As a career OH-58D Kiowa Warrior pilot, I must say you fly the DCS KW like we did IRL. Well, not the crashing part, but the low level NOE flying. And yes, we did use our M4s frequently.

The US Army would make extensive use of various OH-58 models across numerous war zones over the decades, seeing active combat during the Gulf War, the Invasion of Panama, and the War in Afghanistan among others. During 2017, the US Army opted to withdraw its remaining OH-58s, making use of alternative rotorcraft such as the Apache and Lakota

Back when I was in, my unit used to be a Kiowa unit right before I got there and changed to a shadow platform. Hearing stories about the pilots hanging out of the helicopter to shoot M4’s at dudes on rooftops were always awesome.

In Afcrapistan my infantry company had the biggest slap in the face by our commander. We had a dude shooting at us from a couple hundred meters away…an easy shot for most infantry guys. Instead of letting us shoot the dude he calls in the Kiowas, who weren’t even in the air yet. It takes them about 30mins to get to our position and then they come in shoot the dude with their M4’s. Couldn’t believe it. It was awesome to see, it just came at the expense of realizing our CO didn’t trust us to use our basic weapons.

I can never seem to get up to speed like that. Also, my hand over from AI to pilot is always a disaster. Especially when transitioning from a AI hover.

Make sure you don’t take too much fuel, stay below the weight limit. If you want to get to a fast cruising speed, increase collective and monitor your torque, leave it around 92ish percent. That should be providing a lot of lift, so you just need to give some forward stick to dip your nose and accelerate. From neutral trim, you’ll need a good bit of forward stick to fight the lift being generated and stay low and fast. Slowing down from speed is a whole other can of worms. To smooth out the hand over, make sure you have your control display toggled on in DCS, RShift+Enter, it will show you where he’s got the collective and cyclic at so you can try to match it. To make it safer, more altitude and speed. If you have altitude and forward speed, you can probably recover pretty easily from whatever oscillation you have at first. From a hover, you have more ways to eat it.

just keep in mind, the new updates make helis that fly too low, visable due to the smoke/water/dust your rotors throw around. ive noticed anywhere between 20 to 50ft is optimal, below or above makes for easy pickings. thats worked for me with the apachy, no idea about the kiowa

Friend of mine asked me to teach him to fly on ARMA one night. Picked up went ripping out of the airfield and flew into a set of wires. Never played pilot on the computer again. Still fly every day but not on the computer

if this is in ECW which it looks like it is, then there should be no issue of stream snipers. too much going on and anyone good enough to have the landscape memorized to match up to his stream wouldn't be relying on stream sniping to get kills

so did tbe F/A-18. But you wouldn’t let F-18s in your ‘60s and ‘70s Cold War server so I don’t know why the Kiowa (with laser guided hellfires) Is on it.

@@mikeck4609 They evaluate each model independently to see if it will upset the server balance or add to the game play. Plus overall the avionics of the Kiowa are still rather modest. I imagine when the C-130 comes out it may also feature on the server because there is currently no era equivalent but a large tactical transport role is sorely missing in DCS overall.
