KDM super fan here. First of all this was really fun and entertaining to watch and I hope you guys play it a couple more times. The production that Chris did was absolutely well done on his part. Ill mention a few things that you guys may have missed (or it might have gotten edited out) or simply may be helpful for future runs: 1- FIELD OF VIEW AND INTIMIDATE : field of view is every spot on the map EXCEPT the survivors in the blindspot. (The intimidate size up ai card that the white lion did should not have been able to target the blue haired survivor, or the survivor next to the blue haired as potential targets for his random die roll) 16:54 - 17:05 . The way AI cards work is first you determine the target based on the top section of the ai card, then you do whatever is stated on the bottom side of the card. The reason size up (and other intimidate actions) are tricky is because the targeting is not followed by (move & attack) like most ai cards, and you do not need to be adjacent to the target to do the action. Simply after determining your target the card says to. "turn to face the target" and do etc etc. In this scenario 16:54 what he should have done is: a- Randomly target yellow or brown haired survivor based on a die roll as they are the only ones in his field of view. b- Turn to face target and intimidate them (regardless of how far they are, the monster is simply staring down his prey) by rolling a 1d10 2- GRAB: when you are grabbed you are placed in front of the monster knocked down and suffer x damage to a random hit location (roll hit location die) where x is the level of the monster (in your case that is 1 damage). This damage cannot be dodged 18:40 - 19:10 3- KNOCK DOWN AND STANDING: You stand up at the end of the next monster's turn. This means if you are knocked down on the survivor's turn you will be standing by the beginning of the next survivor's turn. However, if you were knocked down on the monster's turn, you will remain knocked down as your next turn comes as survivors stand up at the end of the NEXT monster turn. On the otherhand, monsters always stand up at the start of their turn 4- AFTERMATH / SCAVENGING when you scavenge the monster for resources you were supposed to get 4 white lion resources (gold deck) and 4 basic resources (blackish grey deck). This should help you build a few more gear than you probably did as the next lion is a bit tougher. 5- SURVIVAL ACTIONS RESTRICTIONS: you cannot use any survival actions during your own attack (you are apparently too preoccupied with attacking to dodge) 6 - SURVIVAL ACTIONS WHILE KNOCKED DOWN : the only thing you can do while knocked down is the dodge survival action (unless a gear or ability states otherwise) 7- COLLISION: if the monster moves through a survivor (collision) that survivor is simply knocked down. Additionally, if the monster lands on a survivor (also referred to as collision), the survivor is knocked down, as well as knocked back 5 steps in the direction in which the monster was moving into. In both instances you suffer no damage unless stated otherwise. If there is an object/edge of the board less than 5 steps in the direction you are knocked back into, simply stop in the space before that object/edge. If you were at the edge of the board/object when the knockback x occured, slide across either side x (your choice) x steps. I do want to mention that regarding strategy and tactical decisions you do need to give it time. As you get more gear, unlock new skills fighting arts weapon proficiencies, innovations etc.. There will be A LOT to think about. The settlement phase can take over an hour just thinking of what combinations of gear you want to place on which survivor and which of those survivors should you take on this next specific hunt. It really does feel like you are building/creating a big civilisation This also applies to combat as your turns will get longer and more thinkier in how you approach the monster, with whom, which weapon, what skills and etc. with many ways to mitigate the RNG If you guys only plan on giving it one more go, you probably will miss out on most of these decisions which is unfortunate but understandable if you are just not into these longer, slow buildup games. But if you play a couple more lantern years, the strategy of the game will definitely start emerging, the decisions will be much more engaging and based on what I've seen, I think you guys will probably enjoy it.

Please up vote/ get this comment to the top. This was so fun to watch and I think the more this group plays the more they will discover. That's where the love for KDM comes from. The discovery of each settlements' story. It is literally a very dark dnd where you enter your own story while the game handles the random events and thematics.

