I used to do recorded ones a few times per month but I’ve fallen off my schedule. I hope to do a few pre-recorded ones and also add a few live ones here and there.

Hi Courtney!! I’m an self published romance author and I’m looking to do an audiobook for the very first time. I wanted to ask how you go about it, especially with having dual narration? I know I can reach out to narrators directly but once they supply the recordings, how do I find a sound engineer to splice the files together? It would be awesome if you did a video on this lol! TIA! 😊
@TheCourtneyProject2 жыл бұрын
Hiii! There are companies who will take care of everything for you! But you can also ask the narrators if they engineer/master their files and the other narrators. Most of them do/will and charge you an extra per hourly fee to do so. This basically makes sure that both narrators levels are exactly the same. They should be giving you the final files in chapters. You’ll also need to figure out which narrator will do your opening/closing credits, the sample, and copyright information. We usually have our female narrator do that. But typically if they’re doing audio, they either can act as an audio engineer or can recommend you to someone. Hopefully that helps. Oh also there are companies for romance authors who have their own list of narrators and take care of everything for you. It usually a little more expensive, but not by much. We’ve done it all ways (royalty share, finding our own narrators, and using a company) and using a company was very easy.

@@TheCourtneyProject thank you so much! This helps a lot! Do you recommend a specific company for romance authors?

When you say dark romance, what tropes? In KU the biggest ones are MC (Motorcycle Club) & Mafia romance. Dark romance is my most frequent DNF on KU as so many are problematic! K.S. Ellis has both MC and Mafia. Another Mafia romance series is The Doyles by Sophie Austin. I prefer the characters in Ellis's books. Bruiser is my favourite.

Any tropes! 😂 I just want dark. I’m going to write these down. Yes, the ones I DNF’d were all KU books unfortunately:

I should put out a warning concerning Courtney's comments about webcomics. They are becoming increasingly popular, but those stats that Courney showed are probably misleading. It has been known that the comic industry will oftentimes include Manga from Japan in those numbers, but also exclude works that may be crowd funded. This means that the sales could be inflated to make them look good, while domestic sales are still lagging. Also, the platform you use to publish could have effects. If you publish on something like Webtoons, majority of people will see barely any revenue. While self publishers will go ignored even if you do very well. Also the big name traditional publishers (like Marvel and DC) I know for a fact are hanging on to a thread. Just some thoughts though. The comics industry is similar to book publishing , but have some differences due to logistics as well.
@TheCourtneyProject2 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to disagree with you based on my sources. The stats are for North America sales. Here’s an article that was referenced along with the chart I showed in the video. www.comichron.com/yearlycomicssales/industrywide/2021-industrywide.html
@hawkgurl11572 жыл бұрын
@@TheCourtneyProject Oh yeah, they are north American sales, but my point was towards the types of sales and who's writing these books. Here's a video that encapsulates my observation better (it goes over how that exact stat you cite is more than likely skewed): kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3rIcp2qfdegoJo

@@hawkgurl1157 wow that’s interesting. I honestly might send that link to Jane Friedman. She’s the industry expert who puts together the hot sheet newsletters and she’s an extremely reputable source, but I also don’t want to spread false information. I have zero skin in the game when it comes to comics. With that being said, I do think there is a way for people to be seen and find their audience in every genre, regardless of the size. So I will never discourage someone for creating something they are passionate about.
@hawkgurl11572 жыл бұрын
@@TheCourtneyProject oh yeah definitely. I think there's a lot of potential outside of the traditional publishing scene. In general, I think self-publishing in many forms will become more popular and reputable. There's definitely a demand for it as long as you know how to tap into it.
