Consider it like “the artist formerly known as Prince” (I don’t listen to his genre but those who do and the industry say he does it well, and he was escaping a predatory system when he used that so I applaud his attempt to minimize confusion). Or those who say “the app formerly known as Twitter.” My neurodivergence didn’t work with Twitter but I respect the “hey remember when this was a tolerable internet community” angle We will acknowledge the many years a blue table was used for patterning and produced very little doom than made it through editing and it’s fame across CosTube and call whatever surface (even a hotel carpet if you end up like realizing you made a mistake on the pattern you, like Sharon Makes knitting 2 Christmas tours ago, thought you had correctly prepped to take on an adventure. Your back will certainly consider it the hotel carpet of doom). But we will just call it blue, and doom-y.

If you want blue, use wood DYE, not stain. You can basically use any cellulosic dye on wood. There are dyes specifically formulated for wood, but Procian will do the deed! Mix a large enough batch of course, and finish with a matte wipe-on poly to minimize reflections.

People make all sorts of compromises throughout life just to pay the bills, but after a lifetime of doing that I've come to the conclusion that if you can navigate through life without selling out, then don't. It's too high a price to pay. Any publisher with an ounce of sense would jump at the chance to publish a Bianca Esposito book on how to draft patterns. Hell, I'd be first in line to buy it! And so would thousands of your devoted followers. Their loss! I don't mind what colour your table ends up. Whatever colour gives you joy is the right colour 😊 Be happy, be yourself.

I love the navy color you chose for the new top so I'd say keep that. It doesn't read blue on camera, but no big deal for me really. Either way you go I just love your content so I'll be watching even if the table is purple and you call it the blue patterning table of doom.

With the fear of creating more problems than I may be solving, I'd like to let you know that you can mix stains to get a custom color, so long as they are the same kind (oil, gel, waterbased) and preferably from the same manufacturer. I had to mix a custom warm-brown for my best friend last year because everything we tried was too red or lifeless. Personally, what I would try to make a blue stain "more blue" is adding purple and/or green. Using a teaspoon, you can mix/test ratios. I'd also suggest using a gel stain rather than the oil-based one you've posted here. Oil-based stains are better suited for browns and yellows, especially over time.

This reminds me of a Dolly Parton story. In the 1970s, she was approached by Elvis, who wanted to sing her song “I Will Always Love You.” But Miss Dolly always has a rule: if she writes the song, she gets the royalties for it. Elvis wanted to buy the song outright: so, no royalties for Dolly. She said she couldn’t believe that she walked away from the project. Twenty or so years go by and Whitney Houston asked to sing the song and yes, would share royalties. And the rest we all know…. The thing is, you walked away because the deal wasn’t good. Which means there is a better deal coming.

I completely respect you not wanting to pour your heart and soul into a project that you were not passionate about, but I also understand where the editor was coming from. A step by step guide with a clearly defined outcome is much less intimidating for the average person than infinite possibilities. A book that did most of the hard creative thinking for people and simply sold a "look" would probably sell better than one that put the creative burden on the customer.

You could use dye and then a clear sealer rather than a wood stain. Since you did your tie dyeing adventures maybe you already have the blue you want on hand. There is an Instructable for using Procion MX dye on wood (Dyeing Wood by Ninzerbean) and RIT has an instruction page for dyeing wood and wicker. There is also a video here on KZbin by Wisco Workshop called "How To Make Vibrant Colors To Stain Wood" using dyes specifically formulated for wood.

@@amiehamilton1840 The Instructable with` the Procion dye does warn of fading but they also sealed it with beeswax. Since I would not recommend just sealing with beeswax for any work surface, that shouldn't be a problem, just use a UV blocking and hard wearing sealer (like one used for hardwood floors). I'm considering using dye when I eventually make my spinning wheel, I might get artistic and do a dyed design rather than a solid color.
@theplussizecostumer15 күн бұрын
Excellent idea! I suggested using paint and thinning it, but this will very probably work better.
@tephralynn15 күн бұрын
@@theplussizecostumer Thinning paint works well but is semi-opague so you lose the wood grain. It's nice if you want a more milk paint or white wash effect. It's fragile because of the thinning, so use a good sealer on that too. I will note that whatever you try, test it (with the sealer) on a scrap. I recently used a nice grey stain on some cabinets to give a wash effect and when I sealed it a lot of the lighter grey tones just vanished. The color is still pretty and will work for the project but I really wish I had tested what the sealer would do to the color before I used it on the cabinets.

