In March 1950, Ralph Edwards, the host of the popular NBC Radio quiz show Truth or Consequences, announced that he would air the program on its 10th anniversary from the first town that renamed itself after the show; Hot Springs officially changed its name on March 31, 1950, and the program was broadcast from there the following evening. Edwards visited the town during the first weekend of May for the next 50 years.

Truth or Consequences was a TV game show from the 50's hosted by Ralph Edwards. They had a contest to any town that would change their town name they would broadcast the show from that town. So Hot Springs, New Mexico accepted the offer and changed the name. And every year from then until 1998 Ralph Edwards would return to Truth or Consequences and would be the annual Ralph Edward days parade marshal.

Truth or Consequesnes NM was named after a very popular NBC Radio show in New York City that ran for many years. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the show, the host, Ralph Edwards, offered to hold the celebration in whatever town changed their name to Truth or Consequences. Hot Springs, NM voted to change their name and the celebration was held there in 1950 hosted by Ralph Edwards. Every year after that they held a big Fiesta and Ralph Edwards would come and visit the town. The show went on TV and lasted til 1975 under other hosts like Bob Barker.
