Antes todo era así, muy artesano... los detalles para regalar eran sencillos, pero se valoraban mucho. Al igual que las recetas, se empleaba la fuerza de las manos para amasar, y un simple cuchillo sin ser especial se lograba picar los frutos secos. Hi Kandye! I’ve been busy the last two days. I roasted a turkey yesterday. Today I went to a friend’s house and we made six baker’s trays of homemade noodles using regular flour and semolina flour. When I came home I boned the turkey, cut it up and stuffed it into eight pints jars. I pressure canned that and had the dishes all done by six. I washed up 4 1/2 pounds of cranberries but was too tired to make the preserves. I’m nearly 70 and don’t have quite the energy I used to. The preserves will be made in the morning. I also have two jars of sourdough perking away. I’ll be making herb crackers and pizza crackers and want to try English muffins. I’ve become addicted to sourdough baking!

Ich habe die Fenster mit einfachen Schneeflocken aus weissem Papier geschmückt und jetzt ist alles draussen ganz zauberhaft verschneit. Kleine gestrickte Geschenke warten im Schrank, dass ich sie liebevoll einpacke auf Weihnachten. Jetzt male ich noch Sterne, welche leuchten werden an den Fenstern zusammen mit den weissen Schneeflockensternen. Leise Weihnachtslieder erfüllen mein Zimmer.

Muchas gracias!!! La verdad es que aguantan meses! No se exacto cuánto tarda en verlas mas secas, pero por semanas están intactas y luego se aclara el verde pero las puedes seguir usando. Yo tengo unos adornos de años anteriores, solo ha aclarado el verde :)

Turn back the clock to a much earlier time when life was much more simple. No motor cars with their noisy engines, no airplanes overhead, a cozy fireplace for warmth, a nice cup of tea or better yet a glass of brandy to take the chill off and drive away the blues. A nice big garden full of flowers and vegetables and a well stocked larder. Of course, people didn't live very long back then, there were very few advances in medicine until around 1910. But forget that part. The lovely tumbledown cottage that I live in, in the Cotswolds in England, doubtless was originally occupied by people who were dirt poor. In place of the lovely hollyhocks, delphiniums, sweet peas, lupines , foxgloves and Canterbury bells that I now grow, they more than likely grew only vegetables to keep from starving to death. The beautiful watercolor paintings of cottage life in the mid-nineteenth century depicted an ideal setting of cottagers that was extremely unrealistic. The artist Myles Birkett Foster painted a more realistic view with ragged children and cabbages and potatoes filling the garden, but there were vines of sweet peas and a stand of Dame's Rocket near the cottage door. Just a thought.
