Joseph R Gannascoli played Vito Spatafore on The Sopranos - a supporting character who was a mobster in Tony Soprano's crew. There have been some strange stories online regarding Gannascoli. Apparently he has a beef with the rest of The Sopranos cast and fans have had bad encounters with him. Let's investigate.

I met him accidentally, about 6 years ago in Queens, NY. I was working as a health inspector at the time. My job took me and my assistant to a gay bar and restaurant, where we were investigating reports of contaminated gabagool being served to patrons. As we were walking to the kitchen through the crowded establishment, Mr Gannascoli appeared directly in front of me. He was dressed in leather like a member of the Village People. I saw Joseph Gannascoli at a grocery store in Bedford in 2021. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked gayly at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly...

I did the Sopranos tour in 2013. Takes you to lots of locations used on the show including stopping at Satin Dolls (aka Bada Bing) to have a beer. As a huge fan of the show, I loved every minute of it. At the end of the tour, Joe was standing at the rear of his car selling photos and merch. I opted to buy a couple of signed photos from the show and to have my friend take a photo of me with Joe. He's in full Vito mode in the photo, one arm around my shoulder, his other hand pointing at me as if to say "this guy right here!". As far as I remember, he charged me a total of $20 which I thought was a pretty fair price. I only exchanged a few words with him as I completely got that he only has a limited amount of time to make his money at the end of each tour. He seemed fine to me and I don't begrudge him the opportunity to make some money off his time on the greatest show ever made. I was just delighted to get to actually meet someone from the show and I still cherish that photo to this day. There's been a few times over the years since when I've been chatting to people in bars and the subject of The Sopranos comes up. It's always funny to see their faces when I pull out my phone and show them a pic of me with Vito!

Did a little research - most supporting actors were paid bet $20k-$30k, Gannascoli was in 39 episodes so @ $25k each he would of made total $975k. Sopranos does not pay residuals. So that's not so much for being infamous.

The references are genuinely one of the funniest aspects of this channel, I find myself laughing to them quite often. But, given the fact you're talking about his real life antics, the constant references make it seem like you're not being serious and made me question several times whether you were joking or not. Like an April's fool prank.

During the final season of Sopranos, he used to gonon Howard Stern all the time. He came off as a nice, humble guy. Grateful of the success the show afforded him. And not homophobic. But, then, I was surprised when James Gandolfini died, he gave several interviews to the media about it. The other cast members of The Sopranos were angry, as they claimed he barely knew the man, and that James wasn't particularly fond of him. My guess: a substance abuse issue. He NEEDS to make money to keep out of withdrawal, and gets cranky to say the least when the money isn't forthcoming from fans.

Back in 2008 we had a benefit for a cousin of mine who tragically got hit by a car and lost his life. Joe was there selling personalized signed photos of him sitting outside or Satriales. I bought one signed to my father and I. I always wondered how much of the money he made that evening was actually donated to the benefit. He seemed like a personable alright guy

I think you’re overthinking this. He wasn’t an actor before he was on Sopranos. He had a restaurant that David Chase ate at, Chase took a liking to him and put him in the show. He’s just a guy hustling. But it’s a NY hustle rather than an LA hustle. Imperioli did terrible Tequila commercials after the show. Pretty pathetic, but that’s the life of an actor.

@@alexmuenster2102 the commercials. And I’m not knocking the guy for taking a job. I’m saying that even an accomplished actor like Imperioli is unlikely to ever be involved with a project on the caliber of The Sopranos again. So why are we hating on Gannascoli, who wasn’t an actor in the first place, for doing what he’s gotta do to pay his bills?

I saw him in JFK airport, in NYC one time years ago. Like decades now. The show was still going on but maybe season 6... like 2007 or so. It was in a crowded area at the gate. I noticed him and we made eye contact. I remember he was looking at me like "what's up. I know you recognize me and that's cool, but let's not make a scene..." at least that was how I interpreted it; just gave him a nod and kept going on my way. But as I say, this was still in the Sopranos heyday, maybe he was still soaking up the fame and wasn't desperate yet.

That's easy. Tony hit Mikey at a time after Jackie Aprile died when there was no boss of the Family and a civil war was breaking out. There was no higher authority to weigh in and get Tony in trouble for "breaking the rules." Also Tony hit Ralph in front of a bunch of witnesses whereas nobody saw him hit Mikey

The cast were upset with Joseph Gannascoli for doing a series of interviews after James Gandolfini died. Gannascoli gave glowing interviews that some say turned off the cast and David Chase. Gannascoli said that Gandolfini was "a tremendous guy" who attended his wedding, and that he was "a part of history with Gandolfini" and he also said in other interviews before Gandolfini's death that he didn't leave the show on the best terms with the cast, and that he isn't close to Gandolfini. So some cast members feel that Gannascoli is using Jimmy's death to get his own name out there. Sure, he has the right to make a living and eat but don't do it on someone else's expense with lies especially when that person is no longer here to defend himself.
