YES!!! It's very very scottish to be self deprecating in a humorous way. We are very rarely offended by anything. We know the difference between banter and actual hate. A lot of it is also protection. The way he described taking the power away from people by shitting on yourself first.

also here off the back on the Glasto performance. I liked him as a person from the social media funny stuff but wasn´t a fan of the music, because I´m old. Genuinely moved by what I saw at Glastonbury. I wonder how many other 26 year olds have his level of emotional maturity? I know I didn´t. Having listened now to some of the music, I get it. I hope he continues just being himself. With that level of talent I can´t help thinking of other artists like George Michael or Paul McCartney. But right now, take the time needed. As friend said, "when you´re going through hell, keep going".. you´ll get there in the end.

I’m so glad Lewis is talking about anxiety in depth. The dizziness and hypochondriac thing is my life. I’ve developed agoraphobia purely because of the dizziness that comes with my anxiety. I’m too scared to leave the house because I get dizzy, then I tell myself it’s just anxiety, but like Lewis said.. what if it isn’t and I actually do pass out? It’s a vicious cycle and I’m tired of it. The hypochondriac thing too.. I won’t even use a new shampoo because my mind can convince me that I’ll take a reaction to it and maybe die. It sounds so ridiculous but anxiety is awful but I’m so glad I’m not alone after hearing Lewis talking about his anxiety.

im exactly the same with the dizziness and anxiety.. ive had eye/ear/blood/brain tests and everything is fine.. so i can only think that the constant dizziness is from the anxiety.. had it for about 12 years now..it has ruined me just enjoying everyday life for the most part.. hate it.. but hearing other people say that anxiety causes dizziness it a bit of a relief .. are you dizzy all the time ?

@@serloinz I’m not dizzy all the time but it happens a lot when I’m not in my house, I’m usually worse when I’m in a shop or when I’m around people. If somebody speaks to me I feel dizzy and panic so I avoid socialising. Even if I’m out walking in the countryside and I see somebody, I get dizzy instantly. I don’t know if it’s the thought of them speaking to me or just anxiety about other humans. It’s a horrible thing to have to live with. Makes me feel trapped.

Such a beautiful open interview. As a 49 year woman who was diagnosed with complex childhood trauma, ptsd and hypochondria, I relate to Lewis experience as a child where you see your mum in pain and it somehow develops into becoming the clown in the family or for friends. I manage to find humour in most situations and love making people laugh, but the down side is when you’re alone and how drained you feel and fearful that something bad is about to happen every second of each day. People would never guess I have all these conditions and it’s definitely a self coping mechanism.

My Dad has always been a catastrophiser too always thinking of the worst elaborate scenario before it even happens which has passed to me. Even being aware of it i struggle to stop it. I struggle with health anxiety similarly too although i think this was offset by my son having an undiagnosed rare disease for 6 months with no health professionals taking my concerns seriously. Once he was diagnosed they apologised to me and said it is a leading cause of SIDS which sent me into a spiral completely unhelpful i worry for myself and everyone around me constantly. It can be truly exhausting. So glad Lewis has been getting help for the struggles he has. Great guy 💖

My son lost his dad when he was 4. The impact was so great that he developed ocd and would wash his hands till they were red with rashes. He couldn’t get dirty. Wouldn’t step in water or dirt cause he couldn’t get his shoes dirty. If he dropped something on his shirt while eating he would have to change immediately. And of course what Lewis said about locking the door. He would always start asking me if I had locked the door. He’s 11 now and been in therapy for years but still struggles with anxiety and depression and self image. Thank you Lewis for being you and showing kids like him it’s okay to just be who you are and the world will embrace you as long as you do it from a genuine place ❤ Sincerely - a mom

Lewis is such a nice person. All the negative self talk and self flagellation is so common in people with anxiety. Cause or effect? Panic attacks are so exhausting. One of the great things about him is he is so open, and feels like a friend. He is one of life gorgeous people.

I love how much Steven was laughing and smiling in this conversation. The whole thing just had a way more relaxed vibe than other episodes. I also love that this was filmed before they installed the black wall lamps next to the guests head, they are so distracting. And of course, Lewis was super relatable, interesting and funny.

