This sounds like it should have been a stand alone sequel more then an expansion.
@bruchino4 жыл бұрын
yes, this is exactly what I wanted to say. it should be stand alone (if I understood correctly, you keep just the tokens and some goods cards from the original game)
@robinett744 жыл бұрын
Agreed. My thoughts exactly. The expansion costs as much as the original anyway.

Waiting for my preorder of this one. Targi is one of my favorite games of all time. The wife and I are pretty equal in skill

I also am waiting for my pre-order and it has been delayed :-(

Yeah I noticed that. Do you have any idea when the delay is until?

The original translation of the title was "The Extension". It definitely fits that. I know we need to translate for the US market, but it is like 7WD:Pantheon, it makes the game refreshed after playing a ton. I have a few lightweight games where the expansion gets added after at least 10+ plays and it felt perfect. This is like a bookend to the game, it is great once you need that next challenege, but not needed right away.

"Extension" surely sounds like a better description of what we just saw

Thanks, Zee! I’m looking forward to playing Targi. I have a copy but haven’t gotten it to the table yet. I’m going to take your advice and wait until I’ve played it a bunch before grabbing this one.

Sounds like an enrichment to the original game for those who've played it and are looking for a new challenge. As always thanks.

If you're anything like me, you'd get both at the same time anyways so when you're ready to "upgrade" to the expansion, it'll likely be out of print and you'll be glad you got it when you did. ;)
@c.w.20004 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking along the same lines, especially for something that is under $20. However, I have an unwrapped copy of the base game on the shelf, so I'm just prompted to play it a couple of times before I order the expansion.
@c.w.20004 жыл бұрын
I think paying for both still isn't a bad deal. For me in Canada, it is available for under $20 online, and I see in the US it can be had for around $15. I have the base game unplayed, which I intend to play at least a few times first. However, thankfully, this isn't like some Kickstarters where the expansion content is over $50 extra. Also, the expansion has gotten some good reviews from major reviewers, so hopefully it stays in print for awhile.
@minottechtutor97154 жыл бұрын
Very interesting idea. Should game makers make a 2nd edition, or should they do an upgrade kit like this? Players who have the base game have to buy the new one anyway, and those that don't have to buy both. So, it seems like they should have just released a 2nd edition. The only good thing here is that they are keeping both editions in print. The bad thing is that it sold out, so it's not in print anyway, haha.

Honestly it feels like this should just have been a standalone game or a Targi reprint. Not sure marketing it as an expansion (kudos on the name btw xD) will do it a favor. Other than that, I love Targi, have for years, so I'm definitely excited to see more of that. It just sucks that I can't get rid of the old box and just get this one, since there are still cards and components from the original box I'm gonna need to play this one. Thanks for reviewing this, Zee!

I think they are Kallax from Ikea. Pretty much the best for every board game collection.

The 'stand alone' question is a good one, as expansions sell less than base games, and it seems that this one could quite easily have been marketed as a Targi: '2', unless of course there are too-many similarity quibbles(?), but it doesn't seem that way. The question is, why wasn't this released in English for so long? Were they wondering whether or not to actually make it a stand-alone game? Or were they thinking of boosting the already-evergreen Targi alongside the idea of an expansion by drumming-up interest over time? The fact that Zee says he's unlikely to go back to Targi probably explains it for me: they are clearly selling two separate games to brand new buyers here, as they feel this strategy will make them more money than selling a single new stand-alone game. Their other similar option, a stand-alone re-theme, could very easily be labelled as a 'Targi killer/replacement'- which is great for that brand-new re-themed game (or indeed a Targi sequal), but not of course for the evergreen original. But as an expansion they get to sell them both, which is why this review was so 'low key' I think. To all the brand-new buyers who are naturally interested in the updated game, Targi is now a 30 quid purchase, and no-longer the low-priced '2-player line' game it originally came out as years ago. It's a bit of bummer for me because I am that brand new buyer! A once great-value game I've always kept back as a game-shop stand-by has now sort-of doubled in price :( It's like it's been made even better, but has somehow moved a little down my list.

The Extension came out in 2016. Immediately, Kosmos was asked about an English edition. And they basically answered that they were slotting into production when they could. Apparently that is 4 years. Considering all the bloat some "forced" expansions get, my example is Splendor, this is an organic next step. Targi does not NEED anything. But for the more devote fans, this is here. Many Kosmos 2p games do it see more than some holiday promos (which Targi does have). So this is outside the norm as well.

I’ve played the original with my girlfriend a bunch. She tends to win... which means I win... wink. Anywho, sounds like this adds some options and depth to the gameplay. It was already a fairly beefy game in comparison to its simple card game looks at first. Thanks for the review.
@Steve-L4 жыл бұрын
My wife wins more often then me as well. And she likes the game a lot more than me. I am fine with it, but it isn't a top 20 for me. I think the expansion may elevate my interest.
@adrianojedaf4 жыл бұрын
Nope thanks! Targi is a good game buuut... I better stay with the basic game... this one should have been stand alone (as many people have already commented).... I would prefer investing in a new game rather than in this "expansion". good video, by the way.

Why on earth did they not just make this a "second edition"?? Calling this an expansion is very misleading.
@thedicetower2 жыл бұрын
It's an expansion. I'm very confused, it literally can't be played on it's own.

That box is way too big for what comes in the expansion. The industry needs to do better
@wroot_lt4 жыл бұрын
So the name is not just bland, but also misleading. They sell more units as an "expansion" than a second version of a game to existing owners.
