Fun fact: Lisa Kudrow is really good at playing Ursula because she actually played her first! Ursula was a character on another NBC sitcom called Mad About You, which started airing before Friends in 1992 and was also set in New York. When Kudrow was later cast in Friends, the producers decided to make her the twin sister of her other character so that the two sitcoms could cross over with each other. As well as the characters crossing over, the blackout in Friends Season 1 was also canonically caused by a character in an episode of Mad About You - the two episodes aired on the same night!

They were surprised to see her and thought that she was working at Central Perk rather than Riff’s, the restaurant she works at in MAY. They then confirm (in their minds) that she’s ‘Ursula’ when Phoebe walks off without getting their orders, because Ursula was a notoriously bad/lazy waitress.

Season 7 is probably the most “hang out” season of the series. There’s not a lot of drama or huge character developments. But there’s enough overall entertaining episodes to make it worthwhile.

I think I like it for that reason. It’s not he best season, but it’s nice to have a breather because the few seasons prior to this are wall to wall drama and the storylines move pretty rapidly, so it’s cool that they slowed things down for a bit.

As someone on the other side of 30 (and 40), my experience is that those milestone birthdays are a bigger deal in anticipation than they are in reality. I remember the day before my 30th birthday being super aware that it was the last day of my 20's. But then the next day came and I was just a day older. It's really not the big deal we can sometimes make it out to be. And as far as not being where we think we should be, or not having achieved what we wanted to, that's also a matter of framing. In Rachel's case, think of the life she imagined for herself before the series started. What she has now is soooooo much better than what she thought she wanted, and where she imagined she would be by this point. I'm a person who also hasn't achieved a lot of the basic milestones I just always assumed I would. But my life is full of so much richness that would have been beyond my imagination 20 years ago.

Also, as a sister, I understand your heart in leaving this message, but it kind of feels like a stranger just coming in and yelling at me apropos of nothing. It's kind of off-putting, and this is coming from someone who agrees with your message in general. Just something to consider as you go forward. Jack Geller is actually a great dad to Monica. He always shows her compassion and love. However, Monica's mother is very critical of her. The reason for this can be found in the episode where Judy's mum dies. Apparently, her mum used to be very critical of her, so Judy just automatically passes that on to her own daughter. Doesn't excuse it though, but it is the reason.

It doesn't feel like that when you're in the middle of it, but once you hit 40 it's like damn, how did I get here so fast? Life is far too short and so little of it is youthful. Take the time to appreciate where you are.

I always looked forward to my 30's. In your 20's your still "a kid" and when you hit 40, you have a midlife crisis so I figured your 30's should be your golden years. @17:29 Honestly this is true lol I'm 31 and still in college (struggling but I chuggin along lol) and it doesnt feel like I'm as far along as my friends, one of whol is a medical professional in laboratory testing, and shes only a month older than I am lol But in reality there is no ONE way to be successful. Success is moreso being happy with how much you have progressed already, not so much what you still have ahead of you. I found that looking at it that way makes you feel a little better. It's not "what else should I accomplish", its more of a "how much have I grown to get HERE?"

I'm 31 (will be 32 in February) and I have no goals or plans (or plah as Phoebe would say) and have no idea what I'm doing. I haven't even been able to work or finish school because of my poor mental health (and physical tbh). Not to get even more deep but Phoebe's storyline in E13 hits hard because I've been where the Earl character was. I actually tried several times. I know they had to make it funny too but I like how they still weren't just making insensitive jokes and were actually quite respectful, since this is a very serious topic. Fortunately I have people in my life that do care but not all of them understand how hard it is. Sometimes just getting out of bed is extremely difficult. But back to the show and that storyline actually. I love when Phoebe shows her compassion and empathy. At least in the earlier seasons she was what is called an empath, and we still get a glimpse of that, like in E13. It's been established her mum did indeed kill herself (the one who raised her, not her birthmother). But there's a slight continuity error because Phoebe doesn't know her birth year or middle name since her mum died when she was so young. However, it has been said many times that her mum died when she was a teenager so it's very unrealistic that she wouldn't know by that age. All of their ages are inconsistent in E14 and throughout the show though. I completely agree with everything you said about Ross as well. Everyone has both good and bad sides to them. (Sidenote: I'm always reminded of Harry Potter and both Dumbledore & Sirius telling Harry that everyone has good and bad to them but what matters is which we choose to follow). But if you are able to care about other people and have empathy you're a good person. Ross's ego IS huge (a lot thanks to his and Monica's parents) but he can put that aside when he needs/wants to and just be a good brother/friend. Chandler is also a good friend. Fun fact: Earl is played by Jason Alexander who indeed was in Seinfeld. He also appeared on the show Malcolm in the Middle as a character who coincidentally sold toner over the phone. Funny story: Rosita was a fake name I gave myself when I was younger and I didn't remember where I got it from until I watched E13 a few years ago and was like "is that where I got it from?" 🤣