I so relate to Lewis Capaldi. My 1st memory as a child ( after finding my dad's post-suicide body at 4) was at the age of 7, sitting in my room doing homework. Our neighbors kids were playing outside, and I distinctly remember thinking 'how nice to hear kids laughing' I suffer from anxiety, PTSD and survivor's guilt. The past two years of my life was spent in a highly functioning fugue state, and most days are spent idealistic death/dying. Despite this, I have held highly paid management positions, and completely addicted to various prescription psychiatric drugs. I am exhausted more often than not, but Lewis, as a youngster, gives me hope. ❤

What a lovely and genuine guy. I can relate so well with his description of being an anxious kid with hypochondriac tendencies. Later on in life it morphed into depression and anxiety. When in an anxious phase, doing breathing exercises helps. Also learning about what happens in the body when anxiety kicks in, ie the adrenalin rush and knowing that it eventually passes. Plus, read / watch what Joe Dispenza has to say about the power of the mind.

Huuuge massive well done to Lewis on speaking openly and confidently about his mental health, inspiring other men and letting them know it’s ok to talk. Especially in a time where the male suicide rate is so high.

I am only 15 minutes in and I am so intrigued by this remarkably honest, genuine, and cool young man. And I feel so ridiculous because I have heard his name before but couldn’t make a connection so I look him up and I see that he is the guy that sings the song that literally brings tears to my eyes when I am driving listening to the radio… I am also loving the way he can articulate the anxiety I feel so well. Loving this podcast

It had me emotional when Lewis spoke of the loss of his gran and aunt. And how it affected his mum. This is one of the best interviews I have had the pleasure of watching! Thank you for sharing this with the world. I pray that Lewis will be making music for many years to come. I will be there for it, ready to listen! I am taken back. As a child I was very anxious due to my family set up. Through my early twenties I always knew I had bad anxiety but I masked it with alcohol. Until early in covid I started having severe panic attacks . some times several a day and I was convinced I had a heart defect and I was convinced I was having a heart attack every time and this happened every day for 6 months . I also went and had extensive checks on my chest and heart, I could tell then the doctors and nurses were looking at me like what a fruit loop. After realising slowly it was in my head and after many therapy sessions I have been able to move forward and be able to keep at bay and control The intrusive thoughts . I still have anxious thoughts and sometimes overwhelming thoughts but being self aware and being open to new methods around the way you construct and formulate your thoughts and self image will always be welcomed. Great podcast and thank you Lewis for being honest , embarrassingly it was only until I just watched this I thought I was insane and the only one stupidly to have this thought process which again is ridiculous but very helpful. Cheers lads Brads

Very interesting hearing Lewis talk. I beat my own anxiety by changing the way I talked to myself and others, it took years to learn. Being negative to yourself (even joking) and to others, you eventually start to believe it, changing your mindset, only telling yourself positive things/having an awareness of how you talk, stopping the process of negative thoughts when you’re with family and friends, again you eventually start to believe the things you’re saying and it’s more beneficial for those things to be positive as opposed to negative. I lost friends by adopting this approach but it was absolutely worth it and changed my life

It's great to hear someone else being so open about their feelings especially in the first part of the podcast, I always feel like I over exaggerate situations and hide a lot of things due to not wanting to 'jinx' them as I have the anxiety of the worst always happening. Over explaining and justifying too is another big thing, and it's always mentioned to me that I go into things too much and explain too much... Never really thought too deeply about certain things but a lot of what he is speaking about is traits of myself which is very tough to come to the realisation of... Great podcast as always, enjoyed listening!

Lewis Capaldi, a rare gem- you speak and we know you, relate to you and love you as a person! And so with your authenticity, humility, and big heart, it so happens that you're incredibly talented, and I mean, the kind of talent where we love your albums....and I mean-EVERY- SINGLE SONG- ON AN ALBUM! ...I might know 5 artists where I love more than half of the songs on a single album!-Anyway, the Reason I say this is because I was wondering if you've ever had this experience or I should ask, have you ever heard of Imposter Syndrom? I couldn't believe it when I learned of this and how much it relates to my anxiety and then some- I too was diagnosed with panic disorder... I broke through it and specialize in it. Finished college and became a therapist ....felt it wasn't real and learned of Imposter syndrome and now help others overcome thier panic disorder. Thank you for sharing so much of who you truly are! If everyone could share our true selves, we'd have world peace! Or well, at least everything in the world would make sense:)
