By this logic, extremely tall customers should be entitled to have the seat in front of them removed so they have extra leg space. I haven't seen that happening on any airlines yet.

Saw an article/ or news story not long ago about some planes were having seats removed so tall people have leg room. I think they were located by the exits on the wings. They also stated that it was an additional safety feature for easier egress.

@@jsstars1 On American Airlines' flights, they have exit row seats, but you have to pay extra for it. You also have "premium" seats where you can also pay extra for several more inches of legroom, plus some additional benefits (e.g. free alcoholic drink(s)). But you have to pay extra.

The funny thing is as absurd as this sounds, it actually has more merit than the fat person policy. This is because tall people have no choice about their height. It's just genetics. Fat people choose to be fat.

@@redwall1521 Yup, I am a tall person who always pays extra for the exit row seats. Maybe I should just get Tiktok and make a video about how airlines are discriminating against tall people, and then I can get the exit row seat for free, and make everyone else pay the difference!

That’s the irony: they took pride in being the way they are but at the same time they began to realize how much they’re falling off what is standard normal that generally doesn’t need to be asked for and because of the state they put themselves in they have to keep asking for something that normally not even needing to be asked. Like asthma people know there’s something wrong with them not the air when they cannot breathe air when air is literally an infinite resource and everyone else can breathe in normally

Either pay for the extra seat or don't go. If you're the weight of two adult people, you should have to pay for two adult passengers. I've flown internationally. @@Alison2436 If the customer is bothering other people having the option to pay for extra legroom, then yes, they should be forced to pay for that extra legroom. If the customer isn't bothering anyone and is dealing with the fact that their legs are getting crushed, then no, they shouldn't. Perhaps made aware of the fact that they can pay for extra legroom, but not forced to since they aren't bothering anyone. Also, if you have the time to record someone manspreading, or talk about it later in TikTok, you also have the time to act/complain in the moment. Perhaps it didn't happen to her and was watching it from some seats apart, but if she had the empathy to feel bad for the other person as she might have depicted herself in her TikTok, she should have had the empathy in the moment to help the person that was being put in an uncomfortable situation by a guy manspreading. Call a flight attendant and explain the situation. Pretty easy. If that TikTok girl did act and got the issue taken care of, or if it didn't happen to her and the person whom had to go through it did act and get the issue taken care of, then that's it, it's common sense that someone shouldn't be forced to pay for extra legroom or seats if they aren't bothering anyone and dealing with the fact that they will most likely travel quite uncomfortably. If they are bothering other people, then pay for extra legroom/seats, stop bothering people or get off the plane.

Yes someone is bumped from the flight. Recently my sister and her family enjoyed a family cruise. They planned this for over a year. Booked flights six months out. After their vacation, they were taken from the cruise ship to the airport to head home. They were on a cruise ship so they were not able to do the pre check in so they checked in when they arrived to the airport two hours before their flight. When they went to board...MY SISTER WAS BUMPED from the flight. Why? Because a larger bodied passenger needed her seat. For free. So my sister and her whole family had to miss their flight and catch a flight 4 hours later. They were told it was because that passenger did pre check and requested the extra seat before they checked in. And it's first come first serve. How is this fair?! They paid for their ticket six months earlier!

If we’re going to do this, I think it needs to be treated kind of like a handicap placard. A doctor has to sign off that you are overweight for reasons out of your control. If you have a doctors sign off, you have to contact the airline in advance to get a free extra seat. You can’t do it at the gate and get someone else kicked off the flight. If you don’t have anything from a doctor, you have to pay for an extra seat yourself in advance.

@@MF13024 some medicine can actually affect a persons metabolism severely enough, so that it is almost impossible to lose weight, while still eating enough food to get your daily nutricions. There is medicine for low metabolism, however it can and will conflict with other combinations of medicine, so it is not always possible to use that. This means it is extremaly easy to slowly gain weight over time and not be able to lose even while being physically active.