You could simply call it, "the wooden patterning table of doom," or whatever moniker fits best. I'm just happy you're still doing your thing. Also, there's no shame in saying "no" when something isn't meant to be. The Magic Peacock Table, because of the large Peacock feather print fabric I have covering it.. and the reason for it being Magic, is because the results of my creative fugues have a whimsical magical appearance.. My old house is comfortably large and even though my work space is in the living room, There is still lots of room for my living room furniture.. Thus, I can still enjoy family visits while still in the middle of a fugue .. As for the other rooms of this old house is.. First, congrats on the move! Still sad I never got the courage or chance to ask to meet up while you were still close in Denver.. but stoked you're living out your dreams! Second, I'm glad you didn't budge on your book because what you want to do is very needed and I cannot wait until you find the right avenue. In 2023 I made my own wedding dress. I learned how to pattern draft after having only 2.5 years of apparel sewing experience from your videos. #audiovisuallearningstyle it took me 12 months to figure everything out and I found out so many new and powerful things. I'm short waisted! Who knew?! No wonder everything looked off with ready to wear. All of that and more from your videos, in the style that you already use, not someone else's. I made the dress of my dreams and I felt like a boss b***h doing it. I want to thank you for putting up all your videos because I couldn't have learned without you. Learning to draft for myself has completely changed the sewing game for me and made it even more enjoyable. Just wanted to share a slice of my big appreciation cake. Stick to your guns, as you always do. I look forward to the book when the time is right 🤘❤️.

I always thought that the “Blue Patterning Table of Doom” was a play on the “Blue Screen of Death” 😂 I think you made the right call about the book. You’ve gotta do what’s right for you - and from my limited knowledge, I’ve seen there’s about a million project books out there. A How-To for pattern drafting seems a lot less gimmicky, and a LOT more useful by more people! I hope the opportunity for that does present itself in the future.

Good on you for staying true to yourself and not taking that offer! I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and you have taught me how to pattern draft! I finally made my own slopers late last year thanks to your sloper videos and am embarking on sewing up my own wardrobe of garments. I’m 80% through a custom 1880s/1940s inspired mash up corset/shapewear I drafted from my slopers. I’m amazed at how well the pattern fitted straight off my green drafting table. Thank you for everything you’ve ever posted! Keep doing you! You don’t need to put in print what you’ve soo beautifully presented here on KZbin. Maybe do a wrap up video for people just finding you for the first time to direct them to the right playlists and videos?

I could go with any colour, it's always been the '...patterning table of doom' bit that I'm enamoured of! Lovely to see you Bianca, happy new year. ❤

i am so proud of you for standing strong for what you want your book to be. i don't really sew but i started watching you with my sister and i've learned so much from you, if you ever get to make the one you want i would be honored to get it. I saw someone in comments say its wood dye you want not stain if you missed it in there, and what ever color you end up deciding on it will always be the blue patterning table of doom

I totally agree with the decision that you made about the book - I think the beauty of what you do is its adaptability! I would snap up a pattern drafting book that you brought out, teaching us how to make the patterns we need for the clothes that we like to wear 🥰

As much as I dislike the color Navy, I have to say a dark blue table in a dark green room is not just mysterious and enchantingly cozy, it would work, but ultimately its your choice & you've prob already made it. Ours is blonde wood with a 5ft by 5ft gridded cutting mat. And I love it beyond words. Im excited for yours to come together. 😁

🎉🎉🎉 you are in the house. Sorry about the book deal. Even though we don't know each other, I am so happy for you. The table color doesn't matter to me. I will watch it no matter what.

Hi there, I’ve been experimenting with dying wood for furniture design school, and I found that leather dye works very well, as do higher quality powder dyes. Rit doesn’t work great, but MX Procion dye works well. For a green table I mixed a leather dye and fabric dye and applied it with a spray gun in water, drying it in between light layers. After it was dry, I coated it in a water based poly. It looks great.

You did the right thing turning down the book deal. What they wanted tells me that they hadn't watched many of your videos. Maybe we'll get the pattern drafting book one day, and hopefully you'll have your non-fiction published, bc that feeds your soul. Meanwhile, I'm excited to see videos about your new adventure in homeownership!

I'm so excited for you starting the next stage of your life! It's always fun getting to see a bit of the reasoning behind the madness, and your storytelling is really engaging and lovely to listen to. And now, we have the Blue-Stained-Grain Patterning Table of Doom :) Or whatever colour it ends up by the end of all the shenanigans. Would be neat as a green and black marbled mess of glitter but I'm not sure how practical it would be 😂 Looking forward to the next update where we deliberate further! And I'm sorry to hear that the book process never panned out; but it's fantastic that you're sticking to your guns and only doing what you really WANT to do. Here's to the projects to come! :D 🎉🎉🎉 💚💚💚💙💙💙

Green and black glitter would look amazing in resin. Maybe with a green or black background. Just saying.

