ahead of you in college and you should aim to enjoy that time. As of now, if you are able to do so during this pandemic, you can reach out to physicians to shadow, volunteer at food banks, hospitals, clinics, etc. Also, find ways to volunteer in areas that interest you. Everyone's support system is different, but I relied on my mom and best friend as well as close med schools friends. Also, remembering your "why" for choosing medicine can help you during those times.

Hey Jessica and Nneka! LOVED this video, you are both gorgeous inspirations of black women in medicine 🤗I literally just found your channel and you guys have great content keep it up! I'm going into the third year of my undergrad degree and will be taking the MCAT next summer; I'm glad I watched this video for some re-evaluation before I take a big step towards a medical career 😊 Also Nneka, I LOVE your hair! Where did you get it if I could ask? 🙈

@TheChocolateDocs4 жыл бұрын
Focus on doing well in high school and enjoying that experience! Once you start college you can start thinking about what you need to do to be prepared for medical school!
@janeenfreeman20764 жыл бұрын
Start taking science classes like Anatomy and Physiology and AP classes. If there are any extra programs that your high school offers you like CNA training that you can take apart of classes do that so you can see if the medical profession is indeed for you. For them to tell you not to worry about it in high school was just plain dumb. The earlier the better.
@TheChocolateDocs4 жыл бұрын
@@janeenfreeman2076 Hey love, we did not specifically say "do not worry about it in high school." To suggest our statement to him was "dumb" was uncalled for as we welcome all advice and do not pass judgement on someone else's opinion. Not every school offers the same advanced courses and it's important to focus on doing well in school first in order to be a strong applicant when applying to college, extracurricular activities aside. We appreciate your advice to him and ask for you to do the same for us in the future.

Is it realistically possible to get accepted into a high IQ college or medical school with a ged? Will it be looked at differently and thrown out?

That's a great question and we're actually not sure about that. I would reach out to the admissions office of colleges and medical schools and ask them directly.
