Just to add to the point of surveillance and facial recognition being pushed more on Palestinians, i used to pass a checkpoint to and from my house using my ID, now they (the IDF soldiers) don't ask for it anymore, they just tell you to look at a camera placed inside the checkpoint for a second, then they decide to let you through or not. It's funny that I've not seen anyone cover this except for this podcast.

In unrelated news, I think my own personal KZbin algorithm is having a stroke. For reference, I live in Japan where I teach languages and terp. I study Spanish, Russian, and Ukrainian on Duolingo, and occasionally watch a video in one of those languages, usually about news. I also keep track of two comedians who make fun of linguistic peculiarities, usually of French and English. For some reason I don't understand, the KZbin app is giving me Disney IT ads. Yes, they are in Italian. No, I don't speak Italian. At least when KZbin advertises Bollywood movies to me, they're advertised in Japanese.

About the protests and activism in Thailand, even though they were sometimes organized by young leftists but the people who joined or played a part in large protests were mostly young liberal and libertarian bros who got bored with the lack of progress and repression (and its fondness for enforced disappearance) of the former right-wing government, that's maybe why a lot of the time the way they tried to appear and appeal to the people were plain cringe, and about the election, I mean, there are not so many choices, socialist and communist are still being banned from forming parties because the election commission perceives them as "undemocratic", and while there's an openly leftist party, it didn't receive much public attention as Move Forward and the rest are either centrist or in the right-wing spectrum. And I personally find this funny (just funny, not saying that I find it to be entirely wrong) cuz the speculation of American intervention and influence in the party is also a Thai reactionary talking point now, but it's more like "omg Pita is a Thai Zelensky" and conspiracy theory sounding stuff.

So I'm listening to the talk about the horrific colonization of the west bank, aka eastern Palestine. I fully accept the idea that this isn't a situation of two combatants and having collateral damage but outright oppression. Like Israelis often feel that the mosque built upon the site of Solomon's Temple was built specifically to cement Islam's domination and prevent Jewish people from ever rebuilding the temple or even worshiping there. So they stage these terror raids on the worshippers there. It's disgusting. The question is... It's 1948. Over the past three decades the Palestinians have been violently hostile to Jewish immigrants to the region. This anti Jewish violence of course created counter violence and it escalated to the point that the league of nations had proposed the first two state solution. Only the Jewish population accepted. Now things are boiling over into a real civil war and the local Palestinians are trying to actively murder every single Jewish immigrant to the land through siege starvation. What is your proposed solution to this state of affairs? The British solution of inviting Jordan to invade was obviously the wrong one. The whole problem in the west bank (where Israel is actively colonizing mostly) is entirely because Israel cannot exist as a state unless it militarily controls that ground as was shown by the Jordanian invasion and again in the 6 day war. Anyone controlling that high ground holds the fate of all of Israel's cities in their hands. So they do this barbaric colonization out of fear of survival. I love the idea of ending all the colonization, but it's not going to happen while Israel continues to have reason to fear for it's existence. THAT is the part I think is the real puzzle. In real world terms how do we get things to the point that Israel will stop this murderous crap by providing assurances of their safety?
