Cheers for the awesome review of my expansion! It was a daunting experience creating expansions for an existing game, my background so far has been mostly co-op games, Doctor Who Time of the Daleks and Aliens Another Glorious Day In The Corps being my two big games. I'm glad players are liking my alliance rules. I also snuck in the Breen expansion with the justification that it would let players truly re-enact the actual Dominion War.

Another Jeffrey Combs faction joins Star Trek: Ascendancy, nice! That makes... I think 3, right? The Alliances aspect of this expansion really does change things up. I haven't played with an even number of players yet, partially because I was worried about game length with 4 or (eek) 6. But somehow the Alliance side of it seems like it would keep things moving along. And plus, I love team-based games.

So, what is your ranking now for purchasing the expansions? Are the Cardassians still the best pick for someone wanting to go beyond the base game or has the Dominion wiggled its way to the top?

The building phase and command phase getting broken up into separate parts of your turn is different. It took me reading the rules several times to catch this.

You could not play the Dominion War scenario with the Borg, but if you're just playing with the Dominion as a faction, it should work okay. I haven't tried it.

How do you play this game and have it not drag on for four or five hours? I find that it plays really slow.

Depends on who you play with. Do you or your friends suffer from AP? You need to be able to consider you moves ahead of time.

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Long story short, he doesnt like "complex" games, as isnt a Trekkie sop the theme doesnt sway him in the slightest. HE has said that the whole "resource thing" gets his goat. Ah well, we played a lot of LOTR Journeys, which would seem to be even more complex than this!
