The story line on Mary. I was saved when I was very young, Decades later my husband left me and I reverted way back too. I fell into sin and like Mary felt so unworthy of Jesus. @DiscipleDave DotCom Not entirely correct. The Father counts us righteous because of our faith, and that has never changed. Pre-Jesus, people had faith in the Father's promises to Abraham but were still under the curse of the law. Post-Jesus people were made free from the law and salvation became available to all, but by having faith in Jesus Christ being made flesh, dying, then resurrecting on the third day we are baptized in His name. Now the Holy Spirit is available to all who repent and come to faith, whereas before the Holy Spirit dwelled in a temple.

You have to careful though. Let's say you die in the midst of your sin where will we go? So there's a difference. Be it whatever reason he/she backslides you better believe God is not going to take their soul from the earth. We don't know. That's why it's important not to live in sin. This is really a key role of The Blessed Mother Mary -- she brings all of us closer to her Son.

I love this show and have watched it over and over. I see myself in each of the people he comes across. I love how you did Mary and falling into her safety net when she was gripped with fear and anxiety and couldn’t see any other way in that moment. I’ve been there. As I’m sure a lot of people have. Especially when you suffer from depression or PTSD. You already have a hard time with reality and stress. Triggers just compound it more. It sends you into a spiral of self doubt and worth. So Dallas and crew, THANK YOU 🙏🏼 so much for you willingness to talk about the hard stuff. It’s real!!

I so deeply admire the integrity and courage it takes to not pull your punches, Dallas. In the face of arguably the most critical audience on the planet (the internet, but especially fellow Christians on the internet, sadly enough), you let the 1st Century world be raw and realistic as far as running the gambit of human emotion and frailty that other projects and the general body of organized religion shy away from. That takes great honesty and guts!

I appreciate Dallas' clarification concerning the episode on another KZbin post. What was unclear at first to me was Mary's reaction before she ran away appeared to be in connection with the demon-possessed man (she held her hand to her forehead depicting the same headache she got prior to being demonized in Episode 1). And she then runs away right after Jesus casts out the demon from the man. So it appeared that Mary was running away because she was being demonized again. I did not make the connection about the Roman being a trigger for her trauma.

“Becoming a Christian” isn't extreme soul makeover anymore than a Disney happily ever after. The preachers like to preach this to collect more souls, status, and money. The disciples, read the Bible, to see the disciples were in a process of change as they walked with the Messiah. “Work out your salvation...” is what Dallas is showing. The relationship between the Shepherd and the sheep, the renewal of their minds and hearts -even after Peter betrays Him not once like Judas, but three times. It's expected, not shamed, that the sheep go astray. It's ok to be in the process...

Yes, we are still just babies when born again. In spite of having a personal transformation, we still have to grow as children and then to fully mature "sons" whom He is not ashamed to call "brothers" and share the inheritance with us. We don't pop out of the spiritual womb perfect. We feel so blessed to walk with Christ and know His mind that it's easy to think we have arrived at the finish line, but we've only just picked up our cross. We still must walk from faith to faith, glory to glory, fighting the good fight,, pressing toward that mark that is so much more than we can even imagine. He is that awesome.
@fearnot17803 жыл бұрын
“Work out your salvation!” Yes, a process of daily renewing our mind! Example: Last night, I had scary thoughts because of physical pain. Negativity, fear, anger, etc. When I woke this morning, I repented for allowing those emotions to envelop my thought process, because I know dwelling in those dark places gives the enemy a foothold. I also spoke to the spirit of all such negativity to leave in the name of Jesus. Today, I feel much better. In the past, I have allowed myself to go too far with rage, anger, and hopelessness; at that point, it became an issue of depression. So, I have learned that I must renew my mind daily, fellowship with the Lord, and take captive all thoughts that are not going to lead to fruitful living. My point, we have to do what the Holy Spirit guides us to do as we work out our own salvation, and wash, rinse repeat! We are human, we will mess up again.

This is why ongoing conversation or constantly turning back to God is so important. :) Beautiful show, keep up the good work.

