As long as they keep having new ideas. I think there’s a lot of room to continue buying Aeon’s End content. New Age hit it out of the park with the new Mages, and Outcasts looks really fresh.

I really enjoy AE, but the number of big box expansions is getting absurd at this point.

There is a new kickstarter going right now if you're interested in getting into (and I would recommend it to anyone who likes deck builders as it's the best one). The best jump off points are either the original release or Legacy. The first two releases (base game and war eternal) don't really have much of a story other than the background lore that there are a group of mages defending the last city of humans buried underground (think Zion from the matrix). Then in Legacy a big event happens and it opens things up quite a bit and sets the stage for more interesting to happen. The story continues through new age and outcasts and will be concluding with the kickstarter that is going on right now.

This and Outcasts have a higher rating on BGG; should a beginner get one of those over the base game?

Is this expansion compatible with second edition?

I love AE but yah, im starting to have buyer's remorse about getting last expansion which is just about to ship. Mostly, I will need way too much room to store all the contents. I do think outcast was a necessary addon as the adventure mode is just fabulous to me. More treasures are welcomed but small box expansion would be perfectly fine now just to sort of flesh out the adventure system (no new mage or bosses are really needed anymore)

Do you like Aeon's End more than MageKnight as solo?

I think it's natural to get sated with one game and not being so excited about new expansions. No game, no matter how great can support endless expansions, unless it's PvP. I do think that the core systems offer a TON of things that you can tweak around to offer variety in future expansions, and they are always creative with Nemesis design. So while they could go on forever, I think at some point their fans who would still love the game will had enough of it.

I don't think the issue lies with PvP or PvE so much as it lies with the fact that this is a physical game. I've been playing video games since I was a kid and more recently got into boardgaming about 5 years ago. I can buy endless dlc for a video game and never get tired of it, provided they are making worthwhile content. When it comes to physical board games you have to put one serious thought into where you're going to store all of it, especially if you own many games like a lot of enthusiasts do. Now that the game is on its sixth big box release, you have take into consideration how you're going to store that many boxes on your limited shelf space.
