I wish guys did work like you around here. The standard is rca and sand for base. Some guys do concrete and than sand. I will say my uncle has concrete and sand around his pool for 25+ years with zero issues. On long island
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Yea those are definitely more traditional ways of laying pavers. They work good and are tested and true methods. The only problem with those 2 methods is when they are installed in areas that are constantly wet. The water is absorbed by the gravels base / concrete and sand which makes the pavers deteriorate quicker and causes shifting / sinking when winter comes and the ground freezes / thaws. This method works excellent for well draining areas and very wet areas. I have been using this method for 4.5 years now with no issues. ✌

Yes sir, can't get off them! LOL. A plum bob probably would have worked very good, didn't really think about it honestly and I don't have one...LMAO. I'm completely fine with guys taking their shirts off, I'm all about my guys being comfortable on the job site. The people who disagree with it are ridiculous in my opinion. But most keep them on just so they don't get burned up really... ✌

Thanks man, yea I really don’t mind much about stuff like that. This work is tough, your guys need to be as comfortable as possible. Some companies here in Massachusetts make their guys wear polos while landscaping and Hardscaping. That’s ridiculous in my opinion.

How do you figure out how to cut the blocks that are next to the pillar? Do you just cut off that one small end to make it flush and alternate half and full as you go up?

Love the wall and color combination. You really inspired me -- I can give it a shot. I am trying to build a sitting wall (freestanding) 20" high with 2 columns/pillers. Planning on laying a geogrid with the column and wall to keep it together as you showed. But I am having a hard time finding the type you used in a smaller size (2'X2' column extending to couple of blocks in the wall). Can I use a galvanized steel fencing wire mesh instead? Or any other alternatives? Really appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. I am using techobloc 6" mini-creta
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Nice, sounds like a cool project! I would not recommend any kind of metal mesh, it is probably to thick... You can get geo grid in many different sizes, Whatever size you can find can be cut down to fit what you need just fine.

How much higher are you setting the first row over the string line before hitting it down? 1/4” ? Btw this channel is about to blow up for sure. 100k subs ain’t far away
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Yes, 1/4" - 3/8" higher to make sure they don't sink down the road. And thank you very much for the positive feedback, this KZbin experience has been awesome so far. Looking forward to what the future brings!

Do you recommend building sitting wall first, then lay the patio? or lay the patio and put the sitting wall on top of the pavers?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
I never build sitting walls on top of pavers nor would I recommend it. Any wall should always be built on the base stone.

Why are the end blocks “upside” down, meaning flat part on top? Is this something that is some on first and last blocks only?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
So those are actually solid blocks, they are not upside down. These wall blocks come with a few solids mixed in so you can make your own corners if you have a block splitter.

@@TheChristianHardscaper thanks a lot for answering. That makes sense. So if you don’t use all then for corner making, you can just put them in anywhere?

Question: I’m in the process of laying pavers in an 8’ square area. On one side is a palm tree which is just over a foot away from the base gravel and it has roots growing out that I cut. Would it be helpful to bury some 6” wide concrete blocks at grade level along that side and fill with gravel to divert the roots? Or is the base gravel alone sufficient? Thanks
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
The base stone will be just fine. The roots will always find a way around things, but it should not cause problems for many, many years.
@socalsand86

@@TheChristianHardscaper thanks for the response. I actually bought these 12” polyethylene root barriers. Digging 12” trench 20’ long with a mattock through roots every inch of the way really sucked. 😡

Kyle, what is the height you leave between the block and level that was on top of the level pipe?

1/4" - 3/8". That will let you settle it down into place nicely.
