Adam, I didn't know anything for Green Mile was filmed at that location. However, The Last Castle starring Robert Redford and James Gandolfini filmed exterior many shots there, because the front of it looks like a castle.

Adam, you may have already noticed. They've upped security a bit, like fixing the lock on the front gate, that some have slipped under, but you can still get in certain areas. Well, it's quite sad to see this place rotting away! This is a very important part of Tennessee History!! The same thing is happening to a place called: "Brushy Mountain". (closed since 2009) Am just noting: "Film place of The Green Mile, Ernest goes to Jail, The Last Castle, etc." Cheers! :-)

That prison is nicknamed "The Walls". My uncle served alot of time there. They had a great Boxing program.

Adam if you want to gain access to the Prison contact TDOC. Short for Tennessee Department of Corrections. Ask for their Media Relations Division. Go to the TDOC Website to get the number. I'm from Tennessee. They're usually very willing to let you film spots like that.

I don't know how long you were in Nashville for but there were about 10 places that are old and abandoned within about 10mins from that location. The coolest are an abandoned apartment complex behind a hospital, meat packing plant and several old industrial buildings.

I've been inside and in the guard towers. You can park along the highway at night and cross the large hill/field from the rear of the facility.

Flying J, and Pilot truck stops, are both owned by the gov of Tn, yep, Bill Haslim, The old Tennessee State Penitentiary closed in June 1992. As part of the settlement in a class action suit, Grubbs v. Bradley (1983), the Federal Court issued a permanent injunction prohibiting the Tennessee Department of Correction from ever again housing inmates at the Tennessee State Prison.sorry to say, the one person that I knew who could maybe get us in, moved away.

Please after you go to chatonnoga please go to ducktown tn it is 30 min away and we are the copper basin we mined long ago lost all wild life and then we worked hard 70 years to replant trees go to the copper basin museum and do a video please mutch appreciated!!