Wallpaper removal tips for plaster(ours was a paper/paint/paper/paint sandwich.) 1. Get a garden sprayer to spray down the walls. 2. White scotchbrite pads for scrubbing adhesive 3. A scraper blade on an oscillating multi tool can get the stubborn stuff off. Plaster can handle a lot more moisture than drywall can. Don't be afraid to get it really wet while removing the paper.

Sounds like you did the absolute RIGHT thing! I would absolutely buy a pattern drafting book if you wrote it! Honestly you are the one who demystified the whole pattern drafting world for me! The way you explain things makes absolute sense in my brain and I love watching you draft as you explain! I have been Sewing for years, but never had the courage to do my own thing. This Christmas, I made myself my first dress off my own bought a black and I felt amazing! So thank you for sticking to your guns and what you know and do well❤ Blessings in 2025!

This exactly on demystifying pattern drafting. As a very tall woman who can never find clothes made for her, I was very excited to find your channel and you "teach a man to fish approach" I would 100% buy the book you want to make. Maybe you should self publish at your own pace. :)

Good for you and congratulations on the move at last!!! I confess I'd miss the classic Blue Patterning Table of Doom... However, I quite enjoy "The Red Patterning table of Dread", or "The Green Patterning Table that's Mean", lol... Make it any color that makes you smile 😊 We'll keep learning anyway!

Hi there, Congratulations on your new/old house. My significant other is a high-end boutique guitar maker and he uses universal tints to color the nitrocellulose lacquer he uses to spray his guitars He lent me his collection of tints to use with polyurathane when I was making my sewing table out of a butcher block counter top and hairpin legs. I mixed the tint with the poly in a spaghetti sauce jar, sanded, and brushed it on. My table looks fantastic. I do believe the entire set of tints can be expensive, but individual colors aren't necessarily that pricy. I'm looking forward to learn more about drafting patterns.

I want to validate you here. You and I do not have the same style at all. I am not a vintage girlie and I abhor high neck lines. But I have been able to make clothes that ARE my style from the things I've learned watching your videos!! I've never actually followed along and tried to make what you are making, but I always learn something new that I can apply to my own sewing. So thank you!

Good for you, I don’t know if I would’ve had the fortitude to stick to my guns. I agree that it’s so much better to teach patternmaking rather than just one particular item of clothing at a time. I have learned so much from watching your videos, the last item I made for myself with my mother of the bride dress, and it was spectacular because of everything I learned on your channel.

People who keep their integrity, even if it means saying no to something you want, are usually happier and more successful because their customers know they can be trusted. Well done! Having said that, I would love a pattern drafting book with the format you described. Hopefully a publisher will come along that will publish your drafting book AND your fiction! I love your title for the pattern drafting book. As for the table, as long as it is still called the Patterning Table of Doom, choose whatever color works for you. That is your space. BTW, nice mug! 🙂

Vinegar and hot water in a squirt bottle is what I used to remove wallpaper glue after ripping off the top layer of paper. My daughter purchased her grandmas house (my childhood home) and the last few months has started to paint and decorate it to her taste - her taste is goth … think Corpse Bride and gothic mixed with dark academia. Her 3 boys have been helping her DIY flooring, painting and everything. They are having a blast and she is happy. So I can’t wait to see what you do to your home. As for stains, make your own with thinned down paint. Then coat it with poly. This way you can pick a paint color in a blue you like and thin it out. I’ve done with with furniture before.

So good to see you in your new home! 🎉 So for the color as for the book: who cares what it is, as long as it relates to YOU! I would watch you with a green patterning table of doom and read any book, fiction or non-fiction with your name on it! And honestly, I love your integrity on the book deal - your idea for the book sounds so much more useful to me!! Maybe they'll come to their senses, I would love to have that book....

You are amazing and inspiring as always. I’m sure your dream of being published will happen. In 2024 I drafted my first pattern from my own measurements rather than using a commercial pattern for the first time and it’s all thanks to your content. Love your channel! Looking forward to future content.

A lavender stained table would be cool as an alternative but alas it may have the same problem of reading as lavender on camera. Also, I know this channel is more about sewing but I would love love love to see your house remodel, if you feel ok sharing that journey with us. And of course you made the right decision, in spite of trying to make it work by moving the brief closer to a vision you would be happier with. I’m sure it was a tough decision to make, as the right ones usually are, but often it’s also a relief when it’s all said and done.
