Sad life, he was a great athlete, a famous excellent singer and a nice guy. He lived a long productive life. I worked in a place where he did several concerts - He treated everyone with kindness and respect. A real gentleman.

It was not a sad life nor tragic ending. He is in the CM hall of fame and reached the highest echelon of country musicians as a black guy in the 60's and 70's. His life was amazing. He died in his late 80's. That is a good life by any standard.

One fine gentleman who I could listen to his songs every day. He over comed many challenges from a noble background of the slave trade. Thank god he became a musician, an excellent performer, especially entertaining all nationalities worldwide proud of his roots, making country music for all generations to come. Listening to him helps me with my mental health and emotional well-being issues and mobility issues. I just want to dance in my living room or in my head.
