The tech gent from Norton should've emphasised the hydraulic tappets and low maintenance of the 961. I hope they keep this model going.

This is a genius idea. Just like Honda did with the CB750 giving the valves hydraulic lifters eliminating the need to make manual valve adjustments. A huge plus in reliability + engine durability in my opinion. Too bad it's not water cooled.

I grew up with a kid whose Pop had both 750&850 Commando Motorcycles and I was fortunate enough to ride those Bikes and the Handled so beautifully compared to the Triples I rode at the time, I was just Gobsmacked! I would Love to see Norton build a new, 6 Speed Commando!

Love the look of the new stuff from Norton i hope they keep putting the good quality steel in,or whatever they use today, because I am 90,years old this year and I remember how well they lasted and when hrd was struggling in the early 50s,they had to build their new machines in second grade material‘my friend bought a 53 black shadow quaranteeed for 125 mph, well this one only touched 110 on sulby and Then the front cylinder was forever seizing and the brakes were not so good as the 51 comets ,that he had 2yrs before.if we had deeper pockets and it Had not been such a difficult journey from the midlands to Stevenage but we had to be back for the afternoon shift at the local colliery and then the weather was foggy.but we made it back to work we had to we couldn’t afford not to..if you find this hard to believe please read john surtees book world champion he worked there for a while "Kenneth lowe

The Commando would be the only reason to buy a Norton. To not have it in the lineup would be foolish. If you can make it reliable, and at a decent price point, (no one needs carbon fibre on a classic) it would sell like hotcakes. 🥞

@@seauryakumar - I hope TVS can keep their price down for the Commando. High power isn't necessary, so they can use a small oil cooler instead of a radiator for liquid cooling like the BSA Gold Star. And if they offer a kick-starter as an option instead of an electric starter, great! Sealed spokes to enabled tubeless tires would also be a neat option.

That first Norton can't decide what it's trying to be... it feels caught between a modern bike and a retro tribute. If you're going to make a retro bike, just make it look as close to the old commando as possible. Or copy the old Atlas, those were beautiful bikes.

I recently bought a 1200 Sporty and coming from always riding Brit bikes like Norton's and Enfields , I was shocked how top heavy the Harley feels . First riding impression was that the bike wanted to fall into a turn which was disconcerting to say the least ! For me, the Harley will be the choice for long highway trips, but for back road bombing I will stick with the Norton Commando or Enfield Interceptor . Not as much power ,but so much sweeter handling .

Lots of crap comments on here from people who know nothing about Norton and its recent history. TVS is doing a fantastic job of looking after customers it has no responsibility for, plus they've already started the redesign of the 650s to fit faults that would have doomed it like the V4SS

I own a 750 and a 850 Norton Commando's I bought them in the 70's . I was going to buy a HD Sportster but they acted like I wasn't good enough to ride a Harley. So I went to the next town down the freeway to the Norton, Triumph, BSA dealer and bought the 750 it was a demo so it had some miles but got a great deal. A year later the 850 came out and had electric start. The 750 could be problematic to crank at times. I love them and either one would smoke a Sportster. So FU HD.

Not being pedantic, but, what's with the plastic hydraulic oil reservoirs for the brake and clutch on the Commando? It looks as if they forgot to design them into the lever assembly, " Hey Charlie, these bits were on the bench"... " Ooops, ah well, just stick 'em up there, no one will ever notice". The world as a whole is moving toward lower capacity bikes and anything thats not Japanese or Ducati wont sell in higher capacity bikes atleast easily. They should have gone the Royal enfield route. Should have started slowly with smaller bikes with good quality and orignal feel than progressed to larger capacity. BUt they went all out with a big budget. Why people get so excited about these bikes is beyond me when there are so many good modern machines available they appear over priced over rated and unproven a big gamble in my opinion so no thanks .

I guess the answer is that a lot of people are happy to see so many of the great old British bike names return, and the reto market is growing, lots of people simply don't want your modern tech laden bikes, there is a fondly felt nostalgia for our old bikes, but there is more than enough to go round, so ya pays ya money and takes ya choice 🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏻

@@kevindarkstar it’s seems with Norton you pay your money loose a fortune I rode Norton Commando in the 1970’s I much prefer my modern Africa Twin Dct but each to there own I’m not tempted by nostalgia!

Trouble is with a lot of the old British names reappearing, they're not British manufactured, they're either Chinese or Indian, not for me thanks.

Great job overall but an ugly rear end and exhaust profile.

Drop the 961, I had one and the engine is a dog! Sure it looks good but its performance is a loser plain ‘N simple. V4 is where it’s at Norton.

That 961 needs to go it’s been knocking about for years like a bad throw back to the 70’s. Then there’s a naked 185mph V4? Like most of the classic bike manufacturers they also include examples of their original machines on the stand just in case we have forgotten who they are? It’s these machines that contain the exact styling and design cues most of us really want to own minus a radiator and LCD display.

After Royal Enfield, BSA now Indians took Norton too. Why Indians are overtaking English auto companies 😂

Ah well ! there ya go hinkley your old rival has thrown down its gauntlet with a vee four,, and as you rest on your triple laurels your boat is sailing into the sunset ,,why oh why did you never see the virtues of the vee twin or even vee four ,,? with the manufacturing capabilities of a modern company ,plus the incredible quality at affordable prices seen so far from triumph, is the best engine configuration for a modern bike still " not a market hinkley would want to persue "? (folly)watch these nortons , learn, and repent at leisure.
