The original version of this game is older than I am but I remember playing it at my Aunt's house as a kid. I honestly don't remember much of the details beyond the electronic gizmo which was super cool at the time and that you were trying to catch a thief. I backed the Kickstarter right away basically purely on nostalgia and the developer names attached to it. Glad to see it get a good review.

One of my favorite games as a kid. So much so I programmed a version on a VIC20 (a personal PC with 3.5KB of RAM) way back in the day. Like the movement cards. Glad someone with the funds is doing this. Makes too much sense. Although it's a franchised game, Milton Bradley's 'Daytona 500' may be worth looking into.

I have fond memories of playing the original as a kid. From the overview, it sounds like they kept the rules almost exactly the same, with the exception that investigators use movement cards and are each a little different. But the roll and move was the weakest part of the original, so that sounds like an excellent change.

Pretty much. Also, by adding the asymmetrical movement decks, we also moved the sleuth cards to them.

This is pretty cool, kinda reminds me of Specter Ops, but with an A.I player instead of someone on a notepad and a theme that's appealing to more than gamers. Will keep my eye out for this one when I can as I really enjoy specter ops and will probably enjoy this as well with my family who doesn't play board games like I do.

Nope. It will be released at Gen Con and will be in retail shortly thereafter. Ask your FLGS now; they should be starting to order.

I like app-supported board games ... but I am concerned that these games are only playable as long as the app is live and supported.

I just can't get behind this one. I have an original copy of the 1979 game and this refresh just doesn't melt my butter. I'd much rather have and play the original. I'm biased though because I have fond childhood memories of the original game... so a refresh would need to have all that nostalgia feel for me, which this just doesn't. The original artwork, player pieces, wanted cards, all of it was superior in the original version in my humble opinion. The only benefit/upgrade for me in this is the cell phone app. I'll keep using my 9V powered "crime scanner", and if it breaks, I'll get the cell phone app that works with the old board (which there is one out there).

As a backer of the game I can tell you that that is definitely a possibility. They originally thought to leave that out of the app, but many backers mentioned how they liked that feature so it is in the app at least as an option in the settings screen. At least that's what they told us, I don't have the app yet to see for myself. ;)

No, the thief does not escape in the retail game. And that sucks. What it means is that detectives that aren't close to the thief just ignore the game until the next thief. The closest detective is guaranteed to catch the thief.

3 player videos are better then 1 player videos :-) i don't like hybrid games though, before you know it all players play against each other on their smart phones.

The second edition copy that went to retail stores actually includes a 1-vs-All mode, Cooperative mode, and Solo rules, so 4 ways to play in all!

This looks really cool except for having to use a smartphone app. I really, really do not like board games that make you use an app. Having a unique gizmo in the box sounds much cooler. And I'm so tired of people being glued to their phones. The whole point of board games for us is to have family time away from screens, especially for the kids.

I've never understood this argument. Using the phone as an app for a board game STOPS people from being glued to their phones. It's just a tool, and no one is looking at it - unless it's actually part of the game.
