Way too many dogs were left in Nam 😔 my grandfather tried to bring his Rottweiler home in the end but wasn't allowed.. They said it was too much of a liability to allow dogs "trained to kill" to go into normal homes after 🤦 thankfully though, they've changed that & now most of the dogs get to live out their retirement ! I don't think just ANYBODY should be able to keep dogs like that though. Should be a handler they're already comfortable with OR, someone who at least has the experience to handle a dog like that.

I’m so overjoyed that this brave dog was reunited with the soldier who served our country together. It made me cry. All of these military service dogs should never be left behind; as is THE BIG OFFENSE IN KABUL. Over 150 dogs were put in cages in the staggering heat and left behind. Please contact PETA and send them your comments and outrage regarding decisions made by commanders who have never been involved on the ground fighting for our involvement in countries that don’t even want us to be involved with their conflict. THIS IS AN ATROCIOUS SITUATION AND WE ALL NEED TO REACH OUT TO STOP THESE PROCEDURAL PROBLEMS. This is a joyful, sweet reunion. Let our soldiers who served in Afghanistan be reunited with their best pals who served alongside them. HUMANITY MATTERS!!!! JW in Fair Oaks CA

I totally agree. That little boy is who the dog saw as his little man. Same thing happened with a german shepard pup I bought for myself. Had her at 5wks old an after injection period I started training her one on one for months. Yet first time out as a family with my 3 kids. She choose my youngest son who was a 16month old toddler. She followed him everywhere an took him to bed if he fell asleep on the rug. She would slide herslf under him an gently carry him to bed. Id see neither till breakfast. I may have lost my dog to him. Yet that beautiful friendship lasted 14yrs till she passed 3 years ago. My son would love another GSD now. Its taken this long for him to get over his broken heart. Yet Tasha protected my baby from any harm including 3 dog attacks by 2 staffies an 1 huge rottie who she ripped to shreds as it was sent on Tash an she was stood next to my then 2yr old so she was still a pup herself. She may have killed that rottie but if she hadnt it could have been my son who got hurt as he had her lead. She lay down as rottie charged at her till it was nearly infront of her the rose to seize its throat. One bite kill. She earned a big T-bone that day. When dogs an kids bond its astounding to see. R.I.P our beautiful Tasha. Always missed yet NEVER forgotten 😭😭😭💔💔💔💕💕

I ALWAYS, always cry when i watch such videos, always happy tears seeing how much some people love their pets and would never, ever leave or forget about them. God bless this man and his beautiful family for never forgetting about Bakk and the sacrifice he made by working for 7 years and not enjoying actually being a dog.

I just love to see the military dogs get to go home to the ones who raised , worked & loved them overseas. For them to be able to handle being around little ones & loving them. The people that make this happens r awesome. 🥰💕💗❤️

Yeah and just as the video cut out he started moving. One wonders if he was moving down to the position under the ledge. GSD's are smart enough to try to anticipate problems and I've known them to either get into position to guide the child away from danger, or set themselves up so they can break the ckild's fall

Bakk seems doesn't know how to not working lol.. He seems to take upon himself the responsibility of ensuring the kid's safety. You can see how he's on full allert around the kid. Henry just got the most trusted and reliable guardian. Lucky kid.

It amazes me how well these dogs are trained. Happy, friendly, and lovable with their trainer and every one the trainer regards as their people as well. Yet, on command will give their life for their trainer. That takes a hell of a special relationship between two very different souls and species. Incredible!

I'm so glad Bakk is out of stressful military assignment. I don't know if Bakk only stayed in South Korea or if he faced duty in a war zone. I'm just happy he is safe and home. God Bless Bakk. God Bless America.

It's a good story. Most military dogs retirement home is a kill shelter. That's not quite as good a story i know, but it is one that needs to be told, cause these dogs deserve better. I'm pretty sure they earned it.

basquat76 ,. This is a travesty. You are right that this needs to be public knowledge. Had no idea, but guess that I should not be surprised when they were abandoned in Vietnam. How can we do something about this so that they can be adopted with first offer to the person they served with on assignment ? DoDo can you help? The Armed Forces could certainly make this happen.

We just had a former handler, US Army, that served in Afghanistan, reunited with his working dog he had while he was deployed there... We, as a group, reviewed the rules of the VFW and have made him, the Military Working Dog, a full lifetime member, in good standing of course, with our local VFW. I hope this MWD can also become a member of the VFW of it local community.
