Check the ignition control module, when they over heat it will make them break up and shut off completely. When the module cools off it will fire up and run fine till they overheat again. Fat fox sells an ignition control module relocation kit that will do the job, or you can scour pick and pulls and source the parts from later model rangers. Hope this helps you 👍

You can get brand new tires for a 16.5 whatever size you want from interco. They even started remaking those ground hawgs you showed just under the name cobalt

I worked with a kid that bought one of those trucks and he said it running like crap. I went and looked at it with him, noticed a new map sensor on it. I asked were he got it, he responded parts store. Oh did it take a crap on you, he said no just did it preventively. I said put the old one on it. He did and now it runs fine. It acts like a misfire like the distributor is cutting out, but c could be fuel related if it idle fine but it’s flat. My mustang did that, the little rubber hose in the gas tank burst open and was spraying fuel out the side of it. You could hear it when someone would prime the key.

Craig, I would say either the ignition control module, fuel filter, or fuel tank selector filter inside the selector valve. Your buddy said it wasn't smoking, so it isn't getting enough fuel and running lean. You said with you babying it, it wasn't too bad, which has me leaning to it being more fuel related instead of ignition. Check the fuel pressure and see what it says. Nice truck, I like the wheel tire combo, especially that size. It compliments the era and look of it.
@raze47892 күн бұрын
Relocate the ignition module. We had a late 80's f350 service truck that did the same thing, built an extension harness, put it in the footwell.

One thing that got me on one of these early fuel injected ford trucks was a tps sensor that had varnish from the intake dripping into it hanging it slightly open. Sometimes it wouldn't even start (because it saw partial throttle during cranking, no injector pulse). Just pull it off and make sure it's moving free. I know it was more common on the trucks were the tps sensor bolts on the bottom of the throttle body and not on the side.

Interco still makes brand new tires for 16.5’s as well as a few others just not as popular of a size. Mainly due to no safety lip on the rim causing tires to debead moreso than a 15 or 16.

As far as the running and dying out goes , that being the straight 6 fuel injection model and the v8 302 or 351 Windsor oddly enough were all the same when it came to certain issues, and it didn’t matter what vehicle they were in, if I remember correctly my 88 5.0 had a similar issue and yes it’s scary as hell when it happens, I’m pretty sure I remember it being the fuel pump in the gas tank if I remember correctly, either that or a sensor but I can’t remember witch one. It’s been 30 plus years😂😂😂😂.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it the is a fuel schrader vale on the fuel rail. when the engine is idling should be 30 psi. Disconnect vacuum hose at the fuel pressure regulator should go to 40 psi. drive it with gauge on your windshield and watch to see if pressure drop below 30psi anything below that replace the fuel pump. also i don't remember the years but there was two fuel filters on some of the trucks. They both mounted on the frame but the second one was inside a black plastic housing with a cartridge filter inside. good luck now fix it.

Is there a chance that you have an issue with the dual tank system where it's pumping fuel into the other tank instead of to the motor? I dont know how it works on those trucks but maybe the fuel is sporadically going the wrong direction? My dad's 93 F-150 did something like that, but I think 93 was a totally different style system than whats in your truck.
