My dad went from healthy in may 2017 with no signs of illness, to a high pitched voice in June 2017, to severe pain everywhere in October 2017, to being bedridden by January 2018, and finally dead on April 17 2018 I quit smoking in October 2017 by switching to vaping and slowly reducing the nicotine eventually down to 0% and then quitting vaping altogether. It was easier than switching cigarette brands in my case. Stage 4 lung cancer is so fucking scary and comes like a thief in the night...

The misconception around "pro-life" is huge. It's not about life-quality, it's purely about amount of life (as in amount of people born). This directly leads to the question for which purpose this maximisation is supposed to happen, and it's not going to surprise anyone on the left (probably not even socdems, definitely not anarchist or marxist) that this purpose is maximum exploitation (well, socdems would call it different) as work force. Hakim, you could take the base off of the tower fan and put it in your bed so that you can sleep next to it when it's on or even hug it. This works very well as a way of keeping yourself cool when you sleep without a really loud airconditioner.

Hakim's take on the south of the U.S. I appreciate as an Arkansan. Poverty is very high amongst the average citizens here and the education isn't well funded either. I got lucky by meeting some people from different backgrounds at a young age but people here are a bit more likely succumb to pretty negative ideology. But if the material conditions where different I really think the situation would be different

If you live in a dry, hot climate, try a swamp cooler. They work fine in low humidity environment, not so much if it's humid. Less current draw than an air conditioner ( fan and small pump)....that might be important if your house wiring isn't up to air conditioning.

Marx writes that the price of a commodity is determined by its cost of production. Although there are price fluctuations above or below the cost of production, the highs and lows will balance themselves out - and the average price is the cost of production. What I didn't get, is how does the capitalist even make money, then? When he sells his commodities (on average) at the price of their cost of production, how does he make profit at all? Through selling he gains as much money as he loses for producing. I would be deeply happy if I could understand this better. Therefore it would be very helpful if one of you helping me out. Maybe you could do an episode about politics and the political landscape in Germany sometime. Our next election is one year or two in the future but right now the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) is heavily gaining in the polls. I think one reason is anti-refugee sentiment and also unhappiness with our current streetlight coalition (SPD - socdems but even calling them that is a stretch, Greens - they actually don't care that much about the environment and looove the USA and sending heavy weapons to Ukraine despite supposedly being a peace party, FDP - economic liberals who try to stop every little environment or social initiative that the other parties of the coaliton act like they support. And the we have the CDU - conservation christian democrats and very corrupt and the left party DieLinke. In the last election I voted for DieLinke because they are the most anti-imperalist. They oppose every NATO maneuver in the EU/NATO and other countries like Somalia or Irak. Also they are only party that is against Europes new plan for detainment camps for refugees on the EU border. And of course they are supporting unions and workers. Sadly in the last election they only got 4,9% and almost got kicked out of the parliament but luckily the could stay because the won three local races. Of course even they aren't perfect and also they have different factions with different positions especially on the Russia-Ukraine situation but when it comes to bigger parties they are the best we have...
