I had a big grey tabby hanging on our property spraying every five feet. I humanely trapped him, neutered him, named him Mister, and released him back on our yard. He hung out and ate and never sprayed again. One day he walked in thru the slider crying for help. His neck was ripped open. Off to the vet for stitches, etc. He never left the house/yard and was the cuddliest cat we ever had. He loved to be held and purred in his sleep. He would greet everyone who came over and slept on his back between us every single night. I miss him so much.

@@sanjogh777 All non-feral cats aren't cuddly, so it doesn't seem likely that all feral ones are. Grandpa Mason, for example, the famous feral kitten carer, never really bonded to humans in the three years he lived at a kitten rescue. The main thing is, she loves the cat she's got, however he turns out to be with her, and that's great to see.

My neighbors had a little black shorthair. She would spend the day flying around my yard and mooching food from the bowls I put out for local strays. On the phone with my bro, I mentioned that she'd be 'mine someday.' When my neighbors moved to Texas, they hesitantly asked if I could take her. I just laughed. I don't think I actually had anything to do with the match; she just picked me. We have an understanding: all pizza boxes are hers.

A feral female I named Mama Cat started visiting me because I left a can of tuna out on the porch of the vacant house next door. Mama Cat turned out to be pregnant. For whatever reason, maybe because she was pregnant, she would come to me and let me hold her. One time she brought me a drumstick from someone's trash. She had her kittens and an owl got all but one of them (I need him Baby Kitty, because I'm original that way). Because I was so upset about the owl I got a wire pet carrier with a solid top and made a bed in there for Mama Cat and Baby Kitty. Baby Kitty would never let us touch him(her), and would hiss at me anytime I came near. I was never able to bring Mama Cat and Baby Kitty into the house because I had a dog who was very anti-cat.

I always feel like if you let your cat go outside, there's a 50/50 chance of them coming home, in one piece. Never liked those odds, so I keep mine safe, inside. There's a family behind me that used to let their cats out. I'd see them dead, all over the area we live in, which is insanely busy! Never understood it.

@@qmnnvrdyz8965 I agree somewhat cause I do also think it cruel to keep a cat indoors their whole life especially with their wild instincts. I only let mine out back (where it's just gardens, the front is where the street is) and because they're all spay and neutered they don't wander. Fixing your pets makes all the difference. They don't wander as far.. All 10 of mine are always within hearing distance, so if I call them they come running. If you lived in a culdysac that would also be ok to let them out, it's a lot less dangerous. But to NEVER let a cat go outside is cruel imo.. If you live in an apartment, try getting them used to walking on a leash, or allow them on the patio.. SOMEHTING...

@@qmnnvrdyz8965 - My boy started life as a stray; an outdoor cat. And when I adopted him at the age of 6 months it was extremely difficult to keep him inside so I had to let him out. About three or four years ago he came home badly bitten requiring medical intervention. When it happened again about 8 months later he became a full time indoor cat with no exceptions. It took him months to get used to it without constantly nosing at the door and crying to go outside but it was worth the effort. Mango is 12 now and perfectly content to sit in my lap or in the window smacking his lips at the birds or howling at the enemy cats outside who are invading his territory. One day he wasn’t there, so I thought he had been hit by a car and died. I drove the neighborhood looking for him and on my way back, I saw him slowly limping towards our house. I had to use a trap to catch him, then take him to the vet. His front legs were badly injured by a fox or raccoon. I sat with him and gave him medicine morning and night. We kept him in a really big dog kennel until his tests came back and he healed completely. We saved his front legs and he became my little buddy after that. Way to go sweetie! I have some neighborhood ferals I and other folks have been feeding for years. One if em I just called big boy never let me get close to him when I fed them. It was every bit of 5 years of feeding them almost every day when I sat down close to where I put their food down one day he came over and started checking me out he finally let me touch him without acting scared. Its a couple years later now I can call him and he'll come over and lay down and enjoy scratches and pets as long as I pet him. He even started plopping down and want belly rubs too. Never was around a cat that liked belly rubs. Some of the neighborhood strays cant get enough pets, head scratches and back rubs once they find out how great they feel. You just let them learn at their pace then they cant get enough.