I agree with this! I know I don't represent everyone with hormonal imbalance, but the thing is I'm overweight, but I don't think I'm at the point of needing a whole extra seat, so I find it hard to believe that a medical condition could really cause you to be that overweight in the first place. I very well may be wrong, and of course there are extremely rare conditions like Prader Willi, that might lead to severe obesity, but for most people, even with hormone imbalances it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

I'm (diagnosed) autistic with social anxiety and touch defensiveness. In the 2000s to early 2010s I had a job the required a lot of jet travel. I always paid for a second seat to accommodate my needs. As many times as not--if not more often than not--flight attendants put people into my second seat. My protests that I paid for the seat to accommodate my social anxiety and touch defensiveness were irrelevant to flight attendants. They had overbooked flights--there was an empty seat. Trying to get refunds from the airlines went exactly as you'd think. So, this kinda burns me up.

In 1997 I got on a Southwest flight. I had spent five days with my ADHD mother in San Francisco and I was exhausted. I lay across three seats, cinched up the seat belt and I was asleep before the plane left the ground. I woke up when the plane began it's descent into Dallas and I found, like three sodas and fifteen snacks curled up against me. One of the three passengers, a woman, explained "We told the stewardess that you were military coming back from overseas and bribed her into giving you all those treats" (I was wearing an overshirt with my unit decal as I had recently left the military). I thanked them for their consideration.

I’m overweight and considered obese but I fit in one seat just fine. I don’t weigh anywhere near what Jae Bae does. She also made a video with complaints about hotels not having wide enough halls and demands robes that are up to 6X in every room which is her size and that everyone should be able to have one that fits them. I understand why some people are upset but I think the issue here is airline and their small seats. I am a bigger guy 6’2” in height and I am on the heavier side. When I fly I try to book business class which is comfortable just for the reason the seats are normal size. The general cabin seats I fit, seat belt buckles no issues but my shoulders are so broad I rub against the person next to me. If I’m flying with family or significant other not an issues but with a stranger I feel uncomfortable and they do to. Make the seats a little wider and this won’t be an issue. If you are so big that you definitely require 2 seats maybe offer a discount for the second seat. Don’t bump people off flights.

Airline pricing should absolutely be based on weight of cargo. You and your bags. The lighter you are, the less fuel you are forcing the plane to burn. Very simple, I mean how much higher MPG does a truck get, just driving, vs towing a trailer with cargo. A 180lb man with 90lbs of bags should get charged the exact same as a 270lb man with no bags. It’s not like the plane can tell the difference. It’s still going through the same mechanical stress, still needs all that fuel, all the ground grew working on it, etc, etc.

So if they end up on a small plane I wonder if they will just demand the entire plane to themselves? How about demanding to be fed on their flights because of being hungry and the small bag of peanuts isn’t sufficient? First class gets food and I’m waiting to see if I or someone else in that section will get kicked off so they can have my seat and my food? How about taking responsibility for your actions such as your weight? I’m obese and I will admit it but I would never demand someone else’s seat if I was that large which I’m not anywhere near it. I’m 170 pounds and short. I take responsibility for my own actions. There is only 1 thing that I get special treatment for and it’s by law. I have an extra carry on but it’s full of medical equipment and a bag of IV fluid, an IV pump, and IV meds so they have to accept it by law but I also know my bags and I will be searched to death. When we flew back from LAX to Daytona Beach my bags were x rayed multiple times as I was also x rayed, frisked, tested for bomb and illegal drug residue more than once. My bag of IV fluids was also tested by wiping the bag for residue. I knew what I had to do to make sure I would be allowed to fly with everything. After about 10 minutes of searching, frisking, nuking my bags and me I was allowed to proceed. Was I upset or insulted??? Nope. Not at all. They had a job to do and I knew we were safe on the plane. Jae Bae is in her 20’s and needs oxygen. I was on oxygen in my late 30’s but it wasn’t due to my weight. It was because I have CVID that caused me to have pneumonia numerous times causing lung damage. I also lost about 70 pounds when I almost died from sepsis and when I stopped a medication making me gain so much weight and I thankfully never got that big again at 220 pounds. Now I’m 160’s-170’s. This girl seems proud to be that large and demanding special treatment and if not it’s discrimination. Antisemitism is discrimination. More rights for whites and less rights for African Americans is discrimination and so on. She is crazy!