@@adelfaidah3224 Hi, thanks for the reply. I do own Gloomhaven and it’s great but the “world building” and story was weak for me, although I hear it’s much better in Frosthaven. I like the art and sexiness of KDM (very not pc and 2022 so gets a thumbs up from me!), so I think I may go for that, plus it’s actually in stock in the Uk! Are the addons etc important to enjoy the game? Many of them are US only

This is so entertaining....I wish this was a whole new series. Play until you lose or win. Would be amazing. Especially if you showed a little more of the Settlement phase and the hunt phase. The Showdown phase was perfect in this video. There is for sure more to the game than the tutorial gives you, but I am sure there will be many posts about that. Just want to say thank you again because the showdown phase you all showed was one of the most entertaining watch it plays you have done imho.
@robertpower83742 жыл бұрын
Yep if you do continue I hope you don't super speed through the settlement phase and the events. The settlement development is as much a part of the story as the crazy stuff that happens in combat. I'm not sure how at this stage you have obtained an item you can't use? You have full control over what you produce and all the weapons and armour do at least something.
@Straddllw2 жыл бұрын
Yea I just want to see more hunt and settlement phase, I think those phases tell better stories. Also mentioned this already but the part of the game that they didn’t like the rules for is that they didn’t get any major upgrades and therefore too much grinding. This is because they played the rules wrong and didn’t get the regular resources for being the Lion. They should have gotten 8 pieces which would have been enough to gear up.
@Aethernyl2 жыл бұрын
agree, this is frustraing considering their dislike of the perceived "grind" and entirely missing out on how the hunt phase can radically change the fight that follows it. Im all for them not liking this game, but at the very least you need to use the rules as written.

I like the format, reminds me of the Wil Wheton tabletop series! Just remember to get those 4 forgotten basic resources you didn't get there! It makes a huge difference to have 8 resources after the first prologue fight, not just the 4 White Lion resources. You should all have some sort of weapon for the second fight with those 8 resources. Also the fights get more complicated as they go on, players get different fighting arts to differentiate how they fight, and the bosses get extra abilities that you want to plan against. Edit, and for future plays if you do those, the settlement phase, the settlement event and discussions what to upgrade / build are some of the best parts of the game. Please don't cut those out!

That being said, learning how to fight the horrible critter of Kingdom Death is an absolute delight. The more you fight them, the better you're able to exploit the weaknesses built into their attacks and hit locations. It can be a lot of fun, but it is highly dependent on the group. As mentioned below don't forget the basic resources. The only house rule I recommend is that everyone should share the resources. It's really silly to hold on to stuff for each character. Also, you want to get a sword or something fast since the regular lion is very rough. The settlement phase initially is monotonous but afterwards it's essential and you make meaningful choices, which I won't spoil which ones are better. But you have to get those basic resources otherwise the regular lion is going to mop the floor with you. And don't worry, there are more challenges ahead, each very different and even more dangerous. Don't get attached to characters! Level up as many characters as possible, especially if the ones you are using regularly get way too injured or traumatized! Don't even feel bad about consigning useless characters to being breeders. You will lose survivors fast if you only focus on a few and making kids is the only way your settlement will survive, eventually getting the heroes. It's essential. It's a terrible world and you will make terrible choices. Hope to see more because I love this episode!

The Hunt, showdown and settlement phase are all needed, it's a management game where you don't play a particular survivor, you decide which of your settlement you are going to send out to hunt and fight, trying to get a mix of them XP to improve over time so that you don't have all your eggs in one basket (which the game will punish you for, for sure). It's absolutely not a game for novices.

Love this format, the best play through I have seen you all do ... ! thank you I think KDM is definately a lifestyle game and is taken very seriously, but very cool to see it played like this in a much more light hearted way! - PS would be interested in your opinions on Aeon Trespass Odyssey when it comes out.... much more mitigation, more adventure, less dark theme and pre assembled minis... but also similar structure.

The way the DT crew have approached this is the way every game I've played of KDM has played out. Yeah, the theme is all dark and gory but it's not meant to be taken 100% seriously all of the time. Many events, monster behaviours, items etc are meant to be somewhat comedic even if that is sometimes in a juvenile way. Interested in how Aeon Trespass goes too but the thing it will have to beat, and something you can't get a sense of here, is how imaginative and clever the game is with those monster AI and wound decks. All the foes have real personality and also ones that don't fit any fantasy tropes I've ever seen before. Kind of like how Dark Souls, putting the difficulty aside, feels compared to other fantasy games.

Wow, this was the first playthrough I watched beginning to end! Great work. What about Cthulhu Death May Die for the next one since it was high up this year on lists! The Co-Ops are great for these playthroughs.

Really really good editing and I love the choice in players!!!! The dice and card closeups really made this incredibly watchable and much easier to become invested in what I was watching. Dudes, keep this up.. seriously. Once every couple weeks or every month and you guys will be reaching an entirely new audience I think.

Chris, I hope you are proud of your work on this! The Dice Tower crew is always entertaining, and the editing on this video just amplified that all the more. Loved it :)