This episode actually retcons Rachel's age from the first season, which is implied to be 26. However, I think this is a retcon that makes more sense, because it now means that she was 24 in the first season, which fits her character better. Here's what I mean: it's pretty well established that Rachel was on the same path as her mother: "I went from my father's house, to the sorority house, to my husband's house!" It makes more sense that Rachel would get married very soon after college, plus this episode confirms that she would need to know her future husband for a year before getting engaged, and that she would need a year to plan the wedding. So if she graduated at 22, that'd be more than enough time to meet Barry and arrange their wedding.

Yeah, I personally am not much of a birthday person in general, it’s in a time of year where the weather is ideal at every part of the country and they jam plans anyway possible to fill of the month I was born in, so I had a few birthday parties but was turned down by some because plans were made. I also have to deal with a holiday celebration that week and other events, at the end I just want the month to be over. Was just thankful that I just went out to each with immediate family after dealing with the lockdowns in our country. Btw I feel like those lockdowns robbed us a few years!

30 didn't bother me really at all... I'm hitting 40 in January and have suddenly become aware of all the things i haven't accomplished... but at the same time, i could make a sizable list of all the things i have accomplished that i never eat thought to dream of. The trick is to be happy as happy as you can in the life you didn't necessarily know you wanted.

Not trying to be that person, but the amount of "plot holes" in that 30 episode is insane, Rachel was already 28 in season 3 the 3RD SEASON and only in season 7 she turns 30, Joey was supposed to be younger than Chandler and be the youngest one, be now he's older than Chandler and everyone else except for Phoebe, Ross spent 4 seasons being 29 years old and only in season 5 he turned 30, and he was really sad and depressed because of the divorce with Emily and being evicted and losing his job(remember how he was on a rampage in that season losing his mind everytime) but here he looks so happy turning 30 and buying a sports car(????)also Monica and Chandler are already together in these flashbacks of them all turning 30, while they were still hiding their relationship when the rest of the friends were supposed to be 30, I love friends but there's a lot of errors that mak

I always thought Monica was her father’s favorite though. It’s implied he was not very present before because well, old times, he was working while the mom stayed at home (and they are pretty well off, considering). The mom definitely projects her own mom-daughter issues to Monica and favors Ross. The dad goes along often enough, but there has been cute scenes between him and Monica and I feel he has a soft spot for her. At the top of my head, when she has insomnia after she breaks up with Richard, he goes there to check on her and she finally sleeps after he tells her Richard was devastated, and he stays there and covers her. He calls her Harmonica, which is sweet, and seemed to be an average if not a bit absent dad, which is usual, especially in the 70s and 80s. Not paying for the wedding I think it was more the mom’s influence in her thinking Monica would never marry.

And also the 6 or 7 easy bake ovens he mentions, i can't imagine the mom being all for that. He probably bought those for her. Plus she seemed to have as many, if not more, boxes than Ross in the garage as well. And we know most of Ross' boxes probably were the awards and plaques he talks about. And with the dynamic in this episode it really does look like Monica could be dad's favorite and little Ross felt like he had to be good at school and everything to have some attention from him (hence why he reads his report card when he feels like his dad is focusing on Monica instead of him)

I totally understand how you can relate to the aging thing. I'm 26 (going to be 27 in February ahhhh!) and at times I feel kinda weird about it. Sometimes, I feel like I'm not where I should be, but I remind myself how happy I am now and how proud I am of my growth. I also have luckily found my life partner, so one really important thing for me is accomplished. We plan on having children within the next 3ish years and are getting married in August 2025. :) Anyways, thanks for sharing your experience. That's how I was, no issues at all. I loved turning 30. I had achieved all my goals, that I wanted to achieve by 30, by 28 and so turning 30 2 years after felt amazing!! Now going on 40 I feel anxious 🤣