Wonderful that she made a connection with Mr. Crab. To concur the fears of a feral cat is NOT an easy task. (I assume that the other cat that her neighbor had been feeding didn't make it since she was crying when she told Angela about the car hitting the cats.)Took a long time, but worth it in the end. Hope ya'll have a healthy/happy life together.

@@philiptownsend4026 In this case, I think the correction was necessary. It's not just a typo or a spelling issue. It's the _wrong word._ Moreover, "concur" and "conquer" are both verbs, making the error more confusing than it might otherwise be if they had been different parts of speech, because then the error would've been more obvious. I myself had to stop and think and reread the sentence to figure out what the commenter meant. So in a case like this, there's nothing wrong with making a necessary correction, as long as it's done nicely, without insults or condescension. It also benefits the commenter (and possibly other readers), who will hopefully learn from the experience. "Concur" means to agree, while "conquer" means to vanquish, i.e. win, as in a battle. If we keep our minds open, we can all learn something. 🙂

@@Milesco OK Sir, maybe in this case the correction was justified but I do wonder if the original writer was pleased to see it and agreed. People making unnecessary corrections to comments come across as frowning disciplinarian schoolteacher types correcting an English language pupils homework. As if trying to belittle someone's contribution and make them feel small. Not nice

Well Done, Angela. Your love and patience taught Mr. Crabs it was safe to hand in his feral card. I don’t know what it is about feral Toms - maybe an adaptation to cold weather, but so many of them have those slightly larger, wide faces, that are just so gorgeous and kissable. I hope Mr. Crabs can live out the rest of his life as a much-loved member of your family. He is a VERY handsome boy.

I read that the side, thick pieces are to act as "shields" for the face. Apparently an unaltered, mature male cat develops some characteristics of a "tom cat". Once altered, some of those physical features decrease and cat can be mellower. I think the Tom features are quite nice looking.

Its a hormonal adapdation that causes their jaws to swell from countless bouts of fighting with other unneutered toms outside. The most alpha tom is the one with the largest face but one of the most affectionate cats we ever had as a family was a great big black British short hair tom, always quick to anger and yet at the first sign of anyone becoming afraid or sad, he'd jump up on your lap and rub his huge face into yours. My mother was never a cat person (despite my dad adopting well over 8 strays (to my knowledge) over the course of their marriage. My dad would literally walk home and be followed by a stray. However this big black cat literally determined that my mother would love him no matter what and hed follow her into the bathroom every morning, sit in the mat beside her whilst she had her bath every morning before work. She had never directly fed him but this cat was determined. They were all devasted when he died at 14 but he'd lived a very well loved life with us, as did all our cats. Both my mum, dad and uncle (the family I grew up with), have now passed on but I've now inherited my late dads cat and she's just begun to be very affectionate with me after 2 years since my dads passing.

Thank you so much for taking him in. I took in a female feral cat 13 years ago. It took her quite awhile to learn to trust us but she eventually did. She is a sweetie. She sits on my lap regularly, meows at me when she wants something, goes out in the yard and comes running when I call her name. It is amazing the two female cats I took in both came running to me when I called their names. I feel so blessed to have them in my life.

Bless you in every way possible. I feed three feral communities in my area and, I'm one of the first to admit, that loving a feral is almost a completely "one-sided" arrangement lol. Off the bat they don't trust, and they are on guard, but certainly this is the case when all you've known are screams, shouts, things being thrown at you and in some cases even abuse. It's a long process, as you came to know, but one of the most rewarding. Because, when that feral finally realizes he can approach you or even let you touch him/her, even for the slightest second, it's the entire world of emotions that overflow you and your heart just about bursts w excitement. Thank you for seeing the beauty and perfection in a fat and dirty looking cat, thank you for not abandoning him in his times of need and thank you for deciding to make room in your life for him. You are one of the rarest of people, you gave love and didn't expect to get it back, but you gave it anyways. That is a rare virtue and I'm glad Mr. Crabs came across someone the possess it.
