@@toddb3394 We have a cat that keeps an eye on our cul-de-sac and alerts us by growling if someone appears in our street and especially close to our home. Our big dog wags his tail as if he’s saying ‘welcome, welcome - take anything you want’. We just hope his size is a deterrent. 😆 Luv em to bits. This family was so lucky to be ‘chosen’. My cat was an abandoned pet who chose me. He just wouldn't take no for an answer and after a couple of months I finally relented and let him move in...best decision I ever made. I'm older and live alone and for the last 7 years my orange Garfield has given me a reason to wake up every morning; I am so lucky to have him in my life.

Aren't we. I have a bonded pair of cat siblings & it's amazing how close they are. But I'd wanted an orange cat like I was losing. But got a wonderful tabby that curls up in my arms for hours & a beautiful calico that loves being nearby & sitting on me. But I did admit to the universe that I'd consider a very special probably orange cat as a third cat. I now have a big cuddly senior Tigger. Who while orange is very different from my last orange kitty. He was a friend's former cat & the guys who had him suddenly decided to get rid of their cats. I'm so glad I got him. He had a very severe case of ear mites & a palm size mat on his back. I took my time in cutting that off & picking at it. But he's doing good now & my calico Harlequin is taking to him. Now if only my boy Micah would stop occasionally picking on him. I don't know what I'd do without my kitties. I'm disabled so I spend most of my time with them unless I'm visiting a friend for a couple of days & I bought a camera just so I could watch over them. They're my family, best friends & babies all in one. Best thing I've ever done is having a savings account specifically for vet bills. I recently had to take Tigger in & it was so nice knowing I'd scrimped enough to save enough for that. Although now he does need to be on a urinary tract diet just like my older orange kitty. It won't hurt the others to get it too & I've started leaving out multiple water bowls & adding some hot water to their daily third of a can of food. Still don't know how I got talked into daily canned food. It was supposed to be a treat. But oh well it's a good source of extra water since cats don't drink enough. Sorry for the essay I just got home & I'm trying to distract myself from an achy back/neck/muscles etc.

I came home late on one of the hottest days of summer three years ago and found an orange cat sitting at my doorstep.. He was abandoned and starving.. I opened the door and let him in and ran to the store for some kibble and can food.. He ate an entire can of Friskies, some kibble, and some milk.. He jumped on the bed when he was done and layed out across my chest.. I have had many cats over the years but my Phoenix is the sweetest boy I have ever had.. He's fat and healthy now and is my best friend in the world.. He really loves his snuggles with me and follows me around all the time.. I really love my stray baby! ❤

We have cats in my neighborhood that used to live in my new house where they had a crazy cat lady as an owner. They are in and out cats and get fed by the neighborhood.

@@theresaakins2317 when we moved to Mountain House in April of 08 it was right before the financial crisis happened. And at one point, because there were only 3500 homes (roughly) in the community, we were the highest for foreclosures in the country. And sooooo many people left and just left their animals. Cats and dogs.... At one point we were caring for 7 or 8....with other neighbors helping.... Until TNR programs could be set up.... When my parents moved from California to Arizona several years ago, one of their cats got out while we were loading the uhaul, problem was she had been sedated as the other cats had. We moved heaven and earth to get her back. We literally tore patio boards out, very carefully, in the next door neighbors backyard, where she was hiding at one point, as well as their front porch. And yes we put it all back with zero damage. It was pouring rain and in the low 40s....rare snowstorm we wound up catching up to later on in the trip. We weren't able to catch her that day, however the neighbors said they'd keep an eye out for her, and we left the back sliding glass door open for her, as well as a friend of my brother's went to the house everyday, until she was caught. My dad drove back to California (northern), a 12 plus hour drive each way, to get her and took her back to AZ..... Such a stark contrast.... And I know people get into situations and the animals come last at times. I just wish they would make the effort to surrender them to their local humane society instead... You know.... But thank you for taking care of your community cats as well.... I'm a dog mom but have had cats on and off my entire life, and they deserve to be treated better.... Yes they can survive a bit easier than dogs but they both deserve our love, appreciation and care....

my parents and I moved into a house that came with a cat who made a couple mile journey from its new home to ours twice before we took it on. The original cats family brought its bed, food and bowls and the cat spent 3-4 years with us before passing away

Patches was content being a mostly outdoor cat -- right up until whatever happened that caused her to be injured. After that, she figured, "Y'know, these people are taking good care of me and trying to bring me inside. Maybe that's a good idea!" Smart cat. Found a nice family and realized where she was better off. Love her colors, too!

My calico died yesterday( at a ripe old age). Her name was Betty...she did the same thing...she chose our family about 16 years ago...she was a few years old already living at another home in the neighborhood...apparently she "ran away" and picked us to be her new family. That other family never cared about her ...I told them she was at my house and they just said "OK." Best cat ever...she was fierce. Protective. Independent. Loving. Loved dogs and hammocks....miss her already. .

when our 5 animals (2 dogs 3 cats) all passed, we grieved each one with much sadness. vowed never again would our hearts be broken like that. i was told NO MORE ANIMALS. we have 3 cats again and im working on the stray outside lol. ive gotten her fixed vaccinated microchipped, and tamed to point of letting me pet her and pick her up but noone else. i sit with her outside while she eats to protect her from other animals and pet her while she eats. shes a beautiful little tuxedo and my cats have all smelled her, seen her, and vice versa so im hoping there wont be too long of adjustment with each other once i do get her indoors. i dont care what my hub says, i already love her and even tho he said no cats, when he needs attention, guess who he looks for, THE CATS. lol

Heart breaking seeing a cat injured, I remember mine coming home with a big chunk out of his nose it felt like he slept for a week curled up in a ball in the same spot bless him. I would go down and sit in front and chat to him and he would stare with his beautiful big eyes.

She's so much safer as a 💯% indoor cat. Because of traffic, animal & human predators, outside she has a 2-5 year life expectancy. Indoor she has 12-15-18--- life expectancy. She instantly knew that you were "her" family! 💕💞♥️ 🐈

Hope the owner sees this. We had a cat named patches, she was small only 6 pounds or so her entire life and she lived to 19 years old. I miss her a lot but we have 3 cats now and one dog, all rescues. The only male cat we have ever had was abandoned in our court during the early pandemic and we took him because he was so sweet. Took awhile for him to adjust living with other animals but now they're one big family most of the time.

That's pretty much how my family adopted all of our cats growing up. Either they were found via some unexpected life event, or they just showed up at our back door and became part of the family. All lived long and happy lives. RIP.
