I think the best thing for youtubers to do with paid deals is to just be completely transparent about it with their viewers, either by making a video or section or description saying, "hey, this is a paid promotion, if you don't want to watch it, you don't have to." people like Jesse Cox and Dodger do that with their promotional videos and they don't get any bad backlash. Trying to cover it up or make excuses is what pisses people off, but if you're honest about it, people can make a decision whether they want to support it or not.

In regards to the Halo talk, I think it all depends on how old you were when each game was coming out. Considering I was a teenager when Halo 2/3 came out I have the fondest memories of those games because it was my gaming prime. Everything after that was post prime. Talking to Halo fans who are teenagers right now, they love Reach/4 because those games came out in their own gaming prime. Everything before that is ancient, everything after will be new and dumb.
