errr yes! I stupidly thought there would just be 3 wires and it would be a simple switch. Like, how did he know which wire went into which block in the new rose? Why can't they (manufacturers) colour-code these things?!

How can you tell exactly which wire is and does what? They obviously don't have writing or symbols on them? For example, there may be 3 of the same colored wire, but the way you explained it is that each individual wire has a specific purpose? If I am over thinking this, then I think you need to simplify how you're explaining this for the first timers of changing or upgrading a ceiling light fixture.
@turnerm87
@turnerm87 4 ай бұрын
One other thing. Why is it that the original rose fitting had multiple same color wires, but you've essentially funneled them into 1 per color? Why don't all newbuild house lights just have the 1 wire per color?

I did this but used Wago blocks, which make it even easier. Offer a very secure ‘click in’ and ‘click out’ for the wires which saves on the fiddly connection with traditional blocks and I think is actually stronger/more reliable.

I'd recommend anyone doing this as a DIYer to use a volt pen. They're not too expensive. I double and triple check to see if the pen is working first so that I'm absolutely certain before touching anything.

Not sure if i missed the explanation. Wondering why all the live wires were grouped together and taped off?
@kamran3013
@kamran3013 6 ай бұрын
Basically the Live wires that were grouped together bring the power in and out so it wouldn't need to connect to the pendant, the wires that power the bulbs were the live and neutral which were connected in the pendany

Any non-sheathed cables need to have mechanical protection, e.g. in an enclosure like a junction box or the light fitting itself. In this case it didn't look like he actually tucked them up in the ceiling, but enclosed them within the light fixture base, which is fine and compliant with the regs.

Great videos!, I just need help with something, I had to replace my ceiling rose as my new light fitting is smaller than the rose. so I have installed the Wago clips, however the problem I have is like your set up here my ceiling rose has three cables coming through the rose, basically it has 2 neutrals connecting into one connector like you did, however with the Wago clips you cant put two neutral wires into one hole on the wago, so I assumed by putting it into a 4 way wago clip so each neutral is now in its own connector, because there are 4 neutral cables including the cable to the light fitting, however since I have wired it up my living room light wont come on, in fact it has tripped the fuse switch. So is it because the two neutral wires aren't connected as one, and if so what would you recommend to do as the wago doesnt work with two wires in one hole, if its not that what could be causing the other light to trip off?!

I am trying to fit a German light similar to yours in Ireland which seems to have the same system as the UK. The wires are extremely short, I had hardly enough space to get my screwdriver in and I could not really see anything, because I was a bit too short. Once I has wired everything up nothing happened… no light… 🙄 Now I know how to extend the length of the wires and can give it another try rather than having to give up and live without a ceiling light in my bedroom. Thank you so much! Could you please also do a video on how to connect an induction hob? There is no socket and no box, the wires of the current hob are somehow directly connected to the wires in the wall and stuck together with a lot of duct tape.

I'm about to have go and watching this video it seems that the switch live is probably connected to the normal lives. @6:23 you put the switch live in its OWN terminal block, separately from the lives. What did you do with the 3 LIVE wires when you connected the earth, neutral and switch live to the pendant? I only saw 3 terminal blocks as you were doing it at the end, but there should have been 4 (Switch live, live, neutral and earth) Were getting a fishy smell coming from it which is bad news.

Good video. I've just had to replace the downstairs cloakroom light and there are even more wires! Cables to the extractor fan too. Unfortunately the light fitting has a large flat disc as the base plate so there is nowhere to put cables - they all need to go into the roof cavity. I've used Wago's for this and shoved them all up through the hole as you show here. But do they need to they need to go into a protective box? I thought wires just in their sheath should not be exposed? If I do need a box, can you recommend one that will fit through an enlarged but reasonably small hole in the ceiling. Thank you SO MUCH. I was worried about the terminal blocks I bought being WRONG! Piece of ... pie when you see it done, NOT a spaghetti junction nightmare!

If they where all the same then it would be alot easier but i guarantee that I'll go to do mine and it will be completely different?.. at witch point my head will fall off 🤯

Very informative video. Thank you. 👍 I find that my consumer unit trips when connecting the wires. Any ideas?

Quick question, what if you have 2 of every wire. But only 3 ports in your new light fixture?

Maybe its just me here as i'm about to try to do mine after watching this video, but... you haven't shown the switch wire being connected back up? it's tucked up into the ceiling & yet your light works fine apparently (not actually shown) does this wire need to be connected or not?

Looks to me he has connected the switch wire, but then just put the other lives into a block and insulated it. I don’t understand why they aren’t used and can’t seem to find an answer 😢

@@Loub230 The live wires were connected to each other as a LOOP connector block There were 3 cables One bringing the power to this pendant Second providing power to the switch Third would be the loop from one pendant to another Since they are connected to each other through a connecter block they don't need to be connected to this pendant The power to the bulb comes from the live terminal on the pendant not the LOOP