Dallas, I've heard you make the comment about Jesus quoting Psalm 22 on the cross ("why have you forsaken me?") several times as an example to show that he sometimes questioned and was unsure. I absolutely love the show and see God's hands all over it, and I agree with your take that he didn't always have "God goggles" on, but I think in this case you're misinterpreting the words "Why have you forsaken me?" Psalm 22 is an expression of *victory* in the midst of deep anguish, where God comes through in the end. It's a psalm expressing deep *trust* and *faith* in the Lord even when it seems all hope is lost. Psalm 22 is like that moment in an epic movie where it seems all hope has been lost and evil is just about to win, but at the last second the reinforcements arrive, the proton torpedoes hit their mark, or the eagles swoop in to rescue the heroes. Yes it is a psalm of great physical anguish but Psalm 22 is absolutely NOT a psalm of despair, abandonment or rejection. The psalm does not minimize the pain at all, but it sees the victory coming through the pain or in spite of the pain. Obviously you should check with your scholars for deeper insight but I think even a surface reading of the entire psalm reveals this. You know how you can quote one line from a movie and this instantly recalls the entire storyline? Four words: "I am your father." Or one line of Scripture: "God so loved the world." You've done it on The Chosen several times as well, where one person begins reciting a verse of Scripture and the rest of the group know exactly what that person means, and they often even recite the rest of the scripture along with them. This is what I believe Jesus was doing when he said "Why have you forsaken me?" He wasn't actually saying that he felt forsaken, but reassuring himself that he had NOT been forsaken. Plus, I think he probably only had the physical strength to recite one line out loud. But one line was enough for all the Jewish people around him to remember the rest of the words in the psalm. And what do the rest of the words say? “In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. For he *has not* despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he *has not* hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.” [emphasis mine] Jesus is telling us that, just like David, He continues to trust in the Father, even in great anguish, when everyone else has failed him. And even when it appears that God has abandoned him, Jesus knows that it's not true-the Father hears and sees him. He’s also thinking of the prophetic fulfillments in Psalm 22: “Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me.” Jesus is reminding us that everything that is happening at that moment is going *exactly according to plan*. It's the classic movie twist where the bad guy thinks he has just won, but then the good guy smiles and says "That's exactly what I hoped you would do." It's Jesus telling the devil "You just fell into our trap. Checkmate." So the words “why have you forsaken me” are not at all the words of a man temporarily doubting his God. This is a battle cry of contempt against the overwhelming, unmasked evil before him. This is a declaration that he is indeed in great anguish, but that in killing him the enemy has unwittingly played right into his hands. It’s a triumphant cry of victory coming at great cost. If you’re still not convinced, look to the last lines of Psalm 22: “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord. Future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn: He has done it!” You and I and all of us who follow Jesus are those "people yet unborn" who proclaim the Lord's righteousness because of what Jesus did while hanging on that cross remembering the words of David. And doesn't "He has done it" sound very close to some other words Jesus spoke on the cross? Quoting Psalm 22 was NOT Jesus momentarily questioning his mission. It was instead Jesus declaring Mission Accomplished! He *has* done it. It is finished! Bless you and everyone involved in the production of The Chosen!

In other words, Jesus knew exactly what he was going through and the end of it. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last --- Revelation 22:13 I declare the end from the beginning --- Isaiah 46:10

Well said, Jesus spoke Aramaic and not Hebrew. The translation of his words from Aramic are - for this I was spare....Jesus confirming he knw why he was on the cross.

Thank you, Dallas. This explanation helped me to process this show. I agree with you - your logic is Biblically sound - and I also know, first hand, that a person can backslide after being redeemed. Thank you for all your hard work. This show is amazing, and I love it so much that as soon as I finish, I turn right back around and start with season 1, episode 1 all over again. Praise God!

Dallas, many thanks for the narratives to give almost everyone a road map to plausible, logical and scriptural scenes. Creative reality offers you the opportunity to take the fact that as Jesus and John the Baptist were cousins, they would have a moments together, chatting about their destinies. Same thing goes for the scenes with Jesus and the children - a beautiful picture of our Savior’s adoption of us as children of God. Freely given and with no exception. The children seeking him out for his teachings was like Nicodemus seeking the way, the truth and life (his rebirth) or redemption. You have captured scripture in the most true to life and plausible scenarios ever made. Where some disagree, it’s ok. It’s healthy in that it encourages us to read the scriptures. May the Holy Spirit continue to be you and your co-writers literary guide. Amen!

I have tremendous respect for your conviction when you believe what you're doing is right and honorable and also your ability to realize you may be wrong. I could never follow anyone spiritually who doesn't exhibit a great deal of vulnerability and humility. Thanks for all you and your amazing team are doing. God bless you all!

I love the scene when Jesus prepares his sermon. I believe that God decided to become man with all consequences. With the risk of getting a cold or blisters on the feet, that he had to learn things and so on. Why not preparing and rehearsing a sermon? In Hebrews 5,8 we read "though he was the Son, yet LEARNED obedience by the things which he suffered" And in the Eucharistic Prayer we pray that Jesus was "equal to us in everything except sin". (Sorry for my bad english)

actually my least favorite scene. But it is not enough to keep me from loving the show. And it may be very significant to other people just like the writer above.

But then the show also shows him being omnipotent, reciting back private prayers of his disciples and knowing peoples’ entire lives and their innermost thoughts. With all that, this scene doesn’t make sense. They went too far with the human-side of Jesus angle there. That said, I am still liking the show. It doesn’t need to be perfect when there are so many other powerful moments.

Actually I change my mind after watching half this video. If we start questioning if it’s ’plausible’ John The Baptist was wrong, then we can question a lot of our faith. He says he isn’t saying John was wrong, but just putting the question out there. However, from the way he portrayed it, his mind seems pretty made up. I also read of his misunderstanding of Jesus’s “Why have you forsaken me” line, the true meaning of which I’ve heard many teachers explain since I was a kid. Another commenter has kindly explained it in detail. So, most regretfully, I must end watching this show ☹️

I loved the conversation with John, personally. Because if there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that you can do the right thing, or have a certain expectation, or have the technically correct viewpoint on something, and God will still sometimes say, "You're absolutely right. But that's not what I want for you *right now*. Don't get ahead of Me, ok? Wait for MY timing." Am I saying John's timing was wrong? No. Is it possible that it was? Maybe. I'm not God. And He's the only one who knows for sure.
