Because you pay resources to buy cards? That's a mechanism in a LOT of games. But you might be right in putting it in the same company as two of the finest games to do it. And it plays differently enough that I'll be looking to nab this when it drops. Big fan of Imaginarium already, and this looks lighter yet very tactical somehow.

I love the art, but one thing that really makes the theme disconnected is, as in the base game, the names for the resources, such a simple thing. Because the art and the idea of the game all flows well until you get to the resources, which are not much dream-related. If you change their names to fears, cravings, insecurities, memories, then it's more thematically fun to build dream-making machines with those mental elements, instead of wood, crystals, and copper.

I think the issue with the artwork is a little overstated. My wife isn't into "icky" or bizarre things, but loves the original game. The artwork really captures that dream factory feel. Good review though, Zee.

Maybe i need to watch the overview again... i don't see why this is a two player game. Seems like a Splendor-like Euro with nothing that makes it only suited to two players, mechanically i mean. Did i miss something?

Many cards improve your relative position by pushing back your opponent - it's a bit of a tug of war in that regard. If this was a 3P game those kind of plays would typically tend to be more beneficial to the 3rd player who wasn't involved in that take-that interaction. Splendor, while still being a race, is much less interactive.
