Why did they make you do slow flight with the stall buzzer going off back then? I'm sure there is a valid reason, but I can't think of one.

My guess is so the airplane could actually be flown on the edge of a stall where any change in angle of attack or load factor would cause a stall. Flying with the stall buzzer normalized the sound of a stall buzzer which would be like hearing a smoke alarm going off and doing nothing.
