Great Tew is a world famous village frozen in time. This cluster of thatched iron stone cottages attracts people from all over the world to the nearby Soho Farmhouse, and its clear to see why the village is visited by many. It's a great example of a countryside English village, with no modern alterations to change its character.

Albie has a lovely square halt - G&W didn’t seem so keen to welcome him at the start… A really different script but the same quality of presentation and Robin’s wonderful delivery is very welcome (and the stick is gone!). Great to have you all back - the Falkland Arms definitely on the to-visit list!

I used to live there as a boy: to get to school in Oxford on time, we would wake up fairly early. Occasionally, there would be a family of deer in the garden as I munched my cereal. A beautiful place, probably my favourite in Oxforfshire.

Beautiful little Village. Preserved pretty well too... if you think this has been suburbanized you wouldn't want to live anywhere in Canada. This is Story-Book Heaven, as far as I am concerned. Really enjoyed this Vlog. Well Done - and HAPPY EASTER! 🧺🐇🌸🇬🇧🇨🇦

I'm currently working through my annual read of Tess of the d'Urbervilles, and, along with Hardy's poignant and nostalgia-laden descriptions of the late Victorian Dorset countryside, these videos are heightening my longing to see all these places with my own eyes. I'm a proud American; I adore my country and all its (relatively short) history, as well as it's varied and beautiful landscapes, but, for as long as I can remember, I've been captivated by English/British history-- especially the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, and, more recently, the early Anglo-Saxon period and their Christianization. There's just an ineffable charm about the history of those misty, northern Isles that captures my imagination like no other. Largely to blame for this obsession are the likes of Tolkien, Lewis, Machen, Blackwood, Conan Doyle, Morris, Blake, the Brontës, Hardy, Dickens (of course)...and even Rowling etc.; indeed part of what draws to me to these giants of British lit is simply the fact of how unapologetically *English* (or Welsh or Scottish) their stories and settings strike me as. You guys really have something so precious in these villages, steeped in centuries of history-- in many of which lay glimpses of an even dimmer past lost to the wreckage of time-- which dot your countryside. I can't tell you how much it pleases me to see men like Robin who fully realize and appreciate this gift-- far more than I can as someone whose only ties to the land are in my imagination-- and who are willing to share this passion so that others, all around the world, can enjoy the beauty and history of this land.

I am really pleased that you are back after your health problems. I have found your exploration of the North Oxfordshire ironstone villages really interesting, as it is the area I originated from. Hook Norton was where I grew up and the Schools, particularly the Secondary School took pupils from Hooky, Sibfords, Epwell, Swalcliffe, Tadmartons, Wiggington, Milcome, South Newington, Great Tew, Little Tew, Swerford and Rollright. Where the Cotswold are and where just beyond is, seems difficult to define. I shall miss your potted history of my familiar places but look forward to moving further on. Thanks Robin

There are marvellous medieval wall paintings in the church. I spent a very happy day exploring them and other treasures there a couple of years ago. Thank you for a delightful tour and whilst I’m rather grumpy about second homers pushing house prices out of the reach of locals, you make a very good point about injections of outside money helping maintain these glorious villages.

Hey Robin!! Back in the 1990s I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford and lived in both Bicester and Brackley. I did quite a lot of touring in the Cotswolds and it's one of my favorite areas of the UK. I really enjoy your trips and think you do a brilliant job presenting them. Glad to see you're up and about and recovering!! Sorry to hear about your medical scare. Horrible stuff, that. Best wishes and take care!

Picture postcard village, but it gave me an uneasy feeling that life itself had been almost frozen out of existence - though of course, its lovely church and parked cars indicated otherwise. I have never visited Great Tew, so I'm almost certainly doing it a grave injustice - if you'll excuse the pun.

Oh god you mentioned the C word. Well I suppose I have to agree, that just like expensive artefacts/art, if it costs a lot it's likely to be owned by the wealthy and maintained, restored and protected into the future. But whether you accept, as I heard on radio 4 just this week, that the gentrification of pretty villages makes it impossible for local "" hard working families" (not Clarkson - the other C) to afford to live in the area they were once born and raised in , is a moot point. Ditto Dorset.

The armoured figure in the church is not in a side chapel, it's in the vestry. The sedilia is a Victorian creation here and not original. You also seemed to miss the wall paintings of the south aisle!

@@RevdrwilliamOn my own visit in October the space was certainly not being used as a chapel. Its own official guidebook that I am holding as I write this calls this space the vestry but describes it as having once been a chapel. So unless that's changed in the last few months,
