Thanks for this review Cody, been waiting for your take on Arrakis. I'm very keen on this one as well. It was sad to hear that combat alliances cannot be negotiated with trade items. I think this should just be a house rule... Or a sietch rule! :P

They play very differently. Gun to my head I’d take Conquest and Diplomacy.

It depends on what kind of games they like. If they want an epic 4+ hour area control experience with six players, the 1979/2019 Dune is the way to go. If you’re looking for a shorter, more streamlined version of that, look at Conquest and Diplomacy. If you want a worker placement deck-builder, try Dune Imperium. Social deduction, try Dune Betrayal. If you’re look for area control with deterministic combat and resource management in area control in under two hours, this is the one for you.

@@Coyotehello Can recommend Dune Imperium, it's a nice hybrid game. It's a new game so many videos and people you can ask on BGG, second expansion upcoming so still have content being made for it.

More serious question: from what I see there isn't much of a chance for this to be satisfying solo (which it doesn't purport to be, but sometimes I can do the two, three, four handed approach). Am I correct, or could this be an interesting solo exercise?

@@garicb9271 Well potentially if you go far into the past and do all the houses, but anything past dune doesnt really make much sense , at least in terms of TI4 . That game has 25 factions. In Dune theres really nobdoy that stands up to the atreides empire past the first book. By GEOD its just a bunch of bugs swarming around letoii trying to get crumbs
