Thank you for the super informative video. is there a cheaper alternative to buying a degassing chamber? i'm pretty new to modelling and don't think I should be forking out £250 right just yet.
@thedarkpower3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. You don't necessarily need to degas. If you're just making basic moulds and not doing anything special with them (like pressure casting) you can pour the rubber from a high point in a thin stream. This will help burst the bubbles as you pour. Using a long set silicon will also give it time to naturally degas as it sets.

When I worked at a dental lab they used an ultrasonic vibration plate to get the bubbles to raise to the top stone models made from the impressions.

@@thedarkpower your welcome, If a place had to have perfect pours, thats one. Any bubbles in a pour would have areas of the teeth or gums missing making it impossible to make a perfect fitting crown or denture. They also used a pressurized boiler when making things out of composite. Stuff was like a bendable wax uncured, bubbles in water would deform it otherwise. I have not tried to make any molds of anything yet for my sculptures, but this video will be very helpful. Thank You for the video !

Great video, massively helpful! What would you recommend if I wanted to cast something in latex rubber? Use plaster mould with the same process as you have in this video? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@thedarkpower4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes I've seen people make a plaster mould, pour latex in and leave it for a few hours so that a layer forms on the inside of the mould. You then pour out the excess and let that layer dry. It's a technique used to make masks and gloves etc.

Do I have to use any release agent on monster clay before I start molding? I also want to use plaster mould I made to get monster clay sculpture out of it. Do I need any releaser between plaster and monster clay?
@thedarkpower4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I've not tried, but I suspect you wouldn't need a mould release if you're making a plaster mould from a monster clay sculpture. I've done this frequently with a chavant sculpture - the clay just peels straight out nice and clean. If in doubt do a test with a small blob of clay and some plaster.

@Gawron..3 жыл бұрын
@@thedarkpower Silicone glue (sealant) that smells like vinegar is toxic (at least it's bad for me). Acrylic paints etc. also work badly. The only paints that are not toxic for me are poster paints and watercolors. As for glue, it's only for office use for paper. I do not use any other. I have not tried hot glue (apparently completely non-toxic). All attempts end up with a problem permanently.

Yes I'd probably go for the brush on method for that, unless you can construct a very close sitting mold jacket. You can also roto/slush cast the resin to produce a hollow cast so you save on the amount of resin used.

@thedarkpower3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! Depending on the sculpture the monster clay should eventually give, unless the gypsum mould is locking on itself. So what I usually do is get a chisel or screwdriver between the two halves of the mould and slowly work it free - don't concentrate on one section, try and part the mould a little bit on each side. It can sometimes take forever but it should eventually give. If the mould is locked on itself or the two halves are stuck together you may need to cut it though. Good luck!
