I had the pleasure of meeting her after her performance in Sweeny Todd in 1976. The stagehand took me up to her dressing room. She came out in her robe, her wig was off and I was a bit taken aback. I remember standing before her and I am 5'7 and had to look up to her. She had the largest blue eyes! Most importantly, she grabbed my hand and asked me how I liked the show. She was so gracious and down to earth. I never expected to meet her when I went into the show. Simply marvelous!

Her daughter was in with the Manson gang. Dame Angela rescued both her children by moving to Ireland. It wasn't a topic she talked about.I was surprised that she answered Cavett's questions as honestly as she did. Barbara Walters sandbagged her by asking her about the move in her interview in 1985. It had been previously agreed that Barbara wouldn't ask about Angela's kids' problems.

Thank you for elaborating! I was so curious as to what her kids got into that she moved them to Ireland. Fascinating backstory...her change in mood during that topic makes sense now. She was noticeably uncomfortable.

Her daughter Deirdre was not a 'member' of the Mansion Family but a target like a number of kids of famous people. The gang would charm them for money. In this case once Angie found out she cut all credit cards. The gang moved on. Luckily for them. That time in Malibu and the sixties drug use was rife. All the kids were dabbling in it. Angie and Peter decided to get away from the temptations esp after their house burnt down in a wildfire. Angie set up the home in Ireland and the kids followed and Peter went once he finished some business ties. Best decision for the whole family.

Mame had a 4th tour in 1969-1970, and played Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln NE for 1 night only on November 16, 1969. Sheila Smith, who played the role on Broadway sometime after Angela Lansbury had left, launched the tour in the title role, though several other actors would take on the role during its 55 city-stop run over the course of a short 10 months. It was, as far as my sources are concerned, the only time a national tour of the show ever came to Nebraska.

I've seen a few of Dick Cavett's interviews now, and his style seems to be a mix of casual and awkward. Does anyone know, who watched these shows when they originally aired, if this style was in vogue at the time? I know his show was quite popular. I like that he is friendly and doesn't push people, but at the same time, to not have researched his guests (or simply had his staff do it) seems a little lazy and disrespectful.
