I bought a new mountain bike from Walmart, huffy rock creek 29, just recently purchased new tires for it, Kenda sport nevegal 29 2 20, I ride at the trexler nature preserve in Allentown Pennsylvania and it takes everything, berms, jumps and more, a great hard tail.
@echobenav83 жыл бұрын
Great review, agree with all the shortcomings. Got this for my 14yr old last March to see if mountain biking was something he'd be interested in, and I didn't want to spend $2k for an entry f/s bike at the LBS. Picked up a used Markhor fork ($100), DNM coil shock ($50) & MT200 hydraulic brakes ($50) and he's been good on local black diamond trails and even at the local bike park. Will be upgrading to a "real" bike this Christmas as he loves riding now. Which means the bike served its purpose.
@TheCrashingDad3 жыл бұрын
THAT'S the way to do it 🤘🏼 I think with a form, shock, and brakes that actually work like normal...this bike could serve that purpose. Maybe grippier pedals, a dropper post, short stem, and wider bars would be good too...

But there is that one Walmart bike that tops them all, the Axum DP Hardtail $500 is no joke. (If you can get one they're being snatched) Of course any regular nice mountain bikes are modded, so it's fair with a couple mods they're a competitive true ripper! Definitely getting one. Thanks for the vid man, it was awesome, I was also thinking of a modding a cheap Walmart Dual Suspension indeed, had this in mind as one of the only options, not anymore lol.
@TheCrashingDad3 жыл бұрын
@Hector Munoz yeah...it's a tough call on alot of bikes on whether or not to upgrade them. I'd say any bike that doesn't have thru-axles and a tapered headtube isn't worth upgrading. Hard to upgrade, and not very future proof.... Not to mention, not sturdy enough to handle the rigors of gnarly mtb 😬🤷🏼♂️ Just my opinion.. But definitely keepingy eye out for an Axum fort non-mtb friend
@Hector55Munoz3 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrashingDad Indeed, must look at the frame features to see if it's worth it, but hey the Axum is Aluminum, (unlike that one has a steel rear end) 67.8 aggressive head angle, tappered too. 32 teeth 1 by 8 drive.. I believe there is a way to get over the axle problem with those wheels, although I think they're double wall and of good quality on their own with 2.6 wide tires. Used to dh race in the late 90s. Just got back in to riding after over 20 years and bought a $600 Felt 29er ht. It doesn't suck, its actually pretty good. Great frame, cheap Suntour coil forks are just as good as what I used to race on and the cheap x4 derailer shifts way better than anything I've ridden before. Even the cheap no name wheelset is actually pretty high quality. This bike and its components are better than the high end stuff I last rode on. Its perfectly capable and durable. We used to ride the same trails that you young guys think requires a $4000 bike with cushy long travel suspension on 26ers with 100mm coil suspension. Its all perspective.
@BrianFromBoise Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but bikes have come a LONG way in 25 years. I also got into MTB’ing in the mid/late nineties as a teen. They were still figuring out frame geometry and there were many differing and odd experimental layouts. Some worked better than others. Nowadays, most of the frames have almost identical angles because MTB’ers have pretty much agreed on what works and what doesn’t. Even the tires are much, much better. You’re not going to find many 29’ers with 2.8+ width on 90’s bikes and we didn’t know what we were missing. Tubeless tires and disk brakes? Unheard of. Oh, and Felt makes some great bikes, too, even on the low end . I own a FZ100 road bike and I love it.

Let's remember, you just took a $300 bike on a double black diamond trail and even jumped it from a 5-8 foot drop off. Rims didn't even warp. A bike like this is perfect for a beginner trail rider. I’m not quite sure you know what a crescent wrench is, mate Maybe I missed it but every time you said crescent wrench you held up a standard wrench 🔧 A crescent wrench is the one that adjusts and rounds off everything it touches

First and foremost, The Crashing Dad is a brilliantly clever man. I have always thought that, even before I knew you. Be proud of it, you a dad, I’ve seen you crash, and together it’s perfect. Next, that was sweet. Nice work. You flowed everything together well. I enjoyed watching it. I enjoyed helping you film a 1/5ish part of it as well. Thanks for inviting me out with you. 😁 Stoked!!

I never see those Hypers or the new Scwinn's or Mongoose out here in the Florida stores.Would be cool to still get one and upgrade it like Kev Central does. Just for fun.
@TheCrashingDad3 жыл бұрын
I suppose so 😬 even upgraded, I’d have a hard time trusting the qr dropouts, and no derailleur hangar 🤷🏽 But for a beginner, yeah maybe… but at that price, they could get into a REALLY good hard tail

@@TheCrashingDad Its true. I play with the idea but the reality to me is space, time and money. Cool honest video bro.
@screwb1882 Жыл бұрын
You need to go for one of the hard tails with a Suntour fork. They are MUCH better bikes. These dual suspension bikes I like to call "kabuki bikes" after the kabuki speakers from the 70s and 80s. All flash and no substance.
@jonbread18842 жыл бұрын
hey what are you thoughts on the schwinn boundary?
@johnsteele22606 ай бұрын
honestly i think you should take ozark trail ridge on those trails it has an actual fork and i would say a better ride you could try the mongoose impass but im not convinced that its much better thought im sure it is better

It is so funny when people freak out when you tell them that your bike costs $ 2500.00 , specially when they say : I'd go to Walmart and I'd get a bike and I can do the same shit you do on that trail for just $64.99 .
@TheCrashingDad3 жыл бұрын
hahah...THEN they go spend $30,000 on side by sides and 4 wheelers...that they take out 8 times a year XD hahahaha...

Thank you for not returning it….I build E-bikes using wallmart bikes, and I have to always check, and make sure it’s not a return. Wallmart has this bad habit of putting a abused bike back in stock….it’s anoying! And wallmart don’t like marking them down when I find one I like….they seem to only have that one in stock. I use e-bike kits on Hard Tail MTBs from wallmart…..I love the mongoose Durham’ 24inch, 26inch, and 29inch.

KevCentral reviewed the Hyper Hydroform and I am NOT a Hyper fan but it honestly impressed him. I am 5'1" woman and it sucks thia bike does not come in a small or medium sized bike.
@TheCrashingDad3 жыл бұрын
It IS a bummer on sizing 😰 And yeah… I suppose it all comes down to the type of riding you want to do the most…and your trails. I would say that Kev Central’s trails and style of riding are on the opposite side of the spectrum from my trails and my riding style 🤷🏽 So i think anyone should take both of our reviews with a grain of salt, because we’re both looking at this bike through different “trail-lenses” 😅
