Two seasons ago, Arsenal were playing brilliant attacking football and they had a perfectly balanced midfield and they didn’t have any issues scoring goals. They’re defence was also rock solid too. By March 2023, they were 8 points clear at the top. Then Salibas injury occured and Arsenals whole back line fell apart and as a result, that scarred Arteta forever and he kept focusing on defending and playing not to lose rather and relying on set pieces.

What's killing them is they convinced themselves that their previous 2 seasons were the norm, all players firing and minimal injuries. Ontop of that this is the 1st time City has slipped up, they thought that would mean it's their title but Liverpool, with an improved midfield and greater defensive stability are playing at a normal Man City pace and thus look favourites to win this year. And be real here, it could be another 5-6 years before City slip up like this again. Arsenal fans are just starting to learn what Liverpool did. They lost 2 titles by a single point with FAR greater totals than Arsenal have yet achieved. It's fine margins at the very top.

As a neutral, Arsenal should have been primed to slip past City as they stumbled. Instead, they have gone quiet, dropping points and have been creatively poor. It looks to me that Arteta, similarly to Pep, his former mentor, likes to keep his team quite small and tight. He doesn't rotate his favs or players he trusts much. And despite most ppl seeing the one glaring gap, he has resisted for 3 seasons an acknowledged striker. And now, teams around them have continued to grow and refresh, and his Arsenal team haven't much.

Odegaard is our only true attacking midfielder (bar maybe Nwaneri), selling ESR and loaning Viera felt strange at the time but even more so now. Saka is our only truly creative winger, Martinelli and Trossard simply aren't consistent enough. Dont even need to mention our strikers. Honestly id be happy with finishing in the top 4 and nothing more this season, IF in the summer we sign a back up to Ode, an exciting LW and a world class striker. If we do that, i find it hard to picture many weaknesses in our team. It is a very big IF though..

I love Arteta, he has done wonders for the club…. Arsenal have been terribly unlucky with injuries, this is simply a fact…. HOWEVER…..a lot the problems we have right now are down to COACHING…. Our biggest problem, isn’t signing an additional 2 forwards which we DO need, it’s the coaching to caution and control…. We are the second best at winning the ball high in the PL BUT 14th on the conversion of those high turnovers into goals. It’s because we are terrible in transition, instead of moving forward at pace to hurt the opposition, whilst they are out of shape we close space and take the ball to feet. It’s infuriating to watch and this is a coaching problem and therefore an Arteta problem, I hope for Mikel ‘s sake he sees this and makes the changes and adds a little more transition capability….

On top of that Arsenal haven’t replaced Xhaka properly which has made the left side of their attack worse than two years ago. So when the right isn’t clicking (because of the above injuries) like they did last season, they can’t rely on the left to make up for it. Arsenal aren't the same team they were last year because they have had injuries to Odegard, Saka and White. For the last 2 seasons we have been a strong, solid team that is devastating in attack down the right hand flank due to the interplay between those 3 players. If two of them are missing (as has been the case most of the season) we just aren't as good going forward. With all three we are deadly, with 2/3 we are good enough, with only one of them we start to struggle. The transfers were no ideal, but we couldn't get who we wanted. We wanted Zubemendi, he still doesn't want to leave Sociedad. We wanted Sesko, he didn't want to leave and signed a new contract. I think we were also very interested in Nico Williams but he again didn't want to leave. Ultimately, Arsenal just aren't prepared to go "Well, we didn't get who we really wanted, lets just spend 70mil on someone for the fuck of it who isn't a good fit but at least we can say we spent something" cos thats how you end up like Manchester United, with a team that doesn't function and absolutely no room to manovere on FFP. How are Artetas Arsenal different from Pochettinos Spurs based on calibre set-up strengths and bottle jobing..?? Both teams are based upon defensive solidity (Lloris Toby Vertog & Raya Saliba Gabriel)and a world class attack pair (Kane-son & Saka-Odegard) and a strong def mid ball winner (Moussa Dem & Rice)

Selling Emile Smith Rowe was a big mistake. Then one month after odegaard got injured. Bought injury prone defenders. Sets up the team wierdly, partry at right back. Wasted money on sterling. Dont know how many idiotic decisions this man arteta is gonna take. Edu saved himself by going out of the club as it seems now that arteta was wholly responsible for those transfers which have come back to arsenal fc to haunt this season

@@willtallis5275 The Havertz signing is the confusing one. Jesus was brilliant until he got injured, Trossard is a squad player and Sterling was a loan to appease moaning fans. Until we sign a world class winger and striker we won't win the league.

@ParnhamT2 күн бұрын
It's simple really. Pretty much all of our attacking players are out of form at the moment and all at the same time, barring Saka who is injured. Odegaard hasn't been the same since his injury, he hasn't been as creative, has lost the ball too many times and his shooting has been nothing like it was before. Martinelli and Trossard who both at some point had a fair few goals in them however lately their confidence seems very low and they aren't really contributing much on the wings and not taking players on. Havertz has struggled to score recently, I don't think he has always been the most confident in front of goal but things just aren't happening for him. Jesus doesn't play often but before his few goals recently he would try to hold onto the ball too much and be a bit selfish. We also do not really have a bench full of impact attackers, Merino hasn't really been amazing since we bought him, we have one replacement winger in sterling who hasn't really been able to get going. Basically our whole attack is flat and we don't have enough squad depth to change that. People keep saying we are full of injuries but how many of those injured players really make it into the first team

What's the confusion? Arteta. (SouthArtetagate) has been shocking and now it's becoming more obvious just how abysmal he is. It's not about not having players it's about a manager who can simply put the right players in their right positions and get on with it. You have to see nothing more than the obsession to put a quality midfielder Partey at fback. It's utterly stupid but Arteta will go to his grave to prove that it will work - never did, never does, never will.

We Arsenal fans aren’t overreacting. We are tired of a manager who’s hell bent on spending money on other clubs’ rejects in departments that don’t need further improvements. Imagine having 70% possessions, with 3.6 xG and still losing the game 2-0. It’s clear where our problems lie but watch Farteta buy more back defenders..
