Wow. I am absolutely blown away and humbled. Thank you so much for the kind words and for truly seeing my message and what I’m about. I just want the gym to be a safer and better place for EVERYONE, period. I’m so grateful for all the support from everyone and I know the videos I’ve done have truly made a difference and helped so many. Thank you again.

You don't need the gym. Start off walking 1/2 a mile, then 1, 2, 5. Once your stamina increases, switch to jogging. Same time increase, like 5 min, then 10, then 30+. There's a jogging technique, where once you are able to jog for 30+ minutes easily, you could cut it back to just once a week, for 30+ minutes. I've done it. Do jumping jacks, pushups, situps. Met a guy in the 90's when I was deployed to Abu Dhabi, UAE. He was a buffed dude, not ripped like Joey Swoll. He told me all he does is pushups, jumping jacks, situps at home. Incorporate weights as you get stronger.

It is scary going to the gym in the beginning especially if one does not how to use the machines, proper form, gym etiquette . There isn't really a book on the subject, but KZbin and other line venues do help a lot. Glad you got over your gym fright and are working out. Nothing more satisfying than having a good workout regardless of where one is on their fitness journey.

I think the reports said he tried to attack another woman the next day in her apartment. Same apartment complex. Seems like he was a full-blown predator. When people say "gym creep", there would often be an assumption of someone hanging out to get a look or to try an approach. I couldn't get enough specifics to tell if this was a crazy person where the gym was incidental. The other incidents seem to be about gym etiquette. This one seems more like a reason to carry mace. and a switchblade.

Note to women who want to take self defence classes also: You fight to create an OPENING so you can RUN. You don't take them so you can draw blood and fight them like that. Worked security for 30 years and taught martial arts for 10 years. Taught my daughter a thing or two. She used to complain that it wasn't fair in training when I struck her. Tried explaining that in a real fight you're going to get hit and if you get hit in a real situation it won't bother you as much, and you can recover quickly and take advantage. Four years later someone tried to take advantage of her, and although she got struck multiple times, she defended herself and escaped. So proud of her

As a woman, I never thought the day would come where women made the gym uncomfortable - not only for men - but for other women as well. In a world where everyone has a camera and/or no common sense, I don't ever want to be in a public place let alone a gym where men are afraid to approach me because they think I'll shame them or misunderstand a kind gesture. And people wonder why people are selfish, unkind, and generally unhelpful.

A nice girl I had made friends with in class invited me to go to her gym with her. she would make the nastiest comments about other people there. I was shocked. I like the gym, but I go during the least busy hours. You see the most bizarre, rude stuff sometimes at the gym. I think the biggest problem at gyms, and society in general, is rude, narcissistic people. A lot of the younger people don't put weights away, and just act obnoxiously. That's why I love going right after lunch, it's almost empty, and it's just me and a few older people. Late night is less busy too, but you get douchey high school kids coming in sometimes at those hours.

A gym is actually a perfect place to do that ... and the real reason it is "terrifying" is because YOU NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND DIDNT PREPARE! If you don't know the person and they clearly don't have access to certain places for whatever reason, do not give them access. If they ask you for access tell them they need to get the building manager or whatever would be the applicable person to go to for access of they indeed should have access to that area. This especially applies if you're alone. Doesn't just go for women, but men too. You don't know if they have a weapon in them or what their intentions are. 💯

At the gym I go to, they have a rule that says that you aren't allowed to open the door for anyone. If you do, you can lose your membership. Now, of course, there are some exceptions, like if someone forgot their key fob or the thing isn't working because of the weather or something, and we saw them there frequently, then we'll let them in and they'll call the owner to let them know, so the person who let them in doesn't get in trouble. (The staff is only there in the evening) But other than that, we try to avoid letting anyone in, especially if we've never seen them before.

You know how bad the gym culture has become when instead of focusing on your workout you have to focus on not looking at anyone. Which in a way is absurd, because gym people are usually sticking together and helping each other out. So being aware of your surroundings can help you and others from getting injured. That being said, Joey is the man I wish all gyms would have as manager. He's fair and supportive of people who just want to improve or maintain their health.

Gonna be harsh but if your faith on anything is so fragile that it crumbles based purely off internet comments and what you see solely online.........then it probably wasn't even needed or well intentioned in the first place. From personal experience I've seen that what is online hardly if ever is reflective of the real world for the most part.

Also yea.....there is always those who aren't gonna be good people. You give them too much credit and attention by watching their presence online. Again there's a reason this stuff mainly exists online. It hardly reflects how most people are or what typically happens on a day to day basis. The ones who mind their own business, don't care or have similar views don't nt get attention cause they are doing just that. Minding their business. Those that aren't are the minority. They just are loud and have online presences. You're giving them what they want. Also giving up so easily.....like I said that is just as much a bigger insult to humanity. Just as much as you think these people against joey are. You need a little self reflection and just get off line a bit. It helps trust me