Its ridiculous. I agree that airlines could do more to suit the needs of obese people but not like this. Maybe their could be a form of id showing that you are overweight, when you book your ticket you can receive a discount on an extra seat if you show your id and if one is available. And there were metions when it is mandatory to buy and inform the airline about extra seat tickets such as "oversized passenger" and "valuble or oversized cargo" (i've seen one guy few times flying with cello or double bass, Jazz band of 4 was always bying 5 tickets). They have to buy "EXT ticket". If you didn't you wouldn't get on the plane. The only passengers that don't have to pay for extra tickets are caretakers of severly disabled passengers but airlines MUST be informed within specified time frame (i think it was 7 days, but i'm not sure if i remember correctly). There was simply no negotiations. Granted it was rare but everyone affected already knew everyting before their travel

I dont think airlines should give a free extra seat for bigger people, but they SHOULD in general make their seats more spacious with more leg room!

You bring up a good point. Airlines could offer large seats, say two instead of three in a row. Charge extra for them and let the plus-sized or whoever buy them.

@@Inkling777 Aren't those just the premium economy/business class seats? Those are usually larger, 2 seat rows instead of 3.

The only "weight issue" I had when flying was a number of years ago. I (6'2" 220 lbs at the time) was flying in a small commuter plane, think twin turbo propeller, 20 passengers max. When I approached the plane, the copilot looked me over and asked if I can sit in the back of the cabin. I assume for a bit of counter weight.

A note on the bag weight thing... That's actually because of OSHA safety requirements. If your bag is over a certain weight, it requires 2 people to lift it, thus the extra cost. It's got nothing to do with the plane's ability to take off, otherwise they'd be... weighing the passengers!

I am a 390 pound man and I can say without a doubt that this crap is embarrassing as hell. If I have a problem with paying for a second seat....maybe I should drop the junk food and stop drinking pop. Do not reward these idiots for terrible life choices.

At my university, we started a research project on an AI that would scan people and guess their weight. Depending on weight they would get discounts on flight tickets or get the opportunity to get extra weight in their luggage. If the person is overweight then they would be charged more

I was once on a flight. I had a nice seat, a window seat. There were two other people next to me. A plus sized person then boarded. A flight attendant came up to our row and said "this woman is plus sized and needs more space, may we move your seats so she may have this row and fit more comfortably?" The two other people just sat there and started packing up their things. I then said "gentleman, no need to pack up." And proceeded with "no. I'm not going to move the seat that I PAID FOR, am comfortable in, and am situated in. It's not my fault she decided to be unhealthy and think she deserves special treatment just because she is fat. Politely, either go somewhere else, or just get her in the next flight. Another option is YOU CAN HAVE HER PAY FOR MORE SEATS IN ADVANCE." The fat lady then started crying and said "we asked nicely though!" And I said "I don't care. I'm not giving up my seat. Same thing as 'i apologized, you need to forgive me' I don't have to forgive you, I don't have to give you my seat. So just screw off, go find a gym for all I care." I know I came off as rude, but if somebody is going to be that snobby, then no.

I’m a big girl, and 5’11” on top of that. I’ve never taken “over” anyone’s seat space, or had to buy an extra seat. However, if I was that large, it’s MY responsibility to pay for that space. We all pay for the same amount of space. if I’m pushing into someone else, it’s my fault and I should pay for that. No one is force feeding you girl, don’t embarrass us fat girls🙄
