Thanks for the video. I own a Mark III, which replaced a Mark I. I have been photographing since I was 12 - 71 years ago, and was lucky enough to own most of the great cameras - from Minox to 5x7 Linhof Technica. The Sony Mark III is one of the great ones! Better workmanship than the Leica or Hasselblad. Yes, it takes time to get the hang of it - but it's worth it. Great cameras like this are marked by the pleasure one gets in simply holding it. The Rolleiflex was a prime example. It is a joy to see that the making of exquisite cameras is alive and well. Jeff Pemberton Wilton, CT

F.Y.I., if you keep the power button pressed while you push down the electronic viewfinder, the camera DOES NOT turn off.

Thanks for the update. I had a Mark II last year for a few weeks, sold it at a good price, and I am glad I did, since you now get much better value in the Mark III. I saw your original review, which was very thorough and informative. I liked the rubber grip addition, and there are people offering a good looking wood grip, comparable to the one found on the Hasselblad clone, the STELLAR. Are you familiar with that Hasselblad model? I look forward to watching your future videos.

I've seen somewhere that if you hold down the on off button as close the viewfinder the camera will say on. Good review I have just ordered one.

Meant to mention in earlier post that the camera MUST have grips so the camera doesn't slip from your hands. It wants to do that. I affixed four small male velcro pads to it - front and back, top and bottom. I also did that with my Mark I - works like a charm. Do it. Jeff Pemberton Wilton, CT

I have no idea of this is true, but I heard someone say that if you hold down the power button while pushing down the viewfinder it would not shut the camera off. Maybe something to try.

I watched a lot of these Sony rx100m3 videos and read a lot of the comments, only one comment in all of those videos mentioned that, while the person who made the video wasn't aware of this, seems like Sony should make this more known because it's a minor complaint for a lot of people.

hey i know it's 3 years later haha but I just got this camera used under $400 with the grip. You can get a mark 1 or mark 2 of this one for even less! Still WAY better than a brand new point and shoot with a 1/2.3" size sensor. Trust me.

I need your advice sir...so i really love to travel and i am looking for the overall best pocket sized camera. I really like this sony rx100m3 but one major feature its lacking....2.9x optical zoom. I use the zoom option a lot when traveling, do you know of a pocket sized camera that has the image quality, oled viewfinder that is as good as this sony rx100m3 but with more optical zoom? I dont know how lenses work but is it possible to have this rx100m3 image quality with great low light performance and with a high zoom like 20x or more? What would be your recommendation?

The lens is not an f1.8 throughout its range. At 70mm The f stop is 2.8.

Not at all. I appreciate correction where it is needed. I had a brain fart during filming. I am all about accuracy. I am a perfectionist unfortunately. I don't script anything as you may have noticed, so when I do make a mistake, I want to know.The RX10 is a great camera as you already know. Great review. I'm still torn between getting this and the Sony HX90V for the 30x zoom but want the better lowlight ability. I have a Galaxy S6 with f1.9 so want a camera that takes photos like that. Please help!

Jamie S I don't have this camera but I did have the HX90V for a day before returning when I saw the low light performance. If zoom is the focus then it is great but the low light performance of the HX90V suffers. In the light, it's amazing though and the flash works well. The view finder looks very clear and is beneficial when needed but again, it's all up to what you value more. I hope that helps at least from the standpoint of the hx90v.

David Marrett Thanks David, I actually went ahead and bought a RX100 MK 3 and I love it. Unfortunately it had a dead pixel (white) in the LCD screen out of the box so I have to return it for a replacement.

The f/1.8 to f/2.8 is actually somewhat misleading. But all manufacturers does this. The 24 to 70mm is the 35mm equivalent. But the f/1.8 to 2.8 is not. This shoul also by multiplied with the 2.8 crop factor to get the realy value. Hence at 70mm it is not f/2.8 as you can clearly see on the depth of field which is much larger than it should be. But as I said, all small cameras does this cheating. Just be carefull if you compare with an DSLR and the DOF. I do have an RX100 iii and it is great.

just got one on ebay with the grip for $390. can't wait, selling my A7 for it since I like never use the A7 but want something to put in a large pocket. Better to use RX100 M3 than my galaxy S6!

The camera is fantastic, as I use it for my newspaper work with a major city publication. One error in this review: the lens is not 1.8 through the zoom range, as it runs 1.8 to 2.8.

Robert Klein do you have any online archive with your street work with equipment? I use Nex7 + 35mm 90% of my time and though it fits in a pocket of a winter jacket, well, when it is not winter I have to carry a small sling bag. Though I haven't retired the DSLR, it is enjoying a fairly long time at home.

Hello I'm looking into buying a camera, I don't know much about them. I will be buying an iPhone 6 but I don't want to rely on that. If you could please guide me the right way. Let me tell you I'll be using it mainly for electronic music festivals, so it needs to capture great audio,video, but I want to take high quality pictures while recording as well. I've done research on this sony m3 and looks good but is there any other options that may be cheaper, I know this camera has a lot of features, but frankly I won't use them all that much.i would need: good battery life,good video & pics at night, regular zoom, good audio.i would appreciate a response thank you.

I don't mind it turning off when I close the viewfinder. It does stay on if you hold down the power button. "Missing moments" happen to me all the time. But, it doesn't have to be a problem, and I don't think Sony should "fix" this. I prefer it.

Joni Gamble the WiFi setting in the camera is for transferring pictures to the phone , in order to upload to the internet? What is the main features of M2 WiFi setting? Since not all model got WiFi

Had 2 problems with build quality The selfie screen remained inverted, got that fixed, then the EVF could not stay closed Eventually got sony to replace with a new unit One more thing - transferring pics via WiFi is made unnecessarily complicated with Play memories

For not power camera down if EVF is pull off you can hold down power button and than close EVF and camera will stay on...;-)

Hey!! what about Canon G7X !!! From what i gather it has almost identical specs to this Sony! What differentiates them is that the Sony has an EVF (which the Canon does not) and the lens in Canon can reach up to 100mm equivalent (the Sony can reach only up to 70) without any additional loss of light and is quite a beat cheaper at launch than the Sony!!
