What a great discussion with the emphasis on basic good nutritious foods. Great to hear such a common sense approach .

IMO, weight loss diets don't work because they are overly restrictive (cannot make tasty meals), keep people hungry due to severe caloric restriction, are not personalized, and do not focus on food quality and diversity. What works much better is to develop a positive relationship with food, which leads to lasting health benefits. To do that, we must 1. personalize the diet using the person's data, 2. focus on whole foods (not processed foods), and 3. increase plant consumption. This approach enables people to eat to fullness, not feel like they are always hungry, have a huge choice of meals, get all the nutrients they need (and not the ones that are harmful), and simply enjoy the cooking/eating experience.

Did you listen to the video at all? He basically said all of that.

Excellent discussion. So important. I now understand everything I have done wrong in the past and exactly what to do to be healthy and lose weight at intervals and maintenance. Thank you so mich

Thanks to you both. I would be interested in your thoughts, Nick and Rupy, on research done for women in Menopause. Joint pain and muscle loss means exercise is harder to achieve as there is more pain, diets don't work at all thanks to hormone changes. Is interval weight loss and minimal, light exercise enough for this group of women, or do they find weight loss and weight management a plateau for many months? As we are living longer on average than in prehistoric times, this feast and famine approach to eating is not conclusive.

Really helpful. I’ve been on the Zoe programme and have had significant weight loss, not through trying but focussing on more plants and variety. I’m worried now I’ll go back up the “V”!!

I'm the same way; if there are potato chips in the house I will consume them...ALL of them! I don't purchase any processed foods, so I don't eat them.

How does this theory stack up with those people who have lost 25% of their body weight and kept it off for ten years or so? It can, and does happen. They may be outliers, but how have they overcome what is being described as solid science?

They are the 2% who can achieve this. Not great examples. (That’s an actual Statistic)
