I really really loved Quinns being with Tom and Zee. His commentary, conversation, jokes, and intelligent comments complimented Tom and Zee and the games that were talked about. REALLY hope you’re able to have Quinns on more in the future. Really looking forward to him getting more comfortable. He’s so polite and humbly deferential that his personality we love so much becomes a bit dampened.
@stacie_everdell

He's being a proper guest. Kinda like how we behave ourselves when we are guests versus how we act at home. Tom was equally polite when he was invited to SU&SD.
@LatenightLyle
@LatenightLyle 3 жыл бұрын
@@stacie_everdell I understand, but that’s not what makes for the best presentation. It’s better to sound more natural. Tom was respectful when he was on SU&SD but was still fully “Tom”. If anything, Quinns was even more apologetic as a host than he was as a guest. It’s polite, sure; but it would be better to see him more relaxed and naturally “Quinns”.

Interesting watching a video where each of these people are somewhat deferentially uncomfortable with each other. I agree that bit more familiarity would help the chemistry. Hopefully we get to see that and be proven right. Still a great piece of entertainment.
@APieceoftheAction
@APieceoftheAction 3 жыл бұрын
I can completely relate to Quinns in this video. I noticed the change in his behavior too, but you have to remember that SU&SD is scripted to be funny, and top 10s like this are more off the cuff then what he usually does. I think it just showed Quinn's true personality, which, while it might not be as witty as it seems to be on his own channel, is still just as charming.

This was my favorite Top Ten in a long time, particularly because some of the picks were hilarious. Zee: "My pick is a game in which players cough into each others mouths, and see who's the last one to get sick." Quinns: "My pick is Settlers of Catan." Tom: "My pick..." actually, Tom's list was quite sensible this time.

@@Indubitably14 @J R The chemistry between Zee, Tom and Sam was perfect and MAGICAL. Tom is like the Tinker (plays anything if rules are tinkered with), Sam is the Serious one (No party games and like meaty games) and Zee is the Zany one (small, fast, quirky games). I like Quinns actually best in his solo mode since he goes fullblast...well..Quinn. Tom has similar taste to mine but Zee I think has really amazing insights and makes you think games that you might wanna try to play even tho you already know you won't like them yourself ;D

Games that popped into my head: Five Tribes - I don’t think I’ve seen the mancala mechanism applied in two dimensions elsewhere. Photosynthesis - The height/shadow mechanism seems really unusual. This is the best combination of Dice Tower and guests I've seen so far - plus an amazing topic, I ended up with a huge list of things I DEFINITELY want to check out! Amazing games, I had a lot of fun just watching. Plus, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but to me this show was also the result of combining the "Ameritrash" type of humour of Tom and Zee with the "Euro style" of Quinns - amazing result, I haven't laughed so much with these videos since a long time...

It's the same with mmorpgs. Sometimes one game (WoW) brainwashes so many people, that many much better, richer, deeper games have no chance.
@alejandrorivas4585
@alejandrorivas4585 3 жыл бұрын
@@chobe78 this is only valid if you only value depth of play in a game. Its easy to forget the other half of a game, which is the people. Wow is the oldest, most influential, and most populated MMO, and so a lot of people value it for the community it has moreso than the game. Same with the card games. Yeah, maybe netrunner is a more refined game than MTG, but if your friends all play magic, you meet new friends playing magic, if your local spots play magic, then narurally you're gonna wanna spend time with those people playing something everyone enjoys. For many, community is more important than game quality.
@chobe78
@chobe78 3 жыл бұрын
@@alejandrorivas4585 Not talking about that... When new MMO's were released they HAD the players and a community. Your reason played absolutely no role here. But then the WoW expectations made them return and THAT'S what annoyed me for several years. People just knew one single sort of mmorpg and expected everything from this in every other one. Surprise surprise they were disappointed. It's great that this weird habit stopped at some point in gaming history and other great games had a chance of continue existing.

Root is pretty original and I'm a long time wargamer and totally fine with the pick! I like Vast more and find it even more original than Root, although there are some similarities, they are quite different, and being able to play as the cave or the manor (depending on which version you are playing), is one of the most unusual and interesting things I've ever seen. If you want a space hog, try World in Flames! I love that game so much, but with the maps, force pools, and production charts, we had 2 4x8 tables and at least 3 cafeteria tables to play it on! Love me some Cosmic Encounter! Need to play it more. It's great seeing you all together like this, if we had NPI as well it would be even better!

The only trick-taking-adjacent (it's a climbing game, which are related but not the same) game in my collection is Maskmen, which has the unique twist that the cards have no inherent values at the start of each hand. The act of playing is what determines which cards are ranked high or low and it resets each hand.
