G'day fellow cocoa enthusiasts! I hope you enjoy my reaction/commentary to 'A time to Kill'. I went into this movie completely blind and I wasn't expecting it to be so hard-hitting. I apologise too in advance for some of the audio quality from my mic as there is some ringing sounds throughout.
I would also like to thank everyone watching my previous videos for all the love and encouragement. This is very new to me and all the support is extremely helpful. Thank you also to all my recent subscribers (everyone subscribed so far) we exceeded 100 subs within a week which is insane!!! Couldn't have done it without such a warm and supportive fanbase.

this movie is my favorite adaptation of a John Grisham novel. i read the book when i was 16 and it was a horrible but formative experience for me. it wrecked me then and it wrecks me to this day. and i promise you, there are people who lose the right to our empathy the second they do something this horrific to anyone, let alone a child. there's a limit to the evil empathy can reach. people like this made their beds, and now they can lie in it cold and alone.

It’s always amazing to me how otherwise loving, caring, deeply generous people, have nonsensical racist opinions. I’ve seen it with people I know that I love, and I hear crazy things come out of their mouth. The U.S. still has an intense racism problem. Its part of the deep fabric of this country and it may never go away.

John Grisham, who wrote the story, has written so many great legal dramas. This one though, I have to say, was the hardest movie to watch. Right now in America, there is such a rise in white nationalism that these kinds of people are flourishing after Trump became president, and watching this movie and seeing the openness with which these people declare their hatred and cruelty is triggering. I am glad you showed this movie, and your reactions, Oscar were just spot on.
@brianjones8432
@brianjones8432 Жыл бұрын
What a nonsensical statement. Just so you know, the legal case Grisham based this on was completely race reversed. The girl(s) were white, the perpetrator was black. There is no "rise of white nationalism" in this country. That sentiment has shrunk to practical nonexistence in the U.S. This is you projecting your political bias. Also, to be factual, minorities did better under Trump and directly benefitted from his policy, hence why his minority voters increased in his second election. Please stop perpetuating lies and being divisive.🙄

@cindernaz I wouldn't say it was a huge role for him. He played second banana and was kind of comedy relief at times, and the franchise had dropped a little bit. And it was a Bruce Wilis action vehicle. No one was expecting much from him and no one came there to see him act. A Time to Kill is a Grisham movie and Grisham has a reputation for making great courtroom dramas and the film attracted people looking for good acting. People knew Jackson could act but hadn't seen most of his work except Pulp Fiction

It is always good to see people in such a film for whom the injustice is just as unbearable as it is for oneself. Such reactions also give hope for humanity despite all the abysses that such films reveal. I recommend for the future the film "Higher Learning" (1995), which is by the way also very well suitable to understand both perspectives, thus also the wrong one, which remains wrong despite all understanding of course!

From what I remember, I think they filmed it over in South Carolina. Living in the deep South, here in Savannah ( GA.), it's always interesting to see who can pull off a Southern accent lol. This movie was just full of great actors. Btw- Kevin Spacey, he actually made a movie right here yrs later. It was about a murder case. He can do a Southern accent very well. 😊

I hate that so many reactors won't react to this and other movies like it because they don't want to deal with the negative emotions, aka racism, they want to "have a good time". Life is full of both positive and negative emotions, so kudos to you for dealing with the gut punch. That last line in the courtroom is so true, even today, a lot of white Americans couldn't care less or will at least sweep stuff under the rug when it doesn't concern their people, but when it does they're all in. If you're interested, another great legal drama is 12 Angry Men, which way more people react to it doesn't deal with racism, but rather xenophobia, but everyone is white so it's tolerable to them I guess.

This movie deals with southern racist thought. The KKK mentality, 'good old boys '. The mental process was Jesus was white, Christianity was white, and every other colored person were worth less in God's eyes. 'The way things should be' were the white man in control and women and other races submitting, as it's been done for hundreds of years. 'Good old boy' is a southern white guy who is nice to his grandma and went to church now and then. The rest of his actions were between God and him

You tell a heart-rending vivid account of the gang r*pe of a little girl...without mentioning her race. They, or course, are imagining their own daughters, nieces, granddaughters; neighbors' kids... "Now imagine that she's white." Bang!! They were in the head of the outraged, grieving father!

Such a good movie, it's a hard watch but it's a good movie. A bit controversial because the true crime that inspired it was actually 2 young white girls being raped by a black man. Grisham wondered what would have happened if the father had taken matters into his own hands instead of waiting for a trial.
